In a dramatic day of Ryder Cup golf on Saturday, in which Team Europe extended their lead to seven points, tension bubbled over on the 15th hole in the fourballs match up between Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood and Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler.
Tension had been building all afternoon as Europe strecthed their lead in the morning foursomes, which led to an onslaught of abuse from the US fans against Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry in particular.
Commentators and journalists on the ground said the abuse was horrific, while drink was reportedly thrown at McIlroy’s wife as well. The line was well and truly crossed by the fans on Saturday.

Tommy Fleetwood’s Alleged Dig To Bryson During Ryder Cup Bust-Up Only Adds To His Aura
That line was also crossed by Bryson DeChambeau on the 15th hole after his caddie, Greg Bodine, stepped in front of Rose’s eye line while the Englishman was lining up to make his putt. Rose gestured to Bodine to step out of the way, which he did, and the issue was seemingly resolved. After the conclusion of the hole, Rose and Bodine appeared to squash the issue and move on.
DeChambeau took matters into his own hands, however, and stared down the European pair after he made his put to stay in the tie, while walking to the 16th hole. The US golfer proceeded to have a go at Fleetwood, visibly frustrated at the Englishman, who was having none of it.
On the 16th, Justin Rose asked Scheffler/DeChambeau caddie to step back from his eyeline before sinking his putt.
DeChambeau replied to save the hole, but words were exchanged as tensions boiled over. #RyderCup #DeChambeau pic.twitter.com/gVPLYvmksJ

While the audio from the clip is hard to make out, many have taken to social media to allege that Fleetwood issued an iconic comeback to DeChambeau’s antics, as he said:

An absolutely savage line from Fleetwood, who was poking fun at DeChambeau’s Youtube presence, the US golfer having almost 2.5 million subscribers on the platform.

DeChambeau’s channel consists mainly of videos whereby he tries to beat golf couse records at the first time of asking, while he also has celebrity guests on the show, such as NBA legend Jason Kidd, Adam Sandler, and most controversially, US President Donald Trump.
Tommy Fleetwood’s takedown was a thing of beauty, capping off an excellent weekend of golf from the Englishman. He and Rose went on to see out their fourballs win to extend Europe’s advantage to 7 points heading into the final day of action.
Fleetwood tees off against Justin Thomas shortly after 5 o’clock, while DeChambeau faces Matt Fitzpatrick close to half past. Europe need just three points to secure the Ryder Cup in what would be a hugely significant achievement.
Ted Scott Apologises To Francesco Molinair Over ‘Heated Incident’ On Walk To 16th Hole
Another talking point from the altercation yesterday was the argument between Scottie Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott and Francesco Molinari. Scott appeared to push Molinari at one stage, with Fleetwood having to intervene in the matter.
In a video posted to social media on Sunday, Scott cleared the air with Molinari, who was stood next to him, telling viewers:
“We had a heated moment yesterday, but what many of you don’t realise is that we got over it by the time we walked off the 16th tee. Neither one of us wants to make this competition about us, we want to let the players go out there and do their thing.”
“Obviously Team Europe is kicking our butts, and hopefully today we can make it a little more equal, have a better competition, give the fans what they want. But ultimately, I just want to spread love and joy.”
He then gestured to Molinari, and added:
“This is a great man right here, so I just wanted to say I’m sorry, brother”
Molinari responded, saying:
“Good idea, yeah, I appreciate you, I have huge admiration for you and love you, so looking forward to another great game today.”
Best buds. ❤️
