UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Posting its best round of the tournament over Monday’s final 18 holes, the Navy women’s golf team propelled itself to a fifth-place finish in a deep field at the 2024 Nittany Lion Invitational in University Park, Pa.
Playing on Penn State’s par-72, 6,363-yard Blue Course, the Midshipmen started the event with a 9-over par 297 in the first round Sunday before closing the opening day with a second round of 13-over par 301 to sit sixth in the 16-team field. The Mids then came out and shot their best round on Monday at 7-over par 295, taking over fifth place from Penn by a narrow two-stroke edge at 29-over par 893.
Winning the team title was host Penn State at 14-over par 878, edging out runner-up Delaware by one stroke, while Yale’s Mia Sessa claimed the individual medal at 5-under par 211.
Leading Navy was sophomore Vivian Cressman in a six-way tie for 11th place, posting rounds of 73 and 75 on Sunday before shooting an even-par 72 to close out the tournament at 4-over par 220.
Finishing one stroke behind Cressman was junior Emma Tang, who used rounds of 74 and 73 over the course of Sunday’s action and another round of 74 on Monday to close at 5-over par 221 and a share of 17th place.
Placing 34th on the leaderboard, junior Keira Howard tallied rounds of 75 and 77 during Sunday’s play and shot a 74 on Monday morning to wrap up a tournament score of 10-over par 226.
Playing in her second collegiate event, freshman Angelina Kim came out with a 75 in Sunday’s first round and a 77 right after before shooting a 78 on Monday, ending tied for 44th at 14-over par 230.
Finishing at 16-over par 232, senior Sue Lee bounced back after an opening round of 81 to shoot 76 and 75 in the next two rounds and catapulting into a tie for 50th.
Up next for the Mids will be the Navy Fall Invitational on Oct. 4-5.
