HOUSTON — Senior Lukas Boandl is tied for second-place and the Rice Men’s Golf team is tied for fourth after one round of the Trinity Forest Invitational.
The Owls are tied with Furman and Houston at -6, three strokes behind leaders Baylor and USC.
Boandl sits at -6 after firing a 66, tied with Baylor’s Jonas Appel and two strokes behind individual leader Clark Akers of Furman. After a bogey on the fourth hole, he followed with two straight birdies to make the turn at -1. He then birdied five of the first seven holes on the back nine before closing with a pair of pars.
The 66 is his fourth round of par or better this year, and the 18th of his career, tying Raghav Chugh for the most in school history. It’s also his team leading ninth round of par or better this year, and the 47th of his career.
Redshirt junior Henry Daly is tied for 18th-place at -1 after carding a 71. It is his eighth round of par or better this year and the 15th of his career.
Junior Reggie Zhu shot an even par 72 to sit in a tie for 28th-par. It’s his fifth round of par or better this year and the 24th of his career.
Sophomore Daniel Zou is tied for 42nd-place after carding a 73. Sophomore William Johnson, playing as an individual, carded a 77 to sit a 75th-place tie, and freshman Raines Watson is tied for 78th-place after shooting a 78.
