ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Did you watch the Ryder Cup this weekend at Bethpage Black Golf Course in Long Island? It was only the fifth time that Team Europe has won on U.S. soil since 1979. The second time was at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, during the 1995 Ryder Cup.
During the Ryder Cup, the 12 best players from Europe take on the 12 best from the U.S. Team in a three-day tournament. The U.S. team at Oak Hill included golf legends like Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples, with Lanny Wadkins as the captain.
Team Europe had its own legends, including Sir Nick Faldo and Ian Woosnam, with Bernard Gallacher as the captain. Europe ended up winning 141/2 to Team USA’s 131/2 that year. See News10NBC coverage of the Ryder Cup in this story.
Oak Hill has hosted other major tournaments, including the 2023 PGA Championship. In May 2035, Oak Hill will once again host the PGA Championship.
