Verdict
Ping i240s want to perform well for you.
They want to go high and they want to go far.
I promise, if you put a decent swing, you’ll get a decent or better result.
They look like hittable player irons and have the perfect clubhead profile for my eyes.
They look refined, but never intimidating.
They have a solid and slightly soft sound and feel over much of the clubface. Mishits never feel harsh.
They’re a good mix between pure player and player performance.

How we tested:
Range sessions – 3
Rounds of golf – 1
Launch Monitor – 1
7-Iron Launch Monitor Data
Notes on 7-iron Distances: Flushed shots got me in the 175 yard range. Misses put me in the mid 160s.
I stood on a couple and got mid 180s. (I wouldn’t do that on the course. That’s why Ping made a 6-iron too.)
My assessment – These clubs are long for their lofts.

Overview & Why Consider the Ping i240s
The Ping i240 irons nail a difficult balance: player iron looks with game-improvement forgiveness.
What Makes Them Different
Smart weight redistribution:
Lighter badge and insert save weight
Weight moves to perimeter for higher MOI
Lower CG = Ping’s highest-launching player iron
True cavity-back maintains clean looks
The Look
Shorter blade length than the i230s. Thin topline. Perfect proportions.
They frame the ball beautifully without intimidating you, even in long irons.
How They Perform
Launch: High with plenty of carry
Mishits: Still get airborne and hold their line. No harsh feedback or offline shots.
Feel: Solid and slightly soft on pure strikes. Ranks among the best I’ve tested.
Long Irons Work For You
Most player long irons are mui difficult for me to hit – so I don’t even try if I’m not testing.
The i240s aren’t. I didn’t knock down pins, but I got them airborne on a highish trajectory and in the general direction of my target.
Not something I can say often from a low handicap long iron.
Three Loft Options
Ping gives you real choices here. 7-iron loft comparison:
Power Spec (31.5°) – Jacked lofts for maximum distance. About 2.5° stronger than standard. Compete with player distance / game improvement iron yardages.
Standard (33°) – Traditional lofts – the set I tested. (My everyday 7-iron has 34° of loft.) Carries ~175 yards flushed. Best balance of distance and control.
Retro (35°) – Weaker lofts for trajectory control. 1° weaker than what I call standard.
Price Check
~$200 per club. Industry-standard pricing for premium player irons.
Bottom line: Low handicaps wanting high launch, ample forgiveness, and workability should give them a look.

Bag Appeal: (4.5) The head shape and profile does it for me. Clubheads aren’t elongated like the i230s. Look great behind the ball. Refined, but never intimidating.
Not the flashiest. Not the prettiest. But, attractive.
Sound/ Feel: (4) Great sound and feel. Up there with the best, but not the best. Solid and slightly soft. Never harsh on any of my mishits.
I’m used to a stone-like feel with Ping low handicap irons. Not so with the i240s. (or the i230s mentioned above)
Forgiveness: (5) Tons for a player iron. Some loss of distance on mishits, but my ball never squirted offline or did anything disastrous.
Distance: (4.5) This could easily be a 5. As mentioned earlier, the i240s I played have more traditional lofts – not jacked. You can get jacked lofts (Power Spec) or weaker lofts (Retro).
Flight / Launch: (5) They go high, which I prefer. You get no ballooning or loss of distance. I’ll bring down launch if I need to.
Wallet Damage: (4) ~$200/club. Which, I feel, must be required pricing for premium irons these days. (Because it’s near ubiquitous in the industry)

My Experience with i240s
Mini love affair.
I can’t get over how perfect the head shape and profile is to my eyes. Cosmetics are nice, but that head frames the ball sooo well.
Love it.
It looks player without being intimidating in the mid and long irons.
I took them to the range almost for the first testing and hit them solid.
That gave me a pleasing “click” on impact. Not harsh or hollow. Solid and kinda soft. As mentioned above, not the best, but not far from it.
They remind me of the i230s I tried back in 2022.
They launch high with a lot of carry and whatever shape you can carry off.
For me, slight pushes, pulls, and the occassional tiny draw, of which I’m a fan.
I got through the entire bag, even the dreaded (to me) long irons. I avoid them in my game.
But, I’m testing and have to hit them.
First thing I noticed, they want to go high. Which is not my experience with most long irons.
I didn’t hit many flush, but I did hit a few. Even my less-than-flush shots got up nicely and kept their line.
I consider long irons “area fire” weapons. I don’t practice with them enough to consider knocking down pins (or greens). I want to be in the general area I’m aiming.
The Ping i240s carry this out well.
I had the same experience through the bag on the course.
Hit them solid and they sing. High, far, straight.
My misses were largely pulls and pushes.
Still, these were around the green.
All-in-all, a veeery satisfying set to play. I would happily put these in play any day.
Who are i240 irons for?
Low handicaps that like looking down at traditional clubheads and don’t mind more distance, higher trajectory, and more forgiveness.
Plus, you get to choose from three lofts.
Low handicaps: (Oui) They’ve got it all, plus 3 loft options.
Mid handicaps: (Maybe) Gotta be close to a 10, in my opinion.
High handicaps: (No) You’ve got great options. Check here.
Potential Alternatives
Taylormade P770s – (Player performance irons) Specs are close to this set of i240s.
Another favorite of mine. Gorgeous. Similar performance to the i240s. I launched the i240s higher. Could be I’m in better form now and have been working on swing changes.
Callaway Apex Ai200s – (Player distance irons) Stronger lofts than the i240s I tested means more distance.
One of my favorites of 2025. Superb performance – launch, distance, forgiveness, workability, and great from the rough. Great sound and feel, too.
Taylormade P7CB irons – Similar specs and similar sound and feel. I got about a club more distance out of the i240s. These are great irons, but require better swings for better results.

High launch and carry without ballooning.
Plenty distance and extra forgiving.
As usual…
