Why You Keep Topping Your 3-Wood (And How to Fix It) 🤝⛳️

Hitting your woods off the ground is one of the more difficult things to do in golf. But I have two things that are going to really help you out. So, I don’t want you to get confused with hitting a wood off the ground. Specifically off the ground, the wood is more similar to a long iron than it is a driver. That’s where a lot of people kind of mix things up. They set up like they’re going to hit a driver, really try to hit up on it, but then they’re hitting up on it and actually miss the entire face and top at 3 ft in front of them. But before we put it on the ground, we’re going to start with it on its teeth. We’re still going to treat this as if it’s a long iron. So, I want you to take your stance a little bit wider than it would be with your iron. I don’t want you to place it too far forward. I want you to place it almost like a ball or two inside your front heel. Now, the most important thing here is when we are swinging, I want you to feel like your chest is staying down over the ball. We don’t want to dip this back shoulder because then the top comes into play. First, try a few swings with the ball barely teed up off the ground. And we’re our goal is to make a little divot after the tee. By using a tee, it allows you to see where you make your divot and it makes it a little bit easier for you. After you hit a couple nice ones off the tee, I want you to take it out and place the ball flat on the ground. Now, really important that we maintain our chest down over the ball. Set up and imagine you have a long iron in front of you. Feel your chest maintain that posture. Don’t lean back. And our goal is to hit the ball first. Make a slight divot afterwards. have a nice high finish.

  1. Think this is my biggest issue as a beginner. I notice myself leaning back more through my swing even tho practicd swings seem fine. Great video!
