I don’t always adjust to try something new with my swing, but when I do, it’s on the 6th hole after my 7th bogey

With how expensive ranges are getting these days, you’re better off going to walk 9 at a local cheap course to get real practice.
I hate hitting off of mats and rubber tees. There’s a driving range literally 4 minutes from my house and I only go there probably 2x a year. The balls are usually shit quality which doesn’t help with dialing in distances. I’d rather hit the practice wiffle golf balls off of a mat in my backyard for free.
If I lived near a nice cheap grass range, I’d be there at least once a week.

I posted on my friends group chat a video of my son doing something funny behind my back while I was swinging, and on top of laugh reactions I also got a critique of my swing which I’ve been having trouble with and in all honesty was the reason my other son was recording it in the first place.
So the next time I went to the range with my sons (who are the only reason I go to the range) I tried to fix my swing to minimal success but it’s a pretty big change for me and something I know won’t happen overnight. Mostly weight shift and hand position.
The weekend after that I had match play and wasn’t ready to use the swing fix in a round that mattered so I went back to my old swing. I still made the odd error off the tee but then I was hitting 3- and 4-iron like a laser beam at the flag. Kept it at even par until the 12th hole where I had won the match 8 and 6, then did the typical thing and started making bogeys but still finished with a 76. My best round in a couple of months.
All I could figure is that it was because I went out and practiced. Even though I practiced doing something else, I practiced something. Maybe it fixed something I didn’t know I was doing.
Golf is a weird game.

Never not tweaking my swing on the range. Range Rat life has benefited me strongly over the past two years.
