in today’s golf lesson video I’m going to give you seven brutal truths about how to break 90 in golf every time I’m a PGA golf professional but trust me I have been through the frustration myself not only trying to work out how to break 90 but how to break 80 and even how to break 70 so here are seven simple golf tips I wish I knew as a beginner golfer to help me break 90 every time before I give you these seven simple golf tips if you’re new to the channel hello and welcome if you’re a returning viewer hello again little reminder for of you all if you’re not subscribed to the Channel please do consider hitting that big subscribe button it helps me continue to make free content just like this to help you lower your scores now hit the thumbs up if you enjoy the video and turn your Bell on so you get notified of when I upload all my new videos tip number one I want you to change your path everyone relates their school to what the part of the whole actually is so for instance this is a par 4 I want you in your head to start thinking that this is a par five it’s going to relieve some stress and some pressure on you most golf courses are a par 72 aren’t they so if you bogey every hole you’re hitting 90 you beat your bogey score on one hole you’re breaking 90 yes please like better golfers you need to be patient on making better scores than your par I will hit this drive in a minute don’t worry even the best players in the world are trying to avoid disasters and you should too get rid of those double bogeys get rid of those triple Bogies on your card changing the part of the hole is going to build you with that confidence that you’re able to make more pars and then like the pros as well it’s just about being patient and waiting for those birdies and pars to arrive tip number two let’s continue that theme of changing the par that also means that you’re allowed to hit your Greening regulation in one over as well so people that don’t understand Greening regulation par 3es you’re if you’re collecting stats you hit the Green in one that would be a green in regulation if you’re on a par four you hit that green in two and if you’re on a par five you’ll hit that green in three let’s add one on to each of those green regulation stats to par 3es hit it in two par fours hit it in three par fives hit it in four again that’s going to relieve a load of pressure and if you miss hit a shot for instance it’ll hopefully stop you panicking and playing that hero shot every time as a recovery it might mean that you’ll be able to hit your favorite Club more often like if driver is not your favorite and 3w or hybrid off the te is go for it but in my opinion as the stats show the further you can get that ball down the hole and in play the better but if your favorite Club is going to keep that ball in play more keep doing it then go and get some lessons on trying to improving that club that’s losing you balls tip number number three and continuing that theme just picking my ball up there temper greens this morning so not really going to put out much continuing that theme of keeping that ball in play you need to have a go-to shot and generally speaking for better players it’s a three4 shot a punt shot a shot that you move ball position back a little bit you put your weight more towards your front foot your hands move forward and you get a bit more Shar lead and then think more Tommy Fleet would finish your more here not all the way around the back of your neck it’s s off it’s follow through it’s controlled you’re keeping that ball again in play with that goto shot most better players are picking this shot as well because it can be used in so many situations I’m hitting down a massive Hill here towards this PA three I’m going to control that flight hitting this three4 shot into winds a really good one hitting out from trouble under trees getting that ball flight a lot lower it’s such a win having a go-to shot generally speaking as well because my ball positions push back a little bit I’ll hit more from the inside I’ll get more of a draw shape that’s lovely like you just can’t I was going to say you can’t Mish hit it but you can Mish hit it but your go-to shot needs to be doing all the things you need to improve ball striking ball position back moves your low point forwards of the ball so you’ll hit ball then turn contact your weight being forward all these things are going to move that low point forward so you strike ball then Turf perfect for hitting a consistent strike every time you need to go too shot tip number four you need to start using a measuring device these things will start to help you understand how far you hit each of your clubs forget how far you once hit your 7even iron that was 30 yards further than your playing average you need to know what your playing average is with each club and these things will help you do that not only are they great to help you understand how far you hit it but they’re great for course management too I can zap things on the course these trees are 173 yards to carry if you don’t hit it that far you’re going to have to make a decision do you try and hit through the narrow Gap or do you lay up short of it those kind of things it’s going to help you navigate your way around the course and keep yourself out of trouble I’m personally using the Marzi iomi 2 at the moment and these things are packed with tech you’ve got slow reading so it will take the slope into account you’ve got weather that it’s taken into account the iomi 2 has got Point to-point technology all sorts of things to help you improve your game and lower your scores you’ve got to get a measuring device tip number five let’s continue on the theme of a go-to shot you need that in the short game as well you need to find a shot that is repeatable and you use it as much as possible you don’t need to have Phil Mickelson short game you need to get the ball on the green yeah just on the green so I would find a shot that’s repeatable with a midf flight which you’re able to use in all situations you can then change club and do the same technique and then when you get better you can think about adding new shots to your game one of the biggest mistakes I see in the GOL swing when it comes to short game is too much Trail knee Bend people get this right leg flexing it gets your knees going this way which means your pelvis lowers which lowers your low point you start fatting and thinning your golf shots so make sure when you’re hitting chips that you keep your right leg as straight and as high as possible so I’m tending to stand pretty straight I got a tiny bit of knee flex but that’s it and I keep that knee Flex throughout my swing I don’t let any of this happen knee Flex here and listen to that strike it keeps your low Point consistent and you’ll start striking those chip shots better tip number six and I would say that this is possibly your lowest hanging fruit and there’s no reason why anyone watching this video could be as good as Tiger Woods with their pter not everybody has the ability to hit 300 yard drives some of us do but everyone can hit a putt High handicap players though have more first putts from 5 to 10 ft they miss the the green but will hit some percentage of their chips inside 10 ft putts inside 10 ft make up 28 to 32% of first putts but when you add second putts that number jumps to 55 to 65% for most players if you only have time to practice one thing with your putting focus on putts from 4 to 10 feet not only do you have a large percentage of putts from this distance these are all makeable putts and if you do have the ability to practice a little bit longer on your putting distance control is the key you need to be good at distance control to eliminate three putts we’re not allowed any three putts if we TR on to break 90 and that will eliminate those big numbers which we talked about earlier in the video video those doubles those triples that’s lowest hanging fruit in my opinion tip number seven you’ve got to start learning to take your medicine and stop trying to be a hero PJ tour players make bogey 80% of the time when in a recovery position think of that as in the trees or in deep rough your number one goal is to get that ball back into safety first if you do this again you limit those big numbers and I promise your scores will tumble and you will keep breaking 90 every time I hope these seven simple golf tips help you lower your scores and break that 90 barrier if you’re trying to break a 100 or trying to break 80 watching this video as well similar rules apply keep those big numbers off your scorecard let me know in the comments down below if you use any of these simple tips in your own game and quick reminder for you all again if you’re not subscribed to the Channel please do consider hitting that subscribe button it helps me to continue making free content just like this to help you lower your scores hit the thumbs up if you enjoyed the video and turn your Bell on so you get notified of when I upload all my new videos thank you all so much for watching I’ll see you in the next one [Music] B I do most of these tips. But in the past, I practiced short putts more, thinking it was more important to get them in compared to long putts going in. But I can see the value of getting the long putts very close to the hole! I will do more of that this season. Thank you Coach!
Really good. Greens in reg, I like that add 1 stroke idea. And putting, 5-10 ft., distance control, great stuff! Thanks.
Well Done Coach on explaining how to break 90 every time. As a senior golfer, I have been adhering to most of your 7 recommendations in my game. Even at that, I still have failures but do not lack in my determination! Always enjoy your input Coach! Keep up the good work!
I feel that bogey is allways ok, but double is way too much! there should be something in between, hah!
I really struggle with learning distance control on putting. I don’t belong to a country club, so it is hard to find practice areas for lag putting practice.
Nice simple advice, thanks coach🙏. PS, when you and Mark going to do some more content?
Thank you Coach
I learned this years ago and it sure did help, especially on tougher courses we play on our men's tril.
Why would you not use a phone app for your distance measurement?
Great tips coach .. I think 2 putts = 36 per round.. and I break the game into 3 holes at a time trying to keep under 12..12×9 36 then the back 9.. seem to work!
My dad said to me 50 years ago,”play for the Bogey and the pars will fall”
Man im close 91 is my best I seem to shoot high 90s regulary now so my goal is too break 90 this year.
Shooting to break 90 for the first time this year, I normally hover around low to mid 90s consistently last season. Where I struggle is 125 yds in, that will be my focus this year.
Quality advice. If you wanted to add a #8 it would have to be focusing on good contact on each shot. If you just hit the ball cleanly 2 or 3 times in a row then you will have an opportunity to make a par or bogey on every hole.
Def use most of those points. I would add getting fit and fit again for driver, irons and putter. And your new short and mid irons may be great but that new 5 iron could be less than optimal. My best 5 iron isn't from a set.
name of that rangefinder at 2:29?
Awesome coach fairplay
I don’t think you need driver to break 90
I would add, 3 putting from 30 feet is the normal for higher handicap players and since statistically our proximity to hole on approach, we are still going to 3 putt
also lag putting (first putt aim to get within 1m) & not checking your score until the end of the round can help prevent choking on the last few holes
Tip number 4 is great advice. Tried this today with my 4hybrid and it worked really well
Putting putting and putting. Work in distance control and reading greens. Also find an easy and repeatable stick chipping swing. Improving your short game is the number one ☝🏻 way to improve your game the fastest. Finally take a lesson on how to swing driver.
First time I have heard advice on "how to develop" a 'go to shot' (Tip 3). Really useful and look forward to trying it out.
Generally I am a 90 golfer (+/-5), IMO the key to beating 90 is to hit fairways off the tee, or at least keeping my drive out of trouble.
Someone has been watching Matty Boom-Boom…
No hate – The way of the playa is definitely tried and true!
Me how to break 90 make putts and don’t chunk irons. I am 69 and only hit Drives 160 but on the plus side I play 5-6 rounds with ONE ball ya I do hit it very straight
Bogey golfer here. My issues are the tee box and thin/chunk shots. I get rid of those issues, I’ll shoot in the 80s easily.
One of the things I've been doing recently is to use a go-to chip shot that I can use virtually anywhere. The key I've found is to give up trying to make perfect contact. Instead, use the bounce on the wedge to bail you out. This has helped me get rid of those nasty bladed chips across the green and also huge duffs that goes like 1m.
Love this. Took a parent/child lesson with my daughter a few years and the teaching pro had identical philosophies. I remember him saying, “Bogie is your par.”
these tips come from somsone that broke 90 easily – all of these types of videos are assuming a hazard free round where all golfers struggling to break 90 know that is where the issues come. The easy bogeys and pars we achieve are not the issue its the 9 shots on a Par 5 due to OBs that blow up the score. The idea you can also just extend GIR by one is assuming a 2 putt at worst ever hoel again totally unrealistic
