Ben Griffin played just once before Sunday singles during the Ryder Cup, but his caddie only had positive things to say about Keegan Bradley’s decision to keep him out of both Saturday sessions.
Griffin and Bryson DeChambeau fell short to Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm in the Friday morning foursomes. After the loss, Bradley decided to bench Griffin until Sunday singles when he would go on to defeat Rasmus Hojgaard.
Bradley decided to keep Collin Morikawa and Harris English in the Saturday morning foursomes even though the duo also lost on Friday morning to Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.
Even though Griffin was benched after the loss, his caddie, Alex Ritthamel told the Quiet Please! Podcast that he wasn’t disappointed in Bradley’s decision.
“He was awesome. He was so great. It was just about the team. There was no players, caddies. Everybody, we are a team. And he was super inspirational,” he said.
“He will tell you he’s a big video guy. He made a lot of videos for us. He was open. Even prior to the week when we had meetings, you’re getting him tearing up,” said Ritthamel.
Ben Griffin was benched on Saturday of the Ryder Cup 2025
Griffin has two career wins and 11 top ten finishes on the PGA Tour. He also made his Ryder Cup debut at Bethpage Black in New York alongside J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, and Cameron Young.
“He was awesome. He did a great job when it came to the team side of it and making sure that everyone was feeling good and ready to go,” said Ritthamel.
Griffin however, didn’t find out that he wouldn’t be playing on Saturday until he arrived at the course that morning.
“It was tough. We were told leading into the event that, as of now, we’re going to play Friday, Saturday afternoons and then play Sunday. Ben didn’t play bad on Friday, I wouldn’t say he played great. And it was tough because we were at the golf course when we found out.”
With the constant support from fans walking by as Griffin was on the practice green, him being benched only got tougher.
Ben Griffin’s fans were cheering him on but were unaware he wasn’t playing
“We didn’t know until three hours-ish before tee off that we weren’t playing. So I think it actually got tougher as the day went on, not because of the score but we went out to practice, to warm-up, and nobody fan-wise knew,” Ritthamel continued.
“So he’s on the green hitting putts and it was every 30 seconds, people were going by going, ‘come on Benny, we need you this afternoon, get the team going’. It was non-stop. He’s just walking by, ‘I wish, I wish, I wish’. It was tough,” said Ritthamel
