President Donald Trump has responded after Team Europe called him out in a video following their dramatic victory over Team USA in the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Members of the European squad — including Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm — hoisted the Ryder Cup trophy in the air and sang a song aimed at the American Commander-in-Chief on Sunday, September 29.

“Are you watching? Are you watching? Are you watching? Are you watching, Donald Trump? Are you watching Donald Trump?”  the team sang in celebration.

Trump, 79, who attended the Ryder Cup at Farmingdale, New York’s Bethpage Black Golf Course on Friday, September 27, responded via his Truth Social social media app.

“Yes, I’m watching. Congratulations!” Trump wrote on Sunday.

Team Europe defeated Team USA, 15-13, despite a furious comeback attempt by the Americans on the final day of competition.

The video came after Trump got in touch with Team Europe’s McIlroy, 36, after their victory.

“We were having a moment together with the team, and Rory got a text from the president,” Team Europe captain, Luke Donald, told the BBC. “We read it out and thought [we’d have] a little bit of banter [with him].”

Donald, 47, added, “He seemed to take it in good spirits.”

Trump is a notoriously big golf fan, which has resulted in him routinely texting and calling players like McIlroy and Team USA’s Scottie Scheffler.

“He just loves the game of golf,” Scheffler, 29, said on Tuesday, September 23, of his relationship with Trump. “And he’s one of those guys when you’re around him, he does such a good job of feeding confidence into everybody around him.”

Scheffler added, “That was one of the things I noticed a lot with the little bit of time I spent with him, is he treats everybody the same and treats people with the utmost respect. Whether you’re the person serving us lunch or the caddie on the golf course or the guy who’s the president of the club that we’re at, he treats everybody like they’re the greatest person in the world.”

Team Europe’s victory came after a contentious weekend with the European players and rowdy golf fans in New York.

Fans heckled stars like McIlroy throughout the Ryder Cup, including a beer being thrown at his wife, Erica Stoll. The Irish golf superstar called it “a rough week for all of us.”

“Look, I don’t think we should ever accept that in golf,” McIlroy told reporters on Sunday. “I think golf should be held to a higher standard than what was seen out there this week. Golf has the ability to unite people. Golf teaches you very good life lessons. It teaches you etiquette.”

McIlroy added, “But at the same time, we shut them up by our performance and how we played, and we tried to. I chirped back a few times because it got to me a few times, but we tried to handle everything that came our way with class and poise, and for the most part, I felt like we did that.”
