Pretty wild. A lot of folks don’t understand just how bad a single digit guy can still manage to play.

Today I posted a 96 (hasn’t hit the card yet). The handicap will still remain a 9.4.

I’m an 8 and haven’t broke 80 this year, sucks bro

  2. Golf-ball-dimple

Interesting. I’m a bit better HC than you and no where near as fluctuating. Scores are almost always within 5 strokes.

  3. Jesus

I’m a 12 and only topped 90 once in the last year. With about 55 rounds since January.

Where at in WA? I’m in the Tacoma area

When you play a clean scorecard and don’t take mulligans, don’t move balls out of divots and unclean lies, putt everything etc… your score jumps around a lot more than those who do those types of things, which in my experience is most casual players. I switched to not taking any mulligans this year and I noticed it even as a 16HC.

Although I still basically treat all out of bounds/lost ball as red stakes instead of doing stroke + distance. I just take it on a line instead of playing lateral hazard rules. It seems like a decent enough punishment. Also I will take most putts I am given if it’s inside a putter length and not for a par or better.

It’s my own version of a clean scorecard I guess but I’ve gone from an 82 to a 97 just in my last 3 rounds. It doesn’t take much!

I’m an 8.6 and this is so accurate. Every year my goal is to not shoot in the 90s. I usually make it like 4-5 rounds. I’ll shoot a random 77 twice a year though. Glimmers of hope I call them.

  6. FatFaceFaster

    I’m a 10 and I’ve never shot anywhere in the universe of a 102.

    Were you playing blindfolded?

  7. Resident-Rooster2916

lol, I shot a 87 with two doubles and a triple on Wednesday and my handicap went down from 7.4-7.3. The slope rating of the course makes a huge difference on your net score.

  8. No_Mistake_5501

This is a much higher variance than most 9.4s. You shouldn’t be shooting high 90s or low 100s virtually ever if you’re a single digit cap. That says something about your fundamentals that your game can break down to that extent.

  9. Swap the 102 and 96 for a 74 and a 76, boom now you’re a 6

  10. May I ask what happened on the 102 game? That must’ve felt like the wheels, propeller, wings, everything came flying off

Thanks for posting. Cool to check out indeed.

As about a 14, shy of the 2 rounds in the 90s & the 102, those are my numbers.

However, you gotta be playing harder slopes / tees than my 126-132 courses from the whites.

And as a side note, I can tell you’re playing by the rules, and as you might guess I take a mulligan per side. I’ll also drop & hit 3 anywhere anytime.

Tldr; in reality you’re on an entirely different level than me.

After not playing for about 10 years I’ve picked the game up last summer – this is my second season playing to try to get better. It’s actually pretty great to see what a single digit handicap card looks like.

First season keeping a handicap and I started at around 18. Down to an 11 now – the goal for the season was to crack 80 once. Haven’t got there yet, but been tragically close with two 80 finishes.

Glad to see I’m not drastically far off from single digits.

  13. I_cant_hear_you_27

How many strokes are you losing to penalty and/or duffs per round on all the rounds over 95? Are you just repeatedly beating balls into the woods?

  14. lowsparkco

No offense, but you’re a lot more inconsistent than most of the 8-12 index guys I’ve played with.

I don’t play much anymore, but the best handicap I ever carried was a 4. The last couple years I played I was usually around a 7. I occassionally went up to a 9 or 10. It would have been highly unusual for me to card a 90 or worse.

Do you think it’s psychological? Do you give up on some rounds after a couple bad holes?

  15. altctrldel86

What kind of slope ratings are you playing? Curious about the variety.

I find when I play tight long course and my game is marginally off I can have a really bad day.

  16. Warm-Ice12

Very similar cap here. Most frustrating week of my life I shot 78 and then followed it up with a 94 2 days later.

  17. So interesting to me – I’m an 11-12 and my scores pretty much are always between 85 and 95. I’d say 75% of the time I play, I shoot between 88 and 92. I had a 93 over the weekend and an 86 today.

Shooting 77 and 96 in the same month is a wild ride man

  18. KTFlaSh96

Bro is only playing the tips at Torrey or some thing lol

  19. Danjiks88

Interesting. I’m a 30 hcp but my variance is not that high. I usually shoot on a regular basis between 101-108 with some odd rounds in the teens, but rarely above 114

  20. 00sucker00

This looks like my GHIN. I play the back tees at the courses I play with slopes ranging between 135 to 142, and an 84 doesn’t move the needle either way for my 6 hdcp. I’ll either shoot sub 40 on one side, and shit the bed in the other side, or post a 41-42, or something along those lines.

  21. Sometimes_Stutters

I’ve golfed my whole life. Decent stick too. Always been too cheap to pay for a USGA handicap, and frankly never cared to do it. I always said I was about a 10 handicap.

Finally had to get a USGA handicap for a tournament my buddy wanted to play and it turns out in like a 4 handicap. Been sandbagging accidentally for over a decade lol.

  22. The19thHole7

I’m more surprised your 20 rounds only took 3 months! My 20 rounds goes back to feb 2024… so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised that I still get anywhere near my handicap with how little I’ve been playing.

  23. That 102 makes me feel a lot better.

    25 hcp that shot 93, 86, 103, 89, 108

  24. Extension-Seat-7640

3.5 index, in last 20 rounds low of 71 and high of 85 with average being 79

  25. Evenspace-

I always feel like worse for my younger self because I thought these high scores would invalidate my low ones, but man they make you appreciate the low ones so much more.

  26. Razor488

I’m an 8.6 index but no rounds in the 90’s. All 80’s with a couple 70’s
