HOUSTON – Abilene Christian men’s golf will compete in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic for the ninth time in program history at Westwood Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Wildcats look for another strong performance after recording their best showing at the event last season, tying for second amongst 11 teams at 25-under 839.
Teams will play two rounds on Monday at the par-72, 7,184-yard course before wrapping up Tuesday with the third and final round. The first round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
ACU joins a 14-team field featuring 10 programs from the state of Texas in host Rice, Houston, UT Arlington, Lamar, Incarnate Word, UT Rio Grande Valley, Houston Christian, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. Louisiana, Utah Valley, Louisiana-Monroe and Valparaiso round out the field. Individuals from LSU are also in the mix.
Prairie View A&M, Incarnate Word, UT Rio Grande Valley and Utah Valley each finished within the top three at their respective conference tournaments last season.
Grégoire Hoyeau will head ACU’s lineup, followed by fellow Frenchman Thomas Buisson, Jack Hollingsed, Colin Leonard, Tres Hill and Preston DeFriend.
The Wildcats were powered by a pair of top 10 outings at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic last year, as Preston Cooper tied for fourth place at 10-under 206 and Jaime Lewis, now a graduate assistant for the team, tied for sixth at 9-under 207. Previously, ACU hadn’t finished better than fourth at the event.
Lewis’ 7-under 65 opening round is tied for the lowest-scoring first round in tournament history, while Cooper’s 6-under 66 is tied for the lowest second round since the event was established in 2013.
ACU opened its 2025-26 campaign at the JT Poston Invitational in Waynesville, N.C. on Sept. 14-16, finishing in 10th place amongst 15 teams at 13-over 853. Buisson paced the Wildcats in a tie for 22nd place at 1-over 211, carding a 1-under 69 in each of the final two rounds.
Hoyeau and Hill each tied for 57th place at Waynesville Inn and Golf Club at 8-over 218, with Hill recording ACU’s lowest-scoring round with a 2-under 68 in the second. Hoyeau also tied for 57th at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic last season, sporting an 8-over 224.
Hollingsed tied for 45th at the JT Poston Invitational at 6-over 216 and returns to Westwood Golf Club following a tie for 54th last season. Competing as an individual, he scored 6-over 222 with a 4-under 68 opening round in the first team event of his college career.
DeFriend makes his season debut after a tie for 31st place in Houston in 2024, where he finished at even-par 216, including 5-under 139 through the first two rounds. Leonard tied for 65th in Waynesville, N.C. at 9-over 219, scoring an even-par 140 in the final two rounds.
