The Maxfli Tour X golf ball has won on the PGA TOUR… and will play in the 2025 Ryder Cup, so I have to test it for myself and see just how will it performs and compares to the Titleist ProV1

Max Fly’s back, baby. They’ve been back, but now this golf ball has won on the PGA Tour. It’s about to go play in the RDER Cup. An in-house DTC golf ball by Dicks Golf Galaxy Max Fly. Ben Griffin’s using it. Lexi Thompson’s using it. It’s performed well on the PJ Tour. Obviously, it’s performed well in the My Golf Spy Ball test, but I got to test it. I want to see if this budget DTC golf ball can perform as well as what we hear it does. And yeah, you know, we got to compare with the Pro B1 and see how it stacks up against the number one ball in golf. So, let’s get into it. So, the Maxfly Tour X, one of three Tour offering balls from Maxfly. You have the Tour S, the Tour, and the Tour X. This is the only fourpiece construction. It’s the most expensive of the three Tour balls. come in at $40 a dozen, but if you buy two, it’s $35 a dozen. And if you buy four, it’s $30 a dozen. And you can only get it at Dicks or Golf Galaxy or their websites. Compare it to the the most premium golf balls in the game, the Pro B1’s, the TP5s, the Chrome Tours, those are $55 a dozen. This is $25 cheaper a dozen, and it’s being played on the PGA Tour, and it’s won on the PGA Tour. That’s worth taking note. And I mean, you might maybe you’re saying, “Well, Andrew, well, Ben Griffin’s just paid to use the golf ball.” Yeah, obviously pretty much every tour player on the PGA Tour is paid to some extent to use the golf ball they use. Whether it’s just a contract and they’re paid to use the ball or they’re a free agent, they’re rewarded financially if they win with the golf ball they choose to use or there’s bonuses for money list majors, world ranking points. In some way, shape, or form, every PJ Tour player is paid to use the golf ball they use. So, let’s just rule that out. Yeah, I’m sure Dick’s Golf Galaxy reached out to a lot of players and maybe threw some good money at a lot of players to get them to play the ball and it never really clicked, but Ben Griffin obviously he tested this golf ball and he deemed it worthy enough and the pay was probably helpful, too. But he’s won with it. He’s had an incredible year with it. It’s not just, oh, he’s paid to use a golf ball like Bubba Watson was paid to use Volvix and played worse. He’s being paid to use a golf ball, but he’s playing phenomenal golf with that golf ball. That alone is why I wanted to test this golf ball. There’s other great DTC balls out there, but you don’t see them on the PGA Tour. And sure, there’s no marketing push behind those, but there’s not much marketing push behind this other than those contracts to Ben, Lexi, and Sean Foley. Because if you’re like me, I’m 41 years old. in the 90s, the late 90s, prior to the ProB1, like the Titleless Professional was a popular golf ball, but the Maxfly Revolution was the ball that was a golf ball that so many junior golfers, college golfers wanted to play, and professional golfers played the Maxfly Revolution. Maxfly has always had a pedigree of making good golf balls. Now that they’re just owned by a different company, is that pedigree still going to be attached to that name? It’s only one way to find out, and that’s test it. So, let’s look at the number. So, when I’m testing a golf ball, it all comes down to club head speed. Like, all the robotic testing is set the robot to swing at the same speed. I’m a human being. I’m not going to swing at the same speed every time. I’m trying to get an average with both of these balls, the same club head speed, and well struck. If I thin it or if I catch it with a way open face or pull it, but the club head speed was the same, that’s not a counter. So, I have 12 counters with the sand wedge, 85 miles of club head speed. With the Maxfly, it took me 18 shots to get it. With the Titalist, it took me 16 shots to get it. And I’m telling you this cuz I want to talk about ball durability when all this testing was said and done. But if we look at the numbers headto head, a little bit more balls speed in the Max Fly, which translates to basically a yard more in the air, a little bit more spin. Apex is a foot higher in the air. Pretty similar, but I would definitely give the edge in this instance to the Max Fly. It just flew a little bit further. And with the wedge, you’re not really concerned about distance. you’re concerned about hitting a distance. So, if we look at kind of more of the the north south dispersion with the Max Fly, it’s pretty tight. Two yards either way, north south dispersion, what more do you want with a sand wedge? Just trying to hit a smooth solid sand wedge. If it’s not going more than two yards or less, those are all makeable putts. Those are all greens in regulation. Looking at the Titalist, roughly the same thing. We see a 111.7, but we see a little bit more variance in the spin with the Titus. spin see more spin below 10,000 RPM whereas with the MaxFly not a single shot was below 10,000 RPM in terms of flight pretty indistinguishable pretty tight the proby one is a little tighter but there’s just an outlier with a shorter shot pretty similar little more ball speed but that’s what I read in my golf spy testing is that the Max by TourX definitely delivers the ball speed so let’s see what that looks like in the 7ir so with the 7ir Iron I was getting 10 counters at 94 mph per hour club head speed. The rolls reversed. It took me 16 to get it with the Max Fly, 18 to get it with the Titalist. The Maxfly flew yard and a half more, basically almost two yards more because of more ball speed. The spin is great on both of them. The Apex Max fly is definitely higher. So, in the middle of the bag, a little bit more height with a wee bit more distance, but not a lack of spin. That’s it’s pretty optimal. We break it down. We look at the, you know, the north south discrepancy. 178 average with the max fly. We go anywhere from 175 12 to 181. Again, 2 and 1/2, three yards north south on well struck shots. I didn’t count a pole or a floater. Like those happen on the golf course, but they really skew data. The north south discrepancy with the prob at 176.6 as low as 173 as high as 170. So about the same two-ish yards. So that’s good. It’s its tightness is just as good as the Prov, but in terms of like flight characteristics, it’s a little bit faster, spins a wee bit more to go with that more speed, flies a little bit higher. And maybe that higher flight is due in large part to it. It does launch a little bit more, but that’s something that’s good for a lot of golfers at higher speeds. A little bit more launch in the middle top of the bag with the irons, just more optimal. More distance, more height, more spin. That’s a win. So again, I’m impressed. So rolling in a driver. This was 10 counters at roughly 116 and a half club head speed. I did the max fly first. It took me about 20ish shots. 22 shots. It took 32 with the title. I was getting tired, a little sloppy. So there was some bad swings that just weren’t counting cuz I want to get the cleanest data for you. If we look at the data though, the more ball speed that we’ve been seeing, which translates to more distance, but not due to a lack of spin. The spin is really good and it’s a little bit lower. That’s strong. A little bit lower launch for me. That’s really, really good. As a caveat, the Prob is definitely I would probably play the X just because of what it does off driver. For me, it spins a little too much, launches a little too high compared to the X. throughout the rest of the bag. They’re pretty indistinguishable. But what the MaxFly has done in all of this testing has really, really impressed me. We look at the shot pattern. I told you it’s later in the day, later in the testing. It gets a little more vary with both of them, but the flight is strong. It’s fast. Obviously, driver north south we’re not too concerned about. Like driver, we just want to hit it far. We want to see what it can do. And if I pulled it, the spin didn’t drop off ridiculously. And if I came up and out of it, this the Prov definitely would spin more on that wipey right miss. This would not spin as much on the wipey miss. That’s really encouraging for me for what my miss is. Something that spins a little less, balloons a little less. That keeps it a little closer to out of the trees and maybe just the rough line. And I’ve got no dog in this fight. I just wanted to see how these golf balls performed on the same day. And the Maxfly outperformed the Proby 100%. Durability, I hit 66 shots with the Titus and I hit 56 shots with the Maxfly. They both are in decent shape. They’re both beat up like they’re being hit a lot into an impact screen, but there’s just more like scuffs on the Maxfly. It’s hard to show on camera. Definitely would give the durability edge to the Probe, but the performance edge definitely goes to the Max Fly. So, numbers wise, on paper, this golf ball could be really, really good for me. So, I have no other choice but to go play some golf with it. So, let’s go to the golf course. [Music] Ah, straight off the toe. Missed the second green of the day. Pretty straightforward pitch to see how this thing can react off the face and spin. Okay, it came off pretty fast. It still spun, but I just hit it too hard. Just didn’t hit it. Yeah, it feels the way a tour ball should feel off a putter. Yeah, like I love how it feels flighting it. It feels really good controlling the distance with it. So, nine holes with the Maxfly TRX. I’m impressed. One thing that’s really standing out is how well or how easy it is to flight it with the irons. It’s so controllable with the irons. I’ve hit some really nice flighted shots. Yeah, I really like how it flights. I’m not hitting it terribly well. The few times I’ve had to hit driver, I haven’t hit a good drive with this. Hitting less than less than driver off the tea. I like it on the green feels really really good. I like how it feels off the putter face. Around the greens, I haven’t hit my best chips. The two three times I’ve missed a green or around par five green. So scoring, I’m not scoring as well as I should be today, but I’m not I mean that’s golf. But in terms of ball performance has nothing to do with the ball performance. It’s completely my performance. I’m happy with I’m really really happy with what it does with the flight control. It’s one of the better golf balls I’ve ever hit in terms of controlling the flight trajectory spin. I’ve been pin high a lot just around the greens. My my technique’s not there. So, it’s not doing what I want it to be doing around the greens. But this golf ball for $30 a dozen if you buy four of them, it’s an incredible tour players ball. And it’s no surprise that there’s a tour player using this ball and winning with this ball. So, let me know down in those comments below. Do you use the Max 5 ball? Have you tested any of them, the Tour series, the other ones that Dick sells? Sound off in those comments and we’ll see you in the next video. You piss.

  1. I switched to the tour X. Great ball. Gained 18 yards from Srixon divide ball I played. The maxfli is straighter and longer. Gained 10mph in ball speed. Still 11k spin with my SW

  2. I’ve played the last 2 generation Maxfli Tour balls and prior played the Titliest ProV1x left dash. The Maxfli is a very good option I did not lose any performance

  3. I will never play it. I have been on a mission to not buy or play any equipment from the big 5, or golf galaxy/dicks. That golf galaxy playability guarantee is shit. Complete lie. I hate them.

  4. The Maxfli Tour is great. The one flaw with your test is you are comparing the wrong models. The Pro V1x is the comparable option to the Maxfli Tour X, and the pro V1 is comparable to the standard Maxfli Tour.

  5. I tend to scuff the crap out of my pro vs and Vice Pro Plus balls, I can't imagine how bad I would scuff the Maxfi Tour X. BUUUUTT that price thoooo!

  6. i used to play maxfli 25 years ago in highschool and precept mc ladies i dont know if you guys played back in the day but they were soo soft and ballooned less then the ballata titleists

  7. Curious why you compared the Tour X to the regular ProV1. Wouldn't the regular Tour be the more 1 to 1 comparison to the original ProV1, or compare the Tour X to the ProV1X?

  8. In my second full season of playing seriously and I play mainly in public metro park courses with woods or tall grass to either side of the fairway. I wanted a consistent ball but probably still loose 4-6 per 18. My friend works at golf galaxy and put me on to the tour X at the beginning of the year and I’ve enjoyed it. My local store just had a buy 3 get one so I stocked up. Again, I doubt I have the skill to really even have a preference at this point but the value is there, and I do notice what feels like more green-side spin. I’m getting great flight out of the ball but again I am at that stage where I am progressing in large jumps at a time. I also like the triple track option for putting, although this isn’t exclusive to the maxfli ball.

  9. I switched to Maxfli ball at the beginning of the summer and as of now distance control very consistent. I don’t see myself using another ball. You could try all three series make. Mix and match the four pack at the cash register will give you the same discount. For example, tour s one box tour another box to X white one box X yellow one box you will get the four box discount tour and tour x was best for my game.

  10. I play the prov1 for one reason. The QC and R&D is industry leading. So if I get a dz at Dicks in California or a dz at PGA SS in Florida, those balls are gonna have the tightest tolerances. Plus it’s the total package. The absolute longest? No. The best spinning? No. But for every single category, I just prefer it.

  11. For higher handicaps the Maxfli Straightfli is incredible. I regularly find it on sale with local discounts for $48 for 48!

  12. I have been playing the Maxfli Tour X for a couple of years and absolutely love the ball. I have more distance on my drives than the other premium balls and the higher trajectory is great for me as I get older and swing slower. I am thrilled Maxfli is back since I used to play the HT and Revolution balls in my teens and 20s. The balls started to go downhill after the revolution so stopped playing them for a long time.

  13. I've been playing the 2021 Tour X since it came out. Absolutely love the ball. Was able to pick up 6 dozen at $20ea this spring, so I'll be playing them a while before playing the newer versions.

  14. The Wilson Staff Tour X had almost identical results as the Maxfli Tour X. I heard they are from the same factory? They performed really well in the MyGolfSpy review. I'm trying the Staff and Maxfli this year.

  15. I would’ve loved to have gotten a short game part to this because if I can’t hit a low spinner I’m not playing the ball and know the proV1X spins around the greens

  16. Big fan of the Tour S , for reference I’m a scratch golfer with about 115-118 driver swing and it’s a very straight ball

  17. I found a max fly tour X. Played with it today to see what the fuss is about. All I can say is WOW 😮 it’s the best ball I’ve ever used.

  18. Dam, I am a Callaway guy through and through, and I have been keeping my eye on these Maxfli. After seeing the results from other testers and you, it's making me want to try it out for next golf season.

  19. It’s a really really good ball. You don’t have a viewer that could tell the difference between the maxfli and pro-v or srixon x-Star or Callaway tour soft

  20. Played the Maxfli Tour S for a year. Switched to the Tour X 6 months ago and it is my go to ball. The track lines on the new balls is an added benefit which I use more off the tee than on the green.

  21. I read online that the same company that makes vice balls makes Maxfli. Gonna give them a shot this weekend. I hope I can find a sleeve somewhere

  22. I’ve been playing the MaxFli X for two seasons and it’s my go to ball. I’m a mid handicapper and it’s as good if not better than the other major brands.

  23. I play the Maxfli Tour X in yellow, it does scuff up easier than the few pro v's I have played in yellow, but the lower cost is worth it and I like the feel, distance and spin. I also like Chrome Tour X in yellow, also scuffs more than pro v in yellow but is a lot more expensive than the Maxfli Tour X, The value proposition of the Maxfli Tour balls make it a winner for me.

  24. 68 yo, 100 mph swing speed, 6.1 handicap, Qi10 driver, Takomo 201 irons. Have tried all of the balls out there and NOTHING feels as good, or performs as well as the Tour-X for me. Switched a couple of months ago and haven’t looked back.
