Team Europe splashed out a staggering £230,000 on champagne and spirits to celebrate their Ryder Cup victory in New York. The team, along with their support staff and families, were rightly revelling in their success on Sunday night.

The victorious golfers kicked off the festivities by spraying champagne at Bethpage Black after defeating the U.S. team. As the evening progressed, they seemingly continued to indulge, with footage showing several players clutching drinks as they sang along to tunes blaring from the bus speakers on their return journey from the golf course.

Shane Lowry hinted at the extent of the celebrations when he admitted on social media: “I might have a hangover.” That candid confession provided a glimpse into how the night unfolded.

According to The Sun, they spent an eye-watering £116,000 on 120 bottles of Moët and Chandon Brut Imperial champagne, each priced at £967. An additional £74,000 was reportedly splashed on 60 bottles each of Moët MCIII and Moët Rose Champagne.

The spending spree seemingly did not stop there, with a further £18,000 reputedly going towards Belvedere Vodka, and over £22,000 on ten bottles of limited-edition Hennessy 250th Anniversary cognac. The players also had the option of indulging in a special Hennessy Richard Lunar New Year 2025 cognac, which retails for just under £15,000.

During their post-match press conference, the players debated who would be the leader in strokes gained off the course. Tyrrell Hatton was quick to name “Sepp [Straka],” declaring that “Sepp will stay undefeated.”

The Austrian then countered: “I don’t know, in Rome I was leaving for the airport and I still saw Tyrrell.” Lowry then clarified: “People will think it’s me, but I’ll be gone early.”Hatton then reiterated: “Sepp, hands down.” Luke Donald chimed in, “We’ll have some fun.” By this point, Rory McIlroy was pointing towards Justin Rose as Lowry shouted, “Rosey, Rosey.”

McIlroy then added, “Dark horse in the back right!”. Reacting to this, Rose climbed from his seat and looked behind himself with a surprised expression, prompting a round of laughter. After sitting back down, the Ryder Cup veteran admitted: “I got a bit scared of myself after 2018.”

Bob MacIntyre spoke about the celebrations that followed. “It was absolutely brilliant, great celebrations, great party, just an incredible week,” he told the BBC. “Just the same as Rome, an unbelievable bus journey and then it rolled into the team room, just an incredible night; memories for a lifetime.”

Luke Donald also told the BBC: “It was great, we had a fun bus ride back, I’m sure you’ve seen some of the videos, like we did in Rome. Those 30 minutes on that bus, you’ll always remember.

“Then we got to the team room, we all quickly got showered and, again, my wife had made some t-shirts for us, just in case we won, and everyone was wearing those. We had a little speech right at the beginning, and then we just celebrated with those closest to us, which is what you always want to do.”
