Paige Spiranac Criticizes Fan Behavior at the Ryder Cup

Hollywood golf influencer Paige Spiranac expressed her displeasure with fan behavior during the Ryder Cup and called for changes.

During the tournament, players from the European team, including Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, witnessed numerous instances of inappropriate crowd behavior.

Nonetheless, this did not prevent them from showcasing their skills – the team won on American soil for the first Time since 2012.

Lowry made the decisive shot that secured the trophy for Europe and stopped the USA’s attempts to fight back on Sunday.

Spiranac, 32, noted that she was not surprised by such incidents among fans and shared her thoughts on social media. She called for changes in fan behavior across all sports and mentioned a “disgusting” incident at a soccer game she attended:

“I am not surprised that fan behavior at the Ryder Cup is this way, because it has become the norm at most sporting events, and I think this needs to change in all sports.”

“I was at a soccer game recently, and the man in front of me was terribly drunk, shouting the most disgusting words at the players and fans of the opposing team and spilling his drink everywhere, wanting to fight with people.”

“This ruined the experience for me and everyone around me completely.”

“This behavior is learned. I’m not saying you should sit quietly. You can have passion, make jokes, have fun at the event or game, but there is a line, and it is often crossed.”

Her comments resonated with her millions of followers on X, who supported her views.

Additionally, Spiranac expressed her discontent with the “converter” rule at the Ryder Cup, which allowed each team to receive half a point after Viktor Hovland was sidelined due to a neck injury. Before the tournament, she defended US star Bryson DeChambeau, who was labeled a “nightmare for the captain.”

Spiranac’s observations highlight the need for changes in the culture of sporting events, where fan behavior can significantly affect the atmosphere. Her statements draw attention to the necessity of creating a safer and more inviting space for all participants. This issue is particularly relevant, especially in the context of major tournaments where fan emotions can get out of control.
