So, this could be one of the biggest tests of the year. Two big heavyweights going up against each other in the distance club category. You may be quite surprised by the results. [Music] So guys, today we have got a heavy hitting duo to go up against each other. We’ve got Callaway versus Tailor Made. We’ve got the 790 against the new AI150 from Callaway. Two irons that since their release back in well P790 was released back early part of the year, AI150 a little bit later, but since they’ve both come out, they’ve both have a huge amount of merit in this distance iron market. Both irons are good-looking. Both irons are powerful in their own right. Today, you know, we’re going to put them up against each other, see what Trackman says, and see which one comes out on top. So guys, we’ve got um the two heavyweights, 790 versus AI-150. Two brands that are known in the industry to to really offer distance in an iron. And 790 has definitely been the leader of that for a long, long time. So let’s jump on the mat here. Let’s hit some balls and see what Trackman is coming out. So remember, I’m going to be swinging this probably around the 85 to 90 mph mark. We know that in an ideal world, someone that with my ball speed, uh, sorry, my club head speed isn’t always going to be looking for distance, but it is a test that we’re going to I can’t swing it any slower just to prove the point. So, so the the main characteristic that we’re looking at in these tests is distance. So it’s for that golfer that is wants to hit their 7 eye and that 10 15 yards further wants a bit more power and also for me the ease of power. So don’t want to feel like you have to jump at it to get it. The one thing with these two irons that is really solid is they also come and for me they fall under the category of goodlooking irons as well. So, they’re not just these lumps of metal, chunky lumps of metal on an end of a stick. They actually look pretty good, too. A few pulls there. Again, we know 790. We’ve put this to test a few times. It sounds sounds good. Feels always good off the face. pretty solid overall. So, let’s swap over into AI 150. Main difference in the look of the iron for me is it it just looks Oh, obviously the finish. There’s a a lot more of a chromy, brighter finish to the iron. And it also this head looks a little bit smaller. So, Both irons do sounds d what I’m about to say but they both sound very very hot. They they as soon as you make contact with the club it actually feels like the ball’s gone off at some sort of speed that nice. So, it’s always interesting when you’re hitting two big big named brands like this and how close they get to each other. You’d like to think that the numbers aren’t going to be a million miles away, but we had Oh, that’s horrible. Real towy swipe. What we’ll make sure we do with this test is make sure that we take the two worst ones out of each cuz obviously there’s a little bit of of me in that, but we’ll show you them anyway. Oh my word. Oh my word. Sorry guys, that was an absolute Well, I’m not entirely sure what it was. It was like a duck fat hook left. There we go. That’s a bit more like it. Yeah, one more. That terrible. What we got there? Five. One more. Okay, so let’s head over and have a look at the numbers. We’ve hit five with each. Um, let’s have a look at the overall numbers first and see how they’re looking. So, club head speed similar on both. Um, a little bit quicker with the I did have a slightly lighter shaft in AI 150. So, um, that was the slight difference there. Overall, however, let’s take out Yeah, Chris, let’s just take out those two worst ones. So, um ball five and ball Well, the others were all right, weren’t they? Um, so if we leave it there for the moment, you can see that ball speed off 790s are uh sorry, smash factors a little bit higher. Ball speed is a little bit lower, but that could be to do with the fact that I sw what is to do with the fact that I swung the club a little bit slower. Land angle is 790 is very good. So, what does the overall distance look like? Well, because of that extra little bit of lighter shaft, and I think what we need to do here is just to give it a fair test, maybe put a 790 lighter shaft in, but they’re coming out really tight. If we’re going purely on distance, okay, the two fat shots we’ve taken out, if we’re going purely on distance, P790 just gets beaten by about four yards to AI 150. That’s pretty pretty good from Callaway to bring out an iron that is that much faster, that much quicker, and that much further than the heavy hitter that is P790. So, I think we could change it up a little bit, but we could dial up the AI150 at the same time. But for me, that’s a real surprising result that the AI50 has carried that little bit further than P790. Guys, I hope that was interesting. It certainly thrown me out there. I was expecting 790 to be streets ahead of AI150, but when we took out those two bad shots, P790 became well, it got beaten and that doesn’t happen very often. But the A150 is one of the best best distance irons so far of 2025. Remember guys, thanks for watching. Keep watching for the rest of this series and have a look at the rest of the heads-to-heads in the distance iron series.
