Local coverage you can count on continues with Glenn Marini’s sports report. Sports coverage you can count on. When it comes to the Cal girls golf, there’s historically been a lot of winning in Waterloo. Over the weekend, DAB adding to its strong history. The Barons bringing home their first regional title since 2009, edging second place Northridge by three strokes with Carol coming in third. With the Barons bracing for the state finals, we’re proud to present to Calg Girls Golf as your Optimum Performance Sports team of the week. Hi, I’m Dr. Bergoff, a sports medicine physicians with Optimum Performance Sports, and I just wanted to wish a very special congratulations to this week’s team of the week. Well done, guys. Youth is definitely being served on this DAW girls golf team. They only graduated one senior from last year. They got three juniors, two sophomores on this varsity lineup. And you know what? This team is heading back to state for a second year in a row. We’ve got James Fistlar, the head coach of this DAW girls golf team. Coach, what was working so well for this DAW team over the weekend over at Noble Hawk? Uh putting um you know, we saw it in our practice round that we’re putting really good and then uh we ended up making 10 birdies throughout that event. Uh so it’s just it was putting so that helped us get us to the finish line. I’ve seen a lot of maturity in this team, you know, from the time they were freshman till now. um and their growth, the growth of their games and how more consistent they’re getting. Um you know, and making like I said, you know, their putting has improved greatly over the last two years. So, we’ve got all the ladies lining up practicing their short game, but instead of using their putter, they’re going to be using a sevenwood as picked out by coach Fler. So, whoever can putt their ball closest to the pin or if they could sink it with a sevenwood, it’s going to be our winner. So, we got Ellington trying to provide a little spark in the early going. Pun fully intended. Okay. All right. All right. My putt’s looking better. Okay. Here’s Savannah. Okay. Oh, thank you. O. Almost. All right. Ellie’s our winner. We knew that we were ready and like last year obviously we lost by one stroke and I knew that like we were just ready to win and pull it off that we’ve been practicing so hard. Practice round went practice round went great and everything was just like put together. I’ve been focusing on my mental attitude. So when I’m uh thinking positively I just play better. Yeah, I think we have a lot of depth in and on any given day any person can be our number one scorer. We all have each other’s backs and if um someone doesn’t have a good day or someone has a great day, we’re always there to pick them up afterward and move on. Congrats to the Calg Girls Golf. They’re your OPS team of the week. [Music]
