EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – Playing in a field loaded with ranked teams, the University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team took 11th place at the Hamptons Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event was hosted by Loyola Maryland and concluded Tuesday on the par-72 course at the Maidstone Club.

Penn shot 44-over-par 908 across the three rounds, with the best team score coming in the second round when the Quakers shot 289 (+1) as a team. No. 21 Georgia was the team champion, finishing the tournament at 7-under-par 847 which left the Bulldogs three strokes ahead of No. 25 Wake Forest (860, -4) and eight ahead of No. 3 Ole Miss (865, +1). The field also featured No. 15 Florida State as well as Princeton (876, +12), Yale (882, +18) and Harvard (886, +22) from the Ivy League.
Freshman Kayden Wang was Penn’s low scorer on the week; he shot a 3-under-par 69 in Monday’s second round on the way to a 6-over-par 222 for the tournament. That left him tied for 29th in a field of 65 golfers. Junior Hayden Adams also went under par on Monday afternoon, shooting 2-under-par 70, and finished t-40th at 226 (+10).
Junior Max Fonseca (232, +16) and freshman Arjun Caprihan (233, +17) were right there with each other scorewise, while sophomore Ryan Chang scored for Penn in the second round with a 73 and ended the event at 242 (+26). Senior Owen Hayes and sophomore Wesley Hu played in the tournament as individuals.
Georgia’s Carter Loflin was the individual champion; he carded 66-74-71 on the way to a 5-under-par 211. That left him two strokes ahead of four other golfers.

Penn is off until its final event of the fall on Thursday, Oct. 30, when the Quakers look to defend their team title at the Big 5 Championship. This year’s event will run at the Union League Liberty Hill in Lafayette Hill, Pa.
