Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club proudly welcomed its new Club Captain, Mr. Hanief Sallie, with the traditional Captain’s Season Opener held on Saturday, 4th October. The event served as both a celebration and an opportunity for members to meet and greet their new Captain.

A full field of golfers took to the course, competing for a host of fantastic prizes generously provided by Captain Hanief. Adding a personal touch to the day, Hanief played a hole with each group, offering players the option to use his score if it bettered their own — a fun twist that also added a touch of pressure for the Captain himself!

In the main competition, young Dehan Ungerer delivered a superb performance to claim victory with an impressive 37 Stableford points. His round featured four net birdies and a net eagle, earning him top honours and a well-deserved win.

Mohammad Mirza finished a close runner-up, also on 37 points but losing out on countback, while Josh Vardy secured third place with 36 points.

In the divisional categories, Amiya Ranjan emerged as the Division A winner with 32 points, while Yu Wei Dong took top spot in Division B with 36 points. The Gross Champion title went to Adam Smith, who posted a solid 35 points, with Sami Butt finishing runner-up on 32 points.

The day also featured several on-course challenges, with all prizes sponsored by the new Captain, creating an enjoyable and rewarding atmosphere for all participants.

During the evening prize presentation, warm thanks and best wishes were extended to Captain Hanief as he embarks on an exciting year ahead. He also introduced his Vice Captain for the 2026/2027 season, Mr. Amiya Ranjan, who was met with enthusiastic applause from members and guests. The Club also extended its sincere appreciation to outgoing Captain Mr. Shaheen Butt for his dedication and contributions over the past season.
