The 2025 RDER Cup is set to ignite a fierce battle between the US and Europe with the opening round of Forsomes kicking off on Friday morning at Beth Page Black. This is the moment that will shape the entire tournament as the first session sets the tone for the rest of the competition. But here’s where it gets controversial. Despite Europe’s dominance in this format, the US has a chance to turn the tide with bold pairings and star power. At the forefront of the American team is Bryson Dshambo, the reigning world number one paired with Justin Thomas. Their debut in the Forsomes format was Rocky. Dshambo went 0 and2 in his career. Both losses coming in 2018, but the US captain Keegan Bradley sees potential in their chemistry. Bryson has been an incredible teammate in the locker room, Bradley said, and we really wanted him to lead our team out with Justin in the first match. Meanwhile, Europe’s John Rahm and Tier Hatton have never lost in two Forsomes matches together, giving them a psychological edge. The first session features four matches starting at 7:10 a.m. Eastern time, followed by four fourball matches in the afternoon. Saturday’s schedule mirrors Friday’s with Sunday reserved for high stakes singles matches. Historically, Europe has been seven points better in forsomes than the home side. But the US has won this format in nine straight editions since 1979 when the five session format began. The leading team after the first session has been 951 in that period, making this opener a critical test of strategy. New partnerships are also shaping the matchups. Scotty Sheffller and Russell Henley who went 1-1 in forsomes last year face Levig Aubberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. Victor Havland and Bob McIntyre Europe will tackle Xander Schoffley and Patrick Kentlay. A veteran US duo with a 63 record in cup forsomes. In the third match, Colin Morala and Harris English take on Rory Mroy and Tommy Fleetwood, who dominated in Rome two years ago with a 2- record. The US rookies on the bench include JJ Spawn, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, and Sam Burns. While Europe’s Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Septraka, and Rasmus Hoygard bring experience. Players evolve and their profiles change, said European captain Luke Donald. We have so many options, but we know the US will be strong in forsomes. This is what we feel is our best. What do you think? Will Europe’s history repeat, or will the US break the pattern? Share your thoughts in the comments because this is the part most people miss. The real battle starts the moment the ball is struck.
