Walton County, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Golfers wearing pink could be spotted all over the Links Golf Club in Sandestin.
The 13th annual golf outing is an event put on by Fore Her, a nonprofit that assists breast cancer patients financially and connects them with others in similar situations through support groups.
From bras on golf carts to playing dress-up, many things made the event entertaining.
Fore Her’s founder said she was inspired to start the organization after losing two people who were close to her.
“My mom and aunt passed away 26 years ago from breast cancer within just a few months of each other,” said Amy Walsh, the founder of Fore Her. “My family in Michigan created a golf outing that raised funds for women in Michigan who were undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and I saw the need in our community that this was needed, and so I started Fore Her.”
Those participating in the golf outing told us they many reasons for playing.
“My wife is a cancer survivor, and she was diagnosed about a year and a half ago,” said participant Ted Stone. “She’s had numerous surgeries, but she’s cancer-free, and doing very well.”
Those with the Fore Her organization said each breast cancer patient has a different road to recovery but seeing them get back on their feet makes it all worth it.
