While the U.S. came up short at the 2025 Ryder Cup, held at Bethpage State Park, the biennial international golf competition helped supplement 77,822 meals by donating surplus food to Island Harvest Food Bank.

In all, more than 93,000 pounds of fresh and frozen food, including beef, chicken, fruits, vegetables, and baked goods such as cookies, were collected as the competition came to a close on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The donations were facilitated through Sysco in partnership with the Patina Restaurant Group, a division of Delaware North, the food service provider at the Ryder Cup. Truckloads of the donated food were delivered to Island Harvest Food Bank on Monday, Sept. 29 and continued through Thursday, Oct. 2 at the food bank’s Melville distribution center.

The surplus food will be sorted and sent to local food pantries, soup kitchens, and other feeding programs supplied by Island Harvest to help more than 240,000 Long Islanders, including nearly 45,000 children, who are identified as food insecure.
