The Rise & Legacy of Tiger Woods!

7 in. Not possible, Garrett. Yes, it is,
Frank. Yes, it is. Before the Nike commercials, the broken knees and fall from grace, Tiger
Woods was just a toddler with a plastic club, imitating his dad’s swing in the
backyard. His story didn’t start on the PGA Tour. It started in a living room
with a child who changed the game forever. So, how did a boy barely out of diapers go from
entertaining on national TV to becoming the most dominant force golf has ever seen? Tiger Woods
is Earl and Culta Woods’s only child. His father was a retired Lieutenant Colonel. Woods grew up in
Cypress, California. Born on December 30th, 1975, it was always clear he was a star. In fact, he
started showing interest in golf at just 6 months, watching his father play golf and trying to
imitate his swing. He got the name Tiger from his dad’s friend, a Vietnamese soldier. So,
right now, I’d like you to meet Tiger Woods and his father, Earl Woods. [Music]
[Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] In his teenage years, he participated in his first
professional tournament in 1992 at just 16 years old. He came in 34th place. This was the 1994
Johnny Walker Asian Classic. In the same year, he joined Stanford where he topped 10 collegiate
events within the first two years and won the NC deu title. Before achieving his pro status
in 1996, he had already bagged six amateur titles. His first tournament as a professional
golfer was in the Greater Milwaukee Open just a week after getting his third US amateur
title. This was the only event left in 1996 for him to get a players card for the PGA Tour
to be among the top 125 money winners. Again, Tiger Wood showcased his stardom by winning twice
and becoming one of the top 30 winners. And this was only the start. In the following year,
he won four PGA Tour events, making him the best money winner. This landed him at the top of
the official world golf ranking as a fast rising star. Fast forward to June 15th, 1997. Tiger
Woods was given the title of the youngest ever number one golfer. He was just 21 years old and
this was his 42nd week as a pro golfer. In 1999, Tiger Woods continued to dominate the charts.
That year he won eight championships on the PGA Tour starting with the PGA Championship itself.
He marked his place as a pro golfer by winning four consecutive PGA Tour events as 1999 ended.
And in the early 2000s he had two more victories, making it a total of six consecutive wins with
his pro status. In 2000, Tiger Woods became the first player to get three consecutive victories
in the PGA Championship since 1936-37. In 2001, he won 11 events on tour, counting the Masters,
and also bagged eight wins worldwide. In 2002, he bagged five victories on tour and
seven times internationally. By 2002, he was Tour’s top money winner in four consecutive
years. In the years between 2003 and 2006, Tiger Woods won 20 times and was the tour’s
top money winner twice. During this time, he achieved Nicholas status as the only player
to win the Grand Slam twice. Just two months after his father’s death, Tiger Woods won the
British Open at Royal Liverpool, making it one of the highlights of his career. In 2007, he won
the PGA Tour for seven consecutive years, ending the year with seven victories. This included a PGA
Championship for the second consecutive year. In 2008, he won four out of the six tour events,
including his victory at the US Open. This was the last event of the season due to a knee injury.
He finished second in that year’s tour money list. After this, he took a break and returned to the
scene in 2009. He continued his winning streak by winning six times on the PGA Tour and getting
a total of $10.5 million. Around the same time, he made his mark in Australia by winning his first
tournament over there. In 2012, he bagged three victories and five more in 2013. Tiger Woods was
not just winning, he was dominating the field. In the years between 1996 and 2009, Tiger Woods
collected 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour wins, cementing his place among the greats like
Sam Sneed. His win at the 2008 US Open was truly phenomenal. Is he going to cut? Oh my god. This is
with stress fractures in his leg and a torn ACL. Tiger Woods completed the 4-day competition and
still emerged a winner. Now in 2009, his career looked like it was over after a major scandal hit
the headlines. But if there’s one thing Woods has always done, it’s to prove people wrong. And true
to that, he made a major comeback in 2019 after going 11 years without a major. And as you’d have
guessed, he won the Masters again in that year. In an emotional moment, Tiger hugged his son in
the same spot he had hugged his father in 1997. After what he had endured during his break,
this was a redeeming moment for this star. Michael Jordan is the most direct comparison
to Tiger Woods when it comes to dominance, influence, comebacks, and cultural impact. I might
be even bigger than him, a young Tiger Wood said after being asked about Michael Jordan. Just like
Michael Jordan, he didn’t just rely on his natural talent. He pushed himself every day, pressured
his teammates, and refused to accept defeat. He treated every practice like a life-defining
tournament. Tiger Woods once said, “Winning is not always the barometer of getting better.”
An attitude that Michael Jordan also held. It was all about the moments that no one else saw.
Those were the defining moments. They are fierce competitors. Winning is the only option. It is an
obsession. They redefine the game. LeBron James, Steven Curry, and Kobe Bryant have given
Michael Jordan his flowers. Just like how Rory Mroy, Justin Thomas, and Jack Nicholas have
highlighted Tiger Woods’s role in shaping golf. Tiger Woods had two children with his ex-wife,
Elen Nordigrren. They were married from 2004 to 2010. Currently, he is dating Trump’s former
daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, which he confirmed in a social media post saying, “Love is in the
air and life is better with you by my side.” With photos of them together. His son, Charlie Axel
Woods, is following closely in his footsteps. He’s even started golfing competitively,
and they have some father-son tournaments. Final round of the PNC Championship. Tiger Woods
and his 15-year-old son Charlie in big trouble at the first. Charlie in the scramble format putted
first, gave dad the line. Not a lot of movement to it and an unlikely birdie. Tiger Woods’s son
plays golf. But just how good is he? In January, Charlie, a high school student, was at the PNC
Championship. He shot his first hole-in-one. It was a family affair seeing that Sam was serving
as a caddy. In March 2023, Woods celebrated his son’s win at the state championships in Florida.
In 2022, Woods told Golf Digest, “Being a parent, you always want to be the protector and guide
of them and teach them skills that they will need in life when you’re not around.” So, Tiger
Woods’s professional life is pretty outstanding, but was he involved in controversies and scandals
in his career? In 2009, Tiger Woods had a career-ending scandal where his extrammarital
affairs were exposed. This scandal led to his divorce from his wife Nordigrren and the loss of
so many endorsements. I want to say to each of you simply and directly, I am deeply sorry for my
irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in. Following this scandal, Woods took a break from
golf, went to rehab, and issued a public apology. This scandal was the first of many. In May 2017,
he was arrested in Florida for driving under the influence. The police found him sleeping in his
car, and tests later revealed he had multiple prescription pills in his system. In response,
Woods said he was taking the medication for his multiple back surgeries. Fast forward to 2023 and
Wood’s personal life was back in public focus. This time, his ex-girlfriend Erica Herman accused
him of sexual harassment and abuse. She sought to void the non-disclosure agreement she had signed
so that she could expose Tiger Woods. Later, Erica withdrew the case, claiming, “I was never a
victim of sexual harassment or sexual abuse.” So, Woods has had his fair share of scandals,
but is there one particular player he was competing with? One name comes up, Phil Mickelson.
Here’s the thing. Phil couldn’t beat Tiger when it really mattered. Both players were phenomenal, but
Woods’s dominance meant second place for Phil. It wasn’t until 2004 that Mickelson got his first win
at the Masters. When Woods’s career slowed down due to controversy and injuries, Phil’s career
came up and he won the 2021 PGA Championship, cementing his place as the oldest major winner
in golf history. As it stands, Tiger Woods’s net worth is around $1.36 billion, making him
one of the wealthiest athletes in the world. To start off, Woods won a total of $121 million
from the PGA Tour. That’s a record in itself, but a large portion of his money comes from his
endorsement deals. His first major deal, Nike. This collaboration was a revolution in sports
marketing. The partnership ended in January 2024, and it was valued at $500 million. People looked
up to Tiger Woods and wanted to look like him. And it wasn’t just Nike. His partnership with Gatorade
gave him $100 million in the first 5 years. Another huge win for Woods was an endorsement
from EA Sports. This partnership lasted from 1999 to 2013 and earned him over $15 million.
The brand deals and wins made him rich, but it’s the investments that made him a
billionaire. The launch of TGR Ventures was his biggest move. Several businesses run
under this name, including TGR Design and The Woods Jupiter. TGR Design designs golf courses
across the world. This company built the Blue Jack National in Texas and Payne’s Valley
in Missouri. Then there is Popstroke, which are mini golf entertainment venues. Think casual,
family-friendly golf courses. Woods also got into the food industry with his high-end restaurant,
The Woods Jupiter in Florida. Here, it’s not just food, it’s access to luxury dining. Despite
his success in business and professional golf, Woods’s journey was filled with injuries, serious
ones that can derail a career. In 2008, he won the US Open with an injury to his knee. Afterwards,
he was benched for the next few months. Then came the back problems. In the years between 2014
and 2017, Woods underwent multiple surgeries, including a spinal fusion in 2017. It was so bad
that he could not walk or sit comfortably. People thought this was the end of his career. For a
minute, it wasn’t about winning. It was about making the first step again. His resilience
saw him back on the field in the 2019 Masters and he won. Unfortunately, he had a devastating
car accident in February 2021, which seriously shattered his leg. He nearly lost that leg, but
he got back up. The good news is Tiger Woods is up and walking around without crutches. We got new
video of him uh outside of his hotel in LA over the weekend. He was here. I see a limp. But yeah,
there’s still a limp. Currently, you can notice the limp in his walk from this accident. Today,
Tiger Woods might not be the Tiger of the 2000s, but he’s still out there. He’s the very symbol
of professional golfing, a true warrior who keeps coming back no matter the odds. He has redefined
the game, broken records, and inspired the next generation of athletes. He kept going through the
scandals, injuries, and public scrutiny. At times, his light dimmed. He’s just human. But he did not
quit. He healed. He learned and clawed his way back to the scene. It wasn’t his skills that made
him great. It was his ability to keep getting up. And that is the phenomenal story of Tiger Woods.
Let us know who you want to hear about next.

Born Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California, Tiger showed his golfing talent almost before he could walk.
By age two he was putting; by age three he played exhibition holes.
He went on to star at Stanford University, where he became one of the youngest to win major amateur titles.

He turned pro in 1996 and exploded onto the PGA Tour one year later — in April 1997, he won the Masters by 12 strokes as a 21-year-old, breaking records and capturing the world’s attention.
Within months, he became world No. 1 for the first time — swiftly rising to golf stardom.

Over his career, Tiger compiled staggering achievements:

15 major championships, the second-most ever won by a man (after Jack Nicklaus)
One of just six men to win a career Grand Slam, and the youngest to accomplish it
Held the world No. 1 ranking for record long periods: 264 consecutive weeks (1999–2004) and 281 consecutive weeks (2005–2010)
Won countless honors: 11× PGA Player of the Year, 8× Byron Nelson Award, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019
His mental toughness and closing ability are legendary — many regard him as “the greatest closer” in golf history.

⚡ Trials, Comebacks & Controversies
Tiger’s career was not without deep challenges.
From late 2009 through early 2010, he stepped away amid marital scandal and personal struggles, dropping in the world rankings before making a comeback.

Ongoing injuries plagued him: multiple back surgeries between 2014 and 2017, causing long layoffs.

In February 2021, he suffered a devastating car crash, fracturing his leg and damaging his ankle.

After recovering, he returned to play the 2022 Masters and has continued to compete selectively ever since.

Off the course, controversies also followed him — most notably the 2009–10 scandal around infidelity, and a DUI arrest in 2017, which led to probation and a public apology.

🔄 Recent Updates & Current Reality
In March 2025, Tiger underwent surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon, sustained during training at home.

He declined the role of 2025 Ryder Cup captain and won’t be competing at Bethpage Black, citing health and his responsibilities in PGA Tour governance.

He’s currently focused on rehabilitation, still recovering from his injuries and the emotional impact of his mother’s passing in February 2025.

Despite setbacks, he maintains influence behind the scenes and in his business & personal ventures — from apparel lines to charitable work and mentoring younger players.

🔍 Why His Legacy Matters
Tiger Woods did more than win titles. He changed golf: he drew mass attention, drove TV ratings, increased purse money, elevated sponsorships, and inspired a new generation worldwide.
His competitive battles, comeback stories, and larger-than-life presence make him not just a champion, but a symbol — of ambition, resilience, and the cost of greatness.

He continues to remain a cultural icon, even as he steps back physically — the legend lives on.
