Chamblee added: “He has his moments of generosity with fans I’ve heard about. But he’s an odd duck when he’s trying to blend in with the team and he has so many potential bulletin board mistakes. And I think he would be a captain’s nightmare.”

Following the comments made by the analyst, Spiranac has leapt to DeChambeau’s defense. Posting on X, the golf influencer wrote: “Brandel saying Bryson is a “captain’s nightmare” is such a weird take. He’s the perfect person for this type of team event. He gets the people going! Will be fun to watch his matches this week.”

In the wake of the comments made by Chamblee, DeChambeau’s Ryder Cup teammates have also followed suit in defending him. Team USA captain Keegan Bradley has described DeChambeau as “incredible” in the team room, while World No.1, Scottie Scheffler, branded him as a “tremendous competitor.”

Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele added that DeChambeau: “Could be the difference” when they take on Team Europe at Bethpage Black.

DON’T MISS…

DeChambeau himself laughed off the comments from Chamblee. When questioned about Chamblee’s comments, DeChambeau dismissed them with a grin.

“Did Brandel say something yesterday? I don’t know what it was,” said the Team USA star, continuing to sign autographs for fans as chuckles erupted around him.
