While we’ve already seen that this year’s Ryder Cup is a veritable hot-bed of special-edition shoes and one-off customs. Both teams represent 12 individual opportunities for the game’s biggest footwear manufacturers to show off their latest and greatest golf shoes.

Golfers are notoriously finnicky about their footwear, with players varying wildly in the type of platform, grip level and overall aesthetic they prefer. As such, the Ryder Cup will see a huge array of different types of shoe on display, from casual style golf sneakers to traditional, high-performance spiked golf shoes.

But which ones are most popular? If you’re looking for a new pair of golf shoes yourself, the five models set to make the most appearances at this year’s showdown should provide ample inspiration.

Nike aren’t the force in golf they once were, but with the current World’s number one and two on their books, as well as the reigning FedEx Cup champion, they’re getting a pretty decent return on their investment. Puma’s Ignite Elevate 2 is easily the brand’s most popular shoe among its roster of pro golfers, with Viktor Hovland, J.J. Spaun and Rickie Fowler all routinely wearing the model. The Tour edition is equipped with an added spiked platform for elite grip and stability out on the course, with a FLOATPLATE midfoot insert adding torsional rigidity and an IGNITEFOAM PU midsole providing plenty of comfort underfoot.

Another Adidas model to get a special-edition Ryder Cup makeover for this weekend’s tournament, the Adizero ZG is a sleeker, lighter alternative to the Tour360, utilising an aggressive spikeless platform and Lightstrike Pro cushioning derived from Adidas’s Adizero marathon running shoes. The dynamic torsion plate in the outsole extends from the midfoot into the forefoot in specific areas to help golfers with rebound, but also to avoid rollover and power leak in the follow through of the swing. Even better, you can buy the Ryder Cup special editions yourself for a limited time only.
