[Music] [Music] This episode of Inside Golf Podcast is brought to you by Inside Sports Network. What’s up everybody? It’s uh your boy Boston capitalist Steve on the Hold the Green podcast. All right, we are live. Tap in Bernie. All right, Carson Young is here. I bet love at 28. Let’s go. I bet I bet I bet him at 25. Low sevens. I think there’s some guys in here we like. Harris at 7300. I love Brian Harmon at 3 and 12% this week. [Music] What’s up everybody? Happy Tuesday night. It’s your boy Kapper with Twitterless Steve to talk about something called the Procore Championship in Napa Valley. It’s going to be very exciting, Steve. As you can tell, I’m very, very plused about this tournament. That is so believable. Thank you very much for mustering like 20% energy uh on that intro there because folks, let me tell you, this man could not care less about this event this week. Uh just to pull back the curtain. I know we do a golf show, but my goodness, the level of enthusiasm for this man with this tournament at this mid golf course is nut low, unfortunately. So, I’ll try to get you excited tonight a little bit. You usually usually get me riled up a little bit about it. It’s just it’s a tough spot. You know what I mean? Football just started. It’s not a real tournament. I would like it better if the RDER Cup guys weren’t playing. Like now it’s like all right, so I got to I got to choose between nine guys to bet all [ __ ] 30 below. Like or is it going to turn into a wine weekend? Like I don’t [ __ ] know. Either way, it’s uh it’s not great, Bob. I’m not too excited. Yeah, I think we should. That’s a good point that I don’t think I mean maybe people will talk about on the internet, but we should talk about that. uh what this actually is this week for a lot of these guys, right? Um but you’re right though, like I was so ready to bet Patrick Fishburn like 45 to1 completely irresponsible number because like the tournament favorite, it’s always great when you open up the odds board for one of these fall events and tournament favorite 22 to1 um Keith Mitchell just pops up right there. Yeah, exactly. Like oh we are so back. I remember the disgust that you had when I bet at Bermuda I think maybe two or three years ago. I think I bet Adam Scott 18 to1 and you just completely you judge me. Adam Scott almost won that event by the way. I think he finished top five that week. So yeah, you know, you know how I know he didn’t win it? He hasn’t won in six years. That’s how I know he has that’s how I know he didn’t win. That is true. He has not won this year but or in six years. But no, I actually I I like this event. Um I’m excited to be talking about golf again. It’s nice that this is just like kind of like the offseason. We have the NFL as well. Like it’s it’s definitely and and anybody who’s watching tonight, it’s going to be a way more casual show. Uh we’re basically combining the preview that you would usually see on Sunday with the betting show. I still have a PowerPoint. It is very abbreviated. We’re just going to go over some highle stuff. I mean, a lot of these golf courses that they’re going to play in the fall, like there’s just not much to it. There’s not a lot of nuance to it. It’s just kind of is what it is. Um, but we got some good stuff and I’m just excited to be talking about golf again after a couple weeks off. Yeah, it is. It is nice because like we said, we get burnt out by the time playoffs start. Then we’re burnt out because the playoff format blows. So, really, it’s been [ __ ] what almost two months since golf has mattered. Really? A month and a half, six weeks since the open. I mean, it depends on who you ask. In Ponder Vidra, the last consequential tournament was two weeks ago, the Super Bowl of golf, uh, where where Tommy Fleetwood finally got his great grand victory over 29 other guys. Congratulations to him. Um, yeah. Uh, I whatever. I’m glad Tommy finally won. Air quotes, I guess. Like, whatever. It is what it is. It’s just the playoff format’s so broken there. And now now they’re putting together some another player committee that’s going to [ __ ] it up even worse because they’re talking about more [ __ ] events with less players. And they just they just constantly step on their dick. And I don’t understand I just don’t understand who’s running this [ __ ] asylum. Like that’s really what it is. Like the inmates are running the asylum. They’re letting these greedy golfers decide, oh, okay, wait. Like oh I I can play less. I can play six to eight tournaments a year. They can all be elevated events. They’re no cut and I can make a [ __ ] ton of money. And everybody wanted to [ __ ] on live. And PGA is turning into [ __ ] Live for a major like a chunk of the season. And it stinks. Both formats stink. Well, if the outcome be is somehow corn ferry can get elevated to that would be great. Yeah. Like like I they’re not going to do that. Like I’ve always thought if we’re going to do this like there’s a schedule within a schedule to where you take the big events and that’s the PJ tour and then those guys can’t go play in like the Byron Nelson. Those guys can’t play in, I don’t know, Valspar, but there’s fewer guys who can get in the elevated events and then only the guys who are in the lower tier events like every other week or so. You get new golfers and that’s just the corn ferry tour. Kind of like how NASCAR kind of differentiates itself. You got the Sunday sh race, they got the Saturday race with the Xfinity, but the guys who, you know, sometimes they’ll go race in the Saturday race, but they don’t get money, they don’t get points, so they don’t really do it. And then you can kind of let the corn ferry quote unquote like those guys stand alone and then we get kind of excited about oh this guy is dominating up there. It’s on our TV every single week. Uh it probably would not work because the sponsors would not be happy uh not getting Justin Thomas and Rory. Uh that was my next that was my next point. The next point is that the sponsor exemptions ruined this for everything. They put Ricky in whether he was deserving or not. made the playoffs all because of exempt events where he didn’t where he didn’t have the chance to miss the cut. Like it’s there’s so many situations where they could be putting younger players up, not retreads as we call them in like coach territory, right? Like how many how many times you want to see the same [ __ ] offensive coordinator come through the NFL. You know what I mean? Like I don’t why because he wears orange. And I’m picking on Ricky because I don’t like Ricky, but there’s plenty of examples other than that where it’s like listen, I get it. the sponsors pay the money, they should be able to have who they want in the tournament. But the problem is is the [ __ ] stiff 60-year-old [ __ ] in a suit doesn’t actually follow golf or like golf. He’s the guy who just kind of pays attention to it a little bit. Likes his likes his box and and likes to hang out at the country club and and you know get a like a 15 foot kicking birdie gimme, right? Like I don’t know. I just I think the whole I think the whole I think the whole sport is just it needs a [ __ ] overhaul, man. It really does. It’s it the the TV product sucks. The talking heads suck. Uh the tournaments now. I hate these I hate these signature events. Hate. And now we’re going to get more of them. More of them. Like there’s no drama to it. Like what’s the drama? Like there there isn’t. It’s it’s so annoying. Just get it’s just watching the rich get richer. Everybody talk sh on uh live for nobody cares how much they’re going to go make $80 million. That’s what you’re telling us on the stupid FedEx Cup, which you haven’t made work for 20 goddamn years. It’s still not going to work. You can’t make it relevant. It stinks. The fans don’t like it. You can make it a non. Uh it it almost made less sense this year. Scotty was the best golfer of the year and Tommy Fleetwood is the [ __ ] champion. Get the [ __ ] out of here. It’s the dumbest [ __ ] in the world. That’s like letting the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup because they had the most regular season points. [ __ ] out of here. Like, no. No shot. Well, that’s why you have to differentiate. You have to make the regular season just be its own thing and then just separate and just call it like this is just PJ money grab. Yeah. Basically. Yeah. Just like if like I I actually went to Chuck-E-Cheese uh over the weekend. They have like one of those like ticket things where like it just fly you get in flies up. It should just be that whatever that machine is called just where like all the cash just flies up. Yeah. Yeah. That’s just what they’ll call that. The I would probably rather watch that. I don’t know if I’d rather watch that. No. No. I So, hear me out. So, make it a little bigger. You put like you put uh you put a pairing in there, right? So, Kentlay versus somebody. Who’s gonna come out with the more money? Kentley’s gonna be biting people, elbowing people, scratching eyeballs to make sure he gets every last dollar. I would absolutely watch that. Who would murder somebody if in that scenario? Klay would murder somebody with the cash. Yes. Okay. Yes. Got it. All right. Patton maybe too just because he has a temper. He gets the wrong elbow. I know he’s not on the tour anymore, but I mean I mean isn’t the answer Phil? Phil Phil would Yes, Phil. Yes. Phil Phil loves his money. Let’s start talking about the Pro Core. All right, go on. Look at this beautiful golf course. Look at this beautiful landscape here. Just look at this flat threeline parked Glenn Golf Course. Uh built in 1955. It was renovated by Robert Trent Jones. 1966 and honestly kind of looks like a lot of Robert Trent Jones that you would normally see. Just very narrow and straight and treeine and subtle dog legs and I mean look like there’s nothing offensive about this golf course, but there particularly exciting about the golf course either. That’s why it’s stuck in the fall. So, but I mean honestly though I you and I have talked about this. I would love to go to this tournament. Um, yeah. I mean, just it would be a great excuse with the wife or the girlfriend or whatever to just say, “Hey, why don’t we spend a weekend in Napa? There’s a golf tournament. They got a lot of cool stuff.” Usually for the tournament, they got like wine tastings. I know a couple years ago that they had u like celebrity chefs come in like um Morimoto or like Thomas Keller and they would do like cooking demonstrations. And obviously, you know, you see right here, you have nice little winery uh down here. lot of good wine obviously in Napa, California. Uh it’ll be either here or probably Pebble Beach because Carmemell by the Sea is basically the uh uh basic uh capital of the world. Uh my wife is very basic. She loves all that stuff. So, I’m trying to convince her to maybe go there someday, but I would love to go here. What about you? Yeah, listen, it’s an easy sign off. My wife is a big fan of wine. Uh and she loves [ __ ] California. She’s been once and she is convinced we should live there. And I tell her there’s a 9 and a half% state income tax uh and real estate is [ __ ] insane. No. Yeah, that is. And it’s going to fall into the ocean at some point. Listen, my priest had my my priest when I was a kid was talking about that uh in his sermons because they were having sex outside of wedlock back in 1985. And back all back then it was going to fall in. If it hasn’t fallen in yet, it’s not fallen in now. Oh, so premarital sex is going to cause the San Andreas fault to collapse. That’s that’s that’s the running theory according to Father Peter. That’s what he said. Okay. That and they were like, “They’re giving kids condoms.” I was like, “Okay, Father Pete.” Yeah. Funny. Yep. That’s why Catholic kids have issues. All right. So, that’s fine. What are you talking about, Steve? Yeah, you’re you’re very fine. You’re very fine. I uh I I think I was talking about on the NFL show. forget what the context was. You’re like, “I have a problem. I I’m an alcoholic and I have a problem.” Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. All right. Well, anyways, in 2011, uh, very important man came in, a guy that you and I love. This guy, Johnny Miller, came in. And Johnny Miller used to play this golf course a lot at Silverado Resort. And he decided that he wanted to just like kind of renovate it, you know, you know, make it uh, spruce it up a little bit. So, some of the things he did, he lengthened it. He narrowed fairways, changed a couple of the green complexes. Honestly, it looked basically the same as what it previously did. Um, but you know, this is uh I don’t think I don’t think he’s done many golf courses. I think this might be the one of the only ones he’s done. Yeah. But Johnny Miller is the last uh the last guy to put his uh fingers into this place to maybe uh get these guys to feel some nerves uh coming down uh the uh narrow par five that they played 18 other times because every hole basically looks the same at this golf course. And basically every hole kind of looks like this. So I think this is hole number 13. Yeah, it’s pretty like it’s, you know, it’s you get it’s in the valley here, but it’s very flat. What would you what would you give to have Johnny Miller back on the broadcast, by the way? Oh, I I don’t want that. Do you remember he joined the broadcast in Oakmont? Oh, yeah. That was that was a mistake. All right, fine. How about How about somebody like him like in his prime? Okay, let’s talk about Nance and [ __ ] who’s the guy who thinks he’s funny, who’s not cult like that guy stinks. Ah, could we just do like a hologram and then just have like AI just spit out Johnny uh Millerisms? Johnny isms. I bet you we could. I bet we could and it would be better than [ __ ] what we get. All right, Elon Musk do some good with the world. Let’s figure out a way to get AI Johnny Miller back on the broadcast and spice up a little because he was the best. Johnny was great. I I remember he got a lot of crap when I was growing up because I think just my dad’s generation just didn’t like some of his sour like you know like quips. I loved it though in hindsight. I love him calling out these guys for mistakes and bad shots and shanks. Let’s get let’s let’s pay instead of paying an elevated event. Let’s let’s take all that money. Let’s give it to the British Open Radio team and have them do every single event. That would be [ __ ] amazing. It would cuz then they can they they accuse each other of cheating at bar trivia the previous night. I just love those those sidebar conversations. It’s almost like uh it’s like listening to like Harry Kerry call the Cubs game just like talking about random stuff like oh that’s a strike. Yeah. Yep. Exactly. Yeah. So So I was down on 84th Street at the local bar today. Yeah. All right. But anyways, like this is basically just what every hole kind of looks like. Very narrow. usually a singular bunker that’s usually in the driving range. Um, you know, greens are guarded usually in the front and sides by bunkers here. Like it it looks very very every single hole kind of looks very similar. I mean, at the end of the day, it’s a resort. It’s not a lot of land movement. It’s not supposed anywhere. Yeah. It’s not supposed to be overly difficult. Um, you know, I mean, you could theoretically get in trouble if like you’re a little offline. you’re blocked by trees or maybe you had hit under branches, but like there’s not a lot of ways to get in trouble off the tea at uh Silverado. Um we’ll get to like the miss fairway penalty in a little bit. There’s just there’s not as much what you think given the small greens and how narrow it is and the treeine nature of it. Excuse me. It just is a lot. So, here’s the GCSA report. Um, as I mentioned, uh, built 1955 by Ben Harmon, renovated by RTJ in 1966. Johnny Miller renovated it again in 2011. Uh, a little change since last year. They’ve added 15 yards, uh, to, uh, the golf course. Uh, where they did, I don’t give a [ __ ] because it doesn’t matter. So, and it’s the fall, so I’m not doing as hard of work as what I did back in the spring. You guys figure it out. Uh, and also, it doesn’t matter. They just added a T- box somewhere. Doesn’t matter. Uh they uh widened the fairway by 10 yards on 1315. Again, just little changes that are immaterial. Doesn’t change really what you’re looking for at this tournament. Last year, they did a quote unquote or two years ago reimagination of the golf course, which basically was a fancy word of saying we’re going to reroute it. So, um I think previous hole number 10 and 11 are now 16 and 17. Um, you bring water into play on the par three on 17 and then it ends on a par five, you know. I mean, a little bit of excitement. We saw some fireworks in the uh the year that Danny Willlet choked it away. Remember that one? Oh, he f he three putt. Yeah, he three putt and uh Homer chipped in for birdie. Yeah. Yeah. And Danny missed a I don’t know if it was a threeoot par. I think I think he had like a six foot birdie putt to win it. Yeah. And then choked. Yeah. And then he had a three-foot par putt and he missed that. Max, another insufferable [ __ ] [ __ ] I mean, might as well call him Max alley. He’s won this twice. Great. Yeah. Great. Um, as far as par goes, par 72, five or four par fives in the golf course, 7,100, excuse me, 38 yards. Uh, aronomy. So we got uh bluegrass and ryrass rough only two and a half inches not all that penal um you know uh a mix of bermuda poa and ryrass in the fairways. That’s interesting having it in there. Yeah. It’s like it’s like ponderosa. You know you got a little bit of here a little bit there. Every type of grass is available in the fairways here. How many people do you think know what ponderosa is? How long ago did that [ __ ] place go out of business? Oh, a while ago. Long time ago. Long time ago. I think in in my old college town, they had one up until about six years ago. So, it last for real. Oh, yeah. Way longer than that. Yeah. I used to drive by my work cuz I I actually uh work close to where I went to college. That’s so funny. That’s like All right. Sizzler. Yeah. So, the greens though. So, we’re back to like poa Anna and Bankrass greens. This little mix. And it’s always hard to kind of figure out exactly what the composition of poa to bent grass is and bent to poa. Some of them are a lot more bent. Some of them are a lot more poa. I can usually how I tell what the composition is is when you go look at data golf like the ability to gain strokes like relative to other golf course if it’s super difficult. Usually the bent poa ones that are more poa skew more difficult because the ball doesn’t roll quite as good. Can’t make as many putts. So, and also we’re in California. I mean, you know, eventually, and we kind of see it on Tory Pines’s North where those are Benrass greens, but you definitely can start seeing the POA kind of invading. Once PoA gets into greens, unless it’s properly maintained, you know, it starts taking over a little bit. Um, so these greens I think are mostly POA this week. And it definitely shows up in the difficulty of gain strokes putting. And we’ve seen guys like Max Homa do really well here. He’s a really good POA putter. Uh, Tagal has won here, you know, a California guy. Uh, we’ve had some guys who are pretty good POA putters win here and do well. So, that’s a little bit of an edge, I think, as far as maybe guys you want to look for, guys who might have be a little more successful over on the West Coast, uh, doing a little more s um, similar services, uh, like we’ll maybe see this week. All right, here’s the scoring. So, another reason why, you know, scoring is kind of down here, like, you know, it’s a very simple golf course. Everything’s right out in front of you. You know, the Greens don’t have a ton of undulation to it. They’re a lot on the small side. Rough is not all that penal. It’s like a 71% green regulation rate. Um, scoring is not as easy as what you might think it would be. And for a couple reasons. Number one, usually it’s a dog [ __ ] field and they just can’t take advantage of it. Really, the only time they really had truly easy scoring conditions was 2020. Now, let me give you a pop quiz, Kapper. Who won the 2020? Oh, [ __ ] Uh, it was the Safeway back then. No idea, Steve. No idea. No idea. Old man Steuart Sink won the [ __ ] Was he putting with his 3-wood? Might have been. Might have been. Um, the only thing I remember from that tournament was there people did not want this tournament to go on because the wildfires were like six miles from the golf course and they still decided to have the tournament. So, it was not great. They just DraftKings just took down all the bets for the Pro. What happened? Oh, wow. Scotty would draw. I don’t know. I just refreshed it. Well, maybe that’s breaking news. Maybe this will be as uh dramatic as when Michael Parsons broke uh on all the uh podcasts. So maybe we get a little uh nice little YouTube bump. No, they’re all back when Scotty Sheffller uh was arrested. Uh and that’s why they took all the odds boards. So no, they’re all back up. Okay. So just fake news. All right. But for the most part though, scoring is usually around like if we get some bad weather like in 2022, you know, it was pretty cold and rainy in the final round. I remember. Yeah, you can see scoring kind of closer to par. Um otherwise though, it’s usually like a little bit under one under par, a little bit maybe over if you get some really benign conditions. Um around this time of year though, there’s no rain. Hasn’t rained in about 3 months. So greens are probably going to be pretty firm unless they water them. Um it also going to get kind of chilly in the morning. We’re going to see that this week, Thursday and Friday. Um, I think on Thursday, I don’t think it’s going to get past 60 degrees in the morning for the AM. Oh, must be nice. Yeah. So, I mean, nice for, you know, if you’re in Florida, it’s hot as hell. Well, so here’s So, side note, I it’s hoodie weather where I’m at now. I woke up this morning and walked outside and I texted my wife. I said, I have no [ __ ] hoodies because my daughters have stolen them all. So, I had to order a hoodie off of Amazon today because I have no hoodies where I’m at and it was like [ __ ] 55 degrees. Yeah. You know, e either I mean I’m I’m in for that because I have two other daughters and they’re either they’re either going to steal my hoodies or they’re gonna purposely or accidentally wash them and throw them in the dryer. Yep. Uh so they shrink and uh then they just blame uh daddy for gaining too much weight and that’s why they don’t fit them anymore. No. So they they like they don’t even want to shrink them. They like how baggy they are nowadays. Like they do. I Yeah. No. No. No hoodies for me. They’re all Yeah. Well, anyways though, scoring is usually a little muted here more than you would think. I think part of that is just it’s so difficult to make putts because there’s po in these greens. Also, the fairway uh the drive rates are usually sub 50%. So, because they’re so narrow and the fairways are firm. Yeah. It’s it’s the last three years been 47%. And it’s because just fairways are narrow and they’re dog leg, but like if you hit it too far, it’s just going to run through the dog leg there. So, you know, I mean, like it’s not penal rough, but it still better to come from the fairway to try to get closer to the green. You can’t get as much spin, especially if there hasn’t been much rain. The greens maybe be a little firm. So, the fact that it still is pretty well under par for the most part with a pretty bad field shows how pretty relatively simple this golf course is. But those are really the defenses is some of the PO and the greens, the fact that no one hits fairways. Um, as far as this year though, obviously we have like a better field. Yeah. But the overall strength of the field is still pretty weak. Like it’s still about a quarter stroke um below average like an average PG2 field. Yeah. And I was looking back and the average field strength is similar to 2021 here. So, I would probably guess this is the scoring we’re going to get this week because and I’ll talk about some round score props in a little bit. Um, while those are set really low, like 69 and a half for their average day, um, they’re still expected to beat the field by like well above what their usual baseline is. Yeah. So, because there still is a lot of bad bad players. Yeah. Especially if you try to make like a Scotty Shelber DFS lineup and try to go into the sixes. It’s awful. Oh, I can’t make you know I have to drive over the border for that too. Do you really? [ __ ] hell, man. Man, South Carolina sucks. I was so I was I was very mad about the [ __ ] flash drafts, right? I thought it was just a flash drafts and I went to go try to dick around with some uh some some Procore builds today and it was like, “Nope.” I was like, “Get the [ __ ] out of here.” Yep. Okay. All right. So, let’s talk about some driving uh stuff. Like I mentioned, the driveway exterior was only 47% the last 3 years and it’s because just everything’s narrow and you can’t hold fairways. Uh I mean if they actually decided to grow the rough up um it would be a lot tougher here. Yeah. But they don’t you know you still got to get contact in the ball. Um average driving distance is about 290 or so. It’s about middle of the road in the PG tour. I mean there it definitely is not anything to stop somebody from not hitting driver on some of these holes and just carry over dog legs. There are a couple holes where it’s better just play towards the positional or the middle of the fairway set up a wedge you know go from there. As far as a miss fairway penalty though even though there’s a high rate of missed fairways at Silverado miss fairway penalty is not all that severe. It’s below average in 2022 2023 about average 2024. Raw penalty. Not that severe either for the most part. And there really just is not a lot of opportunity to incur a penalty stroke. Only about 2% of all missed fairways uh incur a penalty. Basically, you’re sending it into like I was going to say where they even get one of these scores. Well, it’s not water. It’s there is some out of bounds like on the outer edges or if you send it just into a vineyard or something. So, that’s really about it. As far as proximity buckets go, uh you know, it’s only 70. is a par 72 7100 yard golf course. We lie shorter pro shots. Higher volume of shots under 150. There definitely is a little bit of a dead zone between 150 and 225. And then you have your four par fives that are 225 plus. So, um, what I’m focusing on this week is some par five scoring and how you do under 150. you know, that’s that’s basically something that’s going to differentiate yourself this week, especially on some of the holes you got to score. Uh because I think scoring will be pretty good for the most part. Um you know, other than just some of the cooler temperatures in the morning, doesn’t seem like there’s going to be a lot of wind. It’s going to warm up pretty nice in the afternoon. Bad weather in California other than firestorms. What’s that? They have bad weather in California other than firestorms. I mean, they get the um uh what’s it called? Um Elino. No, it’s the atmospheric river usually. Yeah, it can be bad. Uh I mean they delayed uh part of uh the second round at Tory Pines and uh nearly caused me to um get detained by uh uh TSA in an airport because I bet a bunch of overs and I was like why are you canceling or putting on hold this round? I was doing great. But yes, around this time of year though in late fall, it’s it’s a delightful time to go to Napa, California in late September. It’s it’s great or early September. It’s great. And some comp courses. Look, a lot of these are going to be your typical like quoteunquote slapic uh events like ABC Summerland. Uh unfortunately, the Patrick Handley Open is canceled. He loved that golf course. Um, but Summerland, Craig Ranch, Hamilton, PJ National, Detroit Golf Club, I think is probably my favorite comp here. Um, obviously you have, um, Abner Donald Ross originally did it. RTJ did some stuff to it as well. And also, it’s very similar like, you know, everything’s kind of very linear, treelined, you know, same economy with the Ben Poa Greens as well. So, I really like Detroit. That’s a good comp. Like Memorial Park where like there just isn’t a whole lot of trouble off the fairway. You know, there’s a lot of longer approach shots of Memorial Park than here, but as far as like off the tea tough, I I think that it’s a good comp. Um Olympia Fields is a tougher golf course, but that has Ben Po Greens, too. So, yeah, like there’s a lot of golf courses here that kind of make sense. You can think of some guys who been pretty good at some of these places. Um and then that translate over to this place. So this is some of the coms I use this week. You know, Summerland, Craig Ranch, Hamilton, Pebble Beach, Detroit, Cordonian, Arishino, you know, this list right here. That’s it. Any questions, sir? No. No. I I was like, he’s going to jog my memory to because in my brain I’m like, I don’t remember much about this place. And he started explaining. I’m like, oh yeah, I remember this place. Like I said, unremarkable. Yeah. I mean, it’s not bad. It’s not good. It’s it’s it’s mid. Like I wouldn’t mind going to Napa and drinking a bottle of wine playing this place. It whatever. It’s It’s fine. Yep. Um and I’m happy to have a golf back. And we do have a pretty good field. This is um I mean at least like strength of field. It’s not the best field we’ve seen here, but at least like top like with the board. It definitely is. I mean you have the 10 bet you have 10 or 10 Ryder Cupers here. Yeah. which pretty good. Um, you brought up a point though. Do you want to talk about that by the Let’s talk about that about like what what is this what is this weekend for them? I’ve already seen Yeah. So So what exactly like is this weekend for these guys? So let’s get your take first. So you’ve already kind of seen it, right? Like I don’t know. I mean you like as much as I [ __ ] on these guys, they still have professional athletes, right? And so they’re going to want to go out and win, I would assume, when they come play, right? So now they were you can already they’re already doing the the grabass videos of Keegan playing with the boys and they’re tossing TE’s on who’s going to hit where and so you can already see that stuff. So this is definitely like a team building trips. I actually I mean look I don’t think it’s the most important thing. I think the most important thing is they’re just trying to get out there and keep their games sharp, do whatever team building [ __ ] at night they’re going to do. Um but I don’t even think it matters that much. I think these guys are just so much better than 90% of this field that they could beat them hung over if they want to go [ __ ] drink all night. You know what I mean? Like um I think it is more about team building and working on what they feel like they got to work on before the Rder Cup because obviously that’s a bazillion times more important than this tournament. Um, but listen, once once they’re inside the ropes, I I feel like, you know, they do they will probably treat it like any other tournament and just get get stuck in their zone because listen, of all athletes, talk about creatures of habit, the golfers, right? Like like the same setup, the same waggle, the same all that [ __ ] So, I feel like once they’re in the ropes, they’re not going to their game’s not going to change just because they’re focused on something two weeks from now. If that makes sense. I don’t know. I I think for me I think I think there definitely will be some of these guys that are just here just for the team bonding event. Like in any other situation, none of these guys would be here. I mean maybe Ben Griffin because he just loves to play and he loves the fall series and maybe just wants to get back kind of like how Eric Cole did for a little bit when he was kind of good. Uh now he’s terrible by the way. Um, but other than that though, like these guys are here, you’re right, for just team bonding. There’s wineries, really good restaurants, and um I mean, I don’t think there’s a ton to get from this golf course that is going to prep them for Beth Paige other than just putting on Po or on Ben Poa Greens because it is similar. They’re have a lot longer approach as a Beth Page. I mean, it’s at at the very least at least they’re playing. I’m glad they’re That’s what I mean. Yeah. At least playing because they didn’t do that ahead of Rome. They just all took a month off. So, that’s good. Um, really the only guy I think of these 10 that I have zero concerns to just want to go out and just win is because he’s said this exact thing is Scotty. Like, really? What’s funny? I have his buddy I have his buddy pegged that way. You have Sam Burns pegged that way. You know, Frank, what the [ __ ] is he gonna do out there? That’s true. I mean, I I like I mean, obviously I like Scotty, but Burns was second my model this week. I almost bet I didn’t I didn’t end up betting him, but I I you know, I mean, like because there’s a lot of things you can like about him in this golf course. Obviously, he’s not shy to win one of these fall events. He’s won Sanderson. Uh the iron play has been pretty good the second half of the year. He’s been a really good hitter on Memphis. no rain, I guess. Yeah, no rain. Um, pretty good on golf courses that have more shorter irons. You know, he’s had a couple of those type types of victories. He’s come close this year a lot, too. He’s been in the mix. Um, you know, TBC Toronto, different type of golf course, but he those were Ben Poa Greens, did pretty well there. Um, you know, I mean, I cons I definitely considered it. Went a different direction at top of the board, but I get it. Um, you know, if you bet Burns this week, I have no nothing against that’s that that was my first bet. And it’s narrative street, too. It’s like, okay, like he wants to get ready for the cup. He doesn’t have a lot of distractions. He might has his wife and kid up there, but I know he and I know he don’t drink. So, I mean, it’s it’s tough. Like, I mean, what else are they going to do? It’s not like it’s going to be a huge distraction where I know Kantlay is going to be out, you know, sucking down the bottles with whatever corporate sponsors are out there and um yeah, I just think his uh I think that he will care about it because he hasn’t gotten a win in a long time. So, um and he knows he can go out there and win and if Scotty’s there to play like they do feed off each other pretty well. Um so, if he has a chance to try to take down Scotty at like a rinky dick event like this, I feel like he’ll try to take it. Okay. Did you bet any without Scotty Marcus this week? No. No. So, you don’t think Scotty can is going to win? So, you’re not afraid of him at all? I’m always afraid of Scotty. Okay. All right. So, I actually not for the guy who went to top of the board because I just didn’t fit my card at that point. Um, but for three of my other bets, I did actually do without not just Scotty, but a lot of these guys. Yeah. So, I’ll look I I’ll look for those. Like I told you, I actually I said two. I only have three I only have three bets right now. Um but okay, I was I was just looking at another sports book and they they offered without like four or five of the guys. So I’ll probably look at that. Yeah, because look, while it’s fun to just have full exposure on, I don’t know, William Mau who’s playing good. Yeah, Billy Catz. Um do you really think he’s beating all 10 of the Roder guys this week? No. Um, even like a Max Griezmann, do you think he’s beating all 10 of the RDER Cup guys this week? No. Yeah. So, I I I think this is one where you might want to explore for maybe a couple of the guys like under 50 to1 maybe without Scotty market. Uh because Scotty definitely has shown he is not shy to win one of these types of golf courses that you would think doesn’t fit because more about putting and short irons and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah and then he shows up wins like a C’s valley or Craig Ranch or Harbortown or TBC River Highlands. Yeah, you name it. Exactly. Like he has Yeah. He’s he has gone on to say like, “Yeah, I just want to win every single week.” And there’s definitely nothing about this golf course that he is now above to win. Even though winning is not the most important thing, Steve, he wants to win every week even though it’s not the most important thing. You know, it was for dinner after. You know, they used to give these guys a wine barrel trophy and if that was up for gra although, you know what? Maybe he wouldn’t want to win them because he doesn’t want that in his house. He want He doesn’t want to be tempted. He doesn’t want to be tempted. That’s a sin. can’t drink. What if What if he puts church wine in that, though? Well, that’s not wine. It’s the It’s the blood of Christ according to my priest. As soon as it’s blessed, it’s not wine anymore. All right. Well, there you go. What if he can Maybe that would be motivation to win if you can put the blood of uh a barrel of Christ blood. Yes. There you go. All right. Let’s actually get back to who we bet here. Um you never del You never delve into these territories. I’m proud of you. I’m fris I’m frisky tonight. I am. Um, and we got a lower audience, too. People aren’t doing this as much. I don’t worry about getting in trouble as much. All right. Um, I bet Cam Young at 22 without And this is not without Sky. This is just Cam Young just in general. Straight up. Yeah. Yeah. Just keep it just keep it rolling with him. He’s been playing great. Uh, the iron play has been tremendous. He’s another one who’s really good on golf courses. They have a lot more shorter irons. He also just how well he drives the ball. Like he can really shorten this place up and take it over dog kind of like how Cam Champ did. just take lines off the tea that take certain things out of play. The putting has been amazing. He’s been pretty good on Ben Po services in his career, too. Like Detroit Golf Club, that’s another one where he actually had a couple good finishes there. So, I mean, the lid is off on the fact he’s won here. He actually strikes me as somebody who might come here just like, “All right, it’s business this week.” Um, so I bet Cam Young at 22. Um, that’s it. Just overall though, not protecting against anybody though. I like that. That’s fine. It makes makes sense to me. Your points make sense. All right. Any other Ryder Cupers you like this week? Um JT is a hardo. He could win here. Like I feel like any any RDER Cup guy that’s going to win is like a hardo. Okay. Now granted, that’s more than half the team, but I mean like a hardo hard. Like JT, I could absolutely see him [ __ ] win this thing. I don’t know. He hasn’t been playing all that great for the last like couple playing all that great. But listen, I’m going 100% narrative street on this. 100%. You’ll see with my next with my with my other two bets, you’ll see. Exactly. It’s just straight narrative street. I mean, what about like top five for uh Mr. Patrick Hatway doesn’t win, but yeah, I could see that. Absolutely. Yeah. Like a lot of successive Ben post uh golf courses. California guy hits his short irons under 150. Pretty good. Four to one, too. That’s a good number for that. It’s four to one for a top five. What’s a top 10 number? Plus 150. That’s actually not horrible. Was this terrible of a field? It’s really not. Oh man. I just I just said on the last golf show how awful my positionals were. Yep. I’m going to delve right back into that. Fine. I might I might I might be tempted by the uh the blood of Patrick Hantlay this week. Love it. Put him on the card somehow. Um that’s really it though. Like Ben Griffin, I mean I just think he’s continues to be underrated. Yeah. On the odds board. I actually thought about I thought about it. I actually thought about betting his round score on Thursday. The problem is though, um I the line is actually pretty good. So they set everybody at 69 and a half, but everybody that should be like, So this is how I look at it. I I basically look at what the round score is and I see, okay, like based on how many strokes they gain over the last 50 rounds, what would be the field average that week? And normally I can catch guys like saying like, okay, like if he’s going to shoot 69 and a half, then the field average is only like two, like 0.200 par. Like it’s going to be way easier than that. Like he can I have some room. Crush that, right? Yeah. And like I find that a lot of like okay they’ll mispric a guy like it should be minus like 150 when it’s like minus 110. Well the problem though this week is that they actually did a good job pricing like all the guys that usually like like because they’re all at 69 and a half. The guys who would usually outpace it they’re like minus 150 the under, minus 160 the under. Like it’s juice like crazy. And then the other end of the spectrum of guys that like that’s really optimistic. It’s like minus 150 to the over. Yeah. So, I don’t love round scores this week. I might consider on Friday because a lot of these guys the the better players are teen off in the afternoon on Thursday. They go off if it’s colder on Friday and I see on Thursday there’s a big split in the temperatures. Um might dabble some overs if I get some good pricing, but we’ll see. What What legal sports book have these round scores now have options? Uh, FanDuel and DraftKings. Beautiful. They are very quick to limit people though. So, great. Yeah. Well, they’re not gonna limit me off of my football weekend. So, Oh, maybe I maybe Yeah, that that’s how I stay under the radar with donkey football bets. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I I went 10 and one on round scores. Oh, you bet like Jaguars futures, too. All right, you’re fine. Keep the money coming, [ __ ] Yeah. All right. Um, so the rest of my card though are guys that are not rider cupers. Yeah, I have I have two more that aren’t Ryder Cupers. Yeah, I protected them a little bit, but there’s I was debating between one guy, actually two guys who were Ryder Cup snubs or perceived Ryder Cup snubs. I wonder if I’m the same guy that might have a chip in their shoulder. So, why don’t you talk then cuz who’ you pick of those two? I took I took Mav McNeely. Perfect. Perfect. Cuz we’re on opposite guys. This is good for the show. Good. Good. Because I took Mad McNeely because he’s a West Coast guy and I can picture him being like, “Don’t they know who my father is? How am I not on the RDER Cup team?” That’s That’s like I I can 100% see him like doing that doing the frat boy thing when you get pulled over. Don’t you know who my dad is? Why am I not on this Ryder Cup team? I can 100% see that. I’ll go out there and I’ll show them. I went in Napa Valley and like have a hard on for it. Um because he’s a hardo. Um 25 to one is [ __ ] gross. I only bet it for the N Street and it would be [ __ ] funny if he actually did win and like four or five of the [ __ ] rider guys played like ass. Um maybe we can get a better price on America. I don’t know. I don’t even know which way I’m going on that yet. Um but yeah, I mean that’s it. West Coast guy um with the snub, you know, but he can also have the same effect like like I said uh going down the playoff stretch with the with the guinea from uh Jersey, what was his name? Got her up like the pressure the pressure was too much and he tried too hard and he ended up [ __ ] blowing himself out of the tournament. Yeah. I mean, there’s no reason for him to be here. He made the tour championship. So, yeah, he doesn’t have to. It’s only to prove a point. Yeah. So, like it is to prove a point and there’s a lot of things he does really well for this golf course. I mean, he’s finished second here before, so we know he can have a high ceiling. The iron play has been coming around pretty nicely for most of the second half of the year. Great putter, especially on Ben Poe surfaces. Uh contended at K or not contended, but like he did really well at Case Valley. So like recent success, maybe that can carry him to this event. And yeah, he’s got chip on his shoulder. Um but I went with a though. I like it. Yeah, it was a better number for without Scotty market. It was 28 without Scotty. That’s not bad. Yeah, it was 20 for Mav. So 28 for AE and A’s irons have been tremendous for a lot of tournaments in a row. Really good for under 150. The putter is hit or miss, but he’s really good in these bent po surfaces. He’s always been pretty good putting on the West Coast, too. Um so I took him at 28 to1 without uh without Scotty last week. I just love it. Like that’s a good pick. Yeah. Um, I thought about Greaserman just because, you know, Rocket Morgate or Rocket Classic, Detroit Golf Club, can get hot with a putter. I don’t like how his irons were trending towards the end of the year. I know like I know we’ve had a little bit of a pause, but um I think I recall because because I think we both hit Tagala a couple years ago. Yeah. Uh in 2023 and we both said, “Well, he was starting to play really well heading in. He had a break the momentum. That’s why we bet him to win and he won.” Yep. Um that was enough for like it’s been trending downwards. I don’t really want that. Yeah. Um this week um excuse me I um so then I transition to the without like the top guys. So without Henley, without Burns, without JT, without Kley, without Scotty. Okay. Like that. I bet Michael Torbj Bjornson in that market for at 45 to one. The the East Coast kid. Yeah, I went to Stanford though. Oh, that’s fair. That’s fair. Yeah. So, you I like I like him. I I like him better than [ __ ] Clan, that’s for goddamn sure. So, uh So, yeah. What What number did you get him at without all those guys? 45 without all those guys. It’s pretty [ __ ] good. Yeah. And like I mean he’s starting to play I I I think I was starting to bet him in the summer. He’s starting to play better. Like he played really well Rocket Classic. He’s got a couple top fives under his belt. Um didn’t end the year also. So great, but something like not used to playing that that long many tournaments, you know what I mean? That type of [ __ ] Yeah. And he’s I I believe in the kid’s talent and having him with I think his ceiling without all those other players. Yeah. Like I think like a maybe a third place finish to like two of those other guys could work or even like a T2 or something. Or I get lucky and like I was going to say you could top [ __ ] six it in five of the [ __ ] rider guys in the top five. Yeah. Or maybe I I could hit both. Cam Young winner and then Torbj Bjornson uh without Henley Burns and GT Mark. Although you know what? No, that that wouldn’t work because he would lose to Cam Young. So that wouldn’t work. Um why would No, he wouldn’t. Why would he lose to Cameo with or without? No, cuz cam cam is not in that list. So Oh, okay. No, it would work. It would only work if I had burns in that market. So I could absolutely do this. Now I’m going to have to Now now you’re going to get me driving over the board doing permutations on who can come in. You could. He could. But no, I I bet I bet to Bjorn’s in that market. Uh taking out all those guys. I just believe in kids talent. I’ve seen him do it on these surfaces before. I’ve seen good form in the second half of the year. Um, so I bet that and then I bet and you’re going to laugh at me. Okay. In that same market, I bet Rico Hoy. Come on. I was just about I was about to ask you what it was cuz that’s who I bet outright. So you bet him like outright like 120. H I got 110. But yeah. All right. Whatever. Tail. All right. Why you like Rio Hoy then? His ball striking is [ __ ] immaculate. The [ __ ] can’t putt and he’s switching to a long putter. And this is the first time that I’ve been able to get in front of oh my god they’re making a putter switch and I’m not not betting on it. So I was betting on I was betting on I actually finally have the information that it’s not Thursday afternoon where I’m like oh look he’s putting well because he has a new putter. We actually got the information ahead of time. Now look I still have the I still I still picture him airmailing that [ __ ] green when he lost to Harry Hall and being like I’m never betting on this [ __ ] again. But I have bet on him since. Um and listen the ball striking numbers are just [ __ ] immaculate. switching putters. Yeah, why not? That’s why I need to I’m probably I’m gonna have to go bet that with the without market as well, but I thought 110 that’s definitely worth the [ __ ] sprinkle. Okay. Yeah, I mean did I mean Rico Hoy is not being Scotty this week. Yeah. No, Scotty would not let that happen. Um but yeah, I think he can take all those five other guys out there. I I echo the ex I I have nothing to add. That was a very good case. Uh great ball string numbers. The putting has been awful, but he’s making a putter switch. Hey, I’m willing to find out. [ __ ] yeah because we we never get this information ahead of time ever. It’s always after. No, it is. And actually, if you look at his Ben Poa numbers, I mean, they’re bad, but they’re not as bad as uh what he usually does. Exactly. So, um All right. So, do you have did you bet anybody else or you want me just rip off a couple of like Yeah, rip off a couple. That’s all I got. That’s all I got for Um I mean Ameliano Grio’s won here before and his putter’s coming around still. I mean we saw him contend to John Deere like um he’s saying a 90 to1 outright. I don’t know about positional though, you know, for guys usually pretty good here. That’s not bad. Well, Gary. Yeah, I mean Gary’s c isn’t Gary an assistant captain? So he’s caught up in a lot of that Rder Cup stuff this week, too. Is he the assistant captain? He is an assist. He’s an ass captain. I love that. I listen I man god damn it. So I like the captain and the assistant captain. One of them anyway. Um old man coocher. No positional. He’s been playing all right golf. He’s in pretty good from under 150. Irons have been pretty good. He’s a good putter on Benoa. I’d rather Nico with the same price. Yeah, Nico is another guy that I I highlight too. That’s fine. Um Sammy Balamaki is actually was playing good over in Europe. He was in over there for a little bit. Now he’s back here. Okay. So, he’s playing all right. I mean, putter and irons and short irons, like that’s all kind of clicking for him. Kind of like that play. Uh I mean, I I mentioned William Mau, Billy Catz, Josh Kyle. Um just I mean just starting to I mean his overall numbers from under 150 are terrible but he’s really improved over the second half of the year you know including a win. So um I’m not betting Victor Perez. I’m just mentioning Victor Perez because I bet him a lot. He [ __ ] loved that goddamn Frenchman. I do. I do. If he wins this week I’m be really sad. Um I do wonder though why isn’t he over at uh in Wentworth playing? He should be because he knows he’s got a better shot to win this bucket tournament. Scotty’s in this field. He has no shot. I mean, look, I guess, but I mean that that BMW field is stacked. It It is. Maybe we’ll say that to the to the end. I didn’t bet it, but I think you probably should. I know. I I want I was looking at Terrell had at [ __ ] 22. Of course you were. You just just bet all your guys over there. I mean, that’s what I do. It’s a great field. It’s a great field over there. Like Hideki 75 to1 over there. I know. It’s pretty good. We should be doing that, but we’re not. We should. We should. No, there there’s other people who give DB World Tour content on on isn. Um, Chandler Phillips rated really high for me. Uh, I think it’s mostly course history. Texas golfers with bad mustaches away from me. Cam is Cam is no longer the producer. I don’t have to be a prisoner to his awful&m whims. Uh, or Carson Young. Yeah, either one of them. Don’t care. Hey, the program. Where is Carson Young even in this field? Where is Carson? Oh, he’s fishing somewhere. Where is Carson? There’s good Oh, there he is. He’s in this field. Where? Yeah, he’s 150 to one. I must have missed. That’s actually not a terrible play. His irons have been pretty good the last like 16 rounds. Short of course. That’s not Yeah. Rather bet Sheamus. You rather bet Sheamus stinks. So does [ __ ] Carson Young. You want to do a charity bet? Come on. Fine. You take Sheamus out of Carson Young. All right, let’s do it. All right, come come through for me, Carson. Let’s go. Um, Kobe Kaya was playing good golf towards the end of the year. He’s raining well for me. He’s highlight here. This is gross. But Taylor Montgomery is just the king of the fall. Yo, was it a red state? Where we at? No, no, he’s definitely not [ __ ] doing good in goddamn No, that’s that’s Taylor Moore. Taylor Moore. Now, Taylor Montgomery is the guy that all he can do is putt. Putt. Yeah. Yeah. And he has been eviscerated by Pete Dy 17th holes with water around it twice in his career. That’s fair. Um, but he was starting to play a little better last couple tournaments. He T12 I think at 3M and all he does is just putt and he putts great on the surface. So, it’s gross, but that’s maybe close your eyes, just bet it. Um, remember we all bet Kevin Roy at like 30 to1. He’s down to 120 in this field. Well, I mean, [ __ ] not even Kevin Roy. I mean, that one is not shocking because we knew where he would eventually end up. Yeah. Tom Kim. Tom Kim 110. That’s That’s Sah 110. You’re on mute. Uh, you’re on mute. There you go. No, I know. I was I was doing something worse. Yeah. Oh, okay. Sah 110. Now, now you get your normal like Ecros and [ __ ] Sam Ryers down here, but man, Sah and Tom Kim, if you would have told me a year and a half ago that at the Pro Core, I would be getting triple digits for outrights, I would have thought they were both in like a horrific car accident and this was their first start back. I mean, Sah’s play like he’s in a car accident, unfortunately. So, I know that that’s it’s it’s it’s a tough tough scene for them to be the basically the same price as Web Simpson who is just washed beyond. It’s not good. Um, yeah, there’s so many of our favorites down here. Garrick Higgo is down here. Joel Damon’s down here. Eric Cole, what happened to him? It’s not Florida. Um, it’s not Harry Higs. Tom Hogy. Where’s the nearest casino? It’s got to be casino in Napa. Oh, has to be has to be has to be. He’s here. Nick Hardy. God. Get lose your card already, butt, pal. God. Seriously, man. Some of these [ __ ] guys that like you say their name and I’m like, I’ve played these guys in DFS for so long and wasted so much money on these [ __ ] Remember I would bet Will Gordon like every single I do. 21. I do remember that. And no, no, I I I would bet him top 40 and he kept blowing it on Sunday every for like six straight weeks. Yep. I just kept losing money on him. Der’s asking if Diamond’s playing for his cat. Is he playing for his cat this year? Um I believe so. Oh, we’re gonna get sad Diamond. Yeah, maybe. So, all right. Brian Campbell’s 400 to one. Come on. FYI, you always about that. Sprinkle it. [ __ ] it. Why not? What a weird What a weird year. Win twice. You’re still 400 to one. It’s so It’s so insane that he won twice. Yeah. Well, Gordon Sergeant, who hasn’t panned out, he’s down here 400 to1. Yeah, all these guys stink. Hayden Buckley a thousand to one. Yeah, he sew murdered his career. Yeah, Buck does not like the [ __ ] No, that’s about it. Shank. Oh, man. Shank Ryan Palmer 1500 to one. Sad. Camila Vgas, thousand to one. That’s worth a [ __ ] sprinkle. No, it’s not. I know. Why? No. Save it for Bermuda. All right, that’s fair. That’s fair. I will. Yeah. Yeah. He He loves playing there. Okay. All right. That’s enough of going through all these [ __ ] bums. All right. So, that’s the the we’ll put out the cards in the uh or at least Steve definitely will uh put out the card in the Discord. Uh and we got our NFL pick show tomorrow night. Is it just me and you tomorrow night? I believe it’s just you and me. And um it’s going to be like the end of eight Mile where you and I go back and forth trying to one up each other about how much we hate our [ __ ] teams. Yeah. Good luck. You can’t hate your team more than I hate Oh, I I I got a lot a lot. You at least have a future. You have a quarterback you don’t know about behind there. I already know my I don’t know if he we have a future. Oh, you got you have more hope than I got. I promise you that with We can do this tomorrow. We can do this tomorrow. We will. We will. We can do this tomorrow. Um yeah. Listen, appreciate everybody listening to uh this. We’ll do football this week. Next week football and uh riding up to the RDER Cup. Man, I don’t know. I don’t know what flag I’m flying yet. It’s tough. Russ is cooked 100%. They they ball should be fired for [ __ ] starting that guy again. Um yeah, we I have a take on that tomorrow. Sweet. Well guys, that is what we call a professional tease in the business. We will talk to you guys tomorrow night around 9:05 after ballnowers after dark. Later. Bye.

  1. You guys are depressing man! I thought I was watching this for dfs or anything but the slamming of the shitty pga playoffs. I already know they don’t know what they are doing
