If you do these three things before you hit your driver, your odds of hitting a good drive in the middle of the fairway go way through the roof. Now, we know this when we’re swinging the driver, it’s different because the ball’s on a tee. So, we’re going to talk a little bit about the feet position. We’re also going to talk a little bit about the upper body. And then I’m going to give you a nice little tip that help you get good tempo. And of course, we always like to finish up with a little bit of a drill. When we hit a good drive, we want to hit slightly up on the golf ball. So, the first thing you’re going to do, and these things take less than 5 seconds, is we’re going to find proper ball position. Go ahead and place your driver behind the golf ball and put your feet together. What I want you to do is take a mini step with your lead foot towards the target. We’re talking maybe one to two inches at the most. And then you’re going to take a much larger step away from the target to find that good wide base. Now that base is going to be a little bit different for each person based on how tall you are, how much you weigh, different things like that. But if you go through this process where you put your feet together, place the driver behind the golf ball, take a mini step towards the target, and take a much larger step away from the target, you will get the ball in the right spot. Because in order to hit a good solid drive and get the maximum distance for our swing speed, we got to hit slightly up on it. And getting that ball forward in the swing is going to help us do that. So that’s the first thing that you’re going to do. Now, let’s talk a little bit about the upper body, because the upper body has a lot to do with how we hit the driver as well, because once again, the ball’s on a T, not on the ground, right, Nick? Is the ball on a tea? Yeah. Okay, good. Nick gave me a thumbs up. Make sure you give us a thumbs up and be sure to like and subscribe uh to the channel as well. Tell us where you’re from. So, the upper body is got to be slightly tilted away from the target. So, if I just take a club and I kind of put it along, you know, kind of mimics my spine. We want the upper body to be tilted slightly away from the target. Cuz when we’re set in there, now we got the ball forward in the stance. When the upper body is slightly tilted, that also helps us hit slightly up on the golf ball. Here’s a couple golden nuggets. When you tilt, your lead shoulder goes slightly up. Your trail shoulder goes slightly down. But also make sure that your shoulders ever so slightly close. This is square to my target line. When I tilt, I want my shoulders to be up and slightly to the right as a right-handed golfer of where I want that ball to finish. Now, why is that important? Uh because with the driver, lots of you out there, you might slice it. And when we take the shoulders and we tilt them and we angle them slightly close, this is one of the cornerstones of the vertical line swing system and and VLS golf and the bad lie, the book we wrote and all that type of stuff is is that when we slightly tilt the shoulders and we slightly close them, that promotes that promotes, it doesn’t guarantee, but it promotes a swing path that’s more in to out. And in order to hit a nice high draw, we got to swing the club into out for the most part. We have a ton of videos on that. You can check those out if you want more details. Number two is make sure you tilt. Now, how can you find that? Take the club, kind of put it right down the middle of your body like so. And then just go ahead and bend or excuse me, go ahead and tilt till the club head, the driver head hits you in the lead leg. See that? Boom. That’s the right amount of tilt. Now I’ve got that feel. Boom. So, let’s take it from the beginning. Feet together, club head behind. Mini step towards 1 to 2 in. Big step back to get your base. Mini tilt. Boom. Now, I’m in a good spot. My shoulders are slightly closed. I’m tilted away from the target. I’ve got the ball slightly forward. Number three is what I call the hover. If you watch some of the all-time great drivers of the golf ball, Jack Nicholas, uh, Greg Norman comes to mind. What they do with their drivers, they slightly hover it off the ground and behind the golf ball. If I just place it behind the golf ball like this, it’s on the ground. What I want you to do is just slightly hover it, meaning slightly lift it off the ground so the club head is elevated. Couple things happen when you do that. Number one is when the club head is elevated, you have to hold the club. You got to bear the weight of the club in your hands. And that immediately helps tempo. When the club’s on the ground, the ground is holding it. It’s holding the weight of it. When I lift it now, I’m holding it. And when you hold weight, naturally your takeaway becomes more smooth and natural. The other thing that it does, remember our first thing we talked about is in order to hit a good drive, I got to hit slightly up on it. Well, when you elevate the club, that gives you the sensation of swinging more through the golf ball. We don’t want to swing down on it like we do with an iron. We want to swing through it. Feet together, club heads behind. Mini step, big step, little tilt, a little bit of hover. Let me go ahead and hit it. Oo, not too bad. I got a little bit on the toe, a little bit of hook, Nick. Okay, good. Hey, Nick, give me a thumbs up. Good. Make sure you’re giving us a thumbs up on this video. What about the takeaway? We got you set up right. Those things maybe take five seconds on the takeaway. Here’s what I want you to feel. This is a golden nugget. When you take the club back, I want you to initiate the golf swing by moving the butt end of the club. This is really with any club, but really with the driver. I want you to initiate the start of the swing by moving the butt end of the club away from the target. I don’t want the butt end of the club going towards the target. Let’s tie this together. Here we go. Feet together. Balls right there. Right. Okay. A little mini step, big step to get the base. I’ve got my slight tilt with the shoulders closed. I’m hovering. And now I’m just going to waggle. And I’m going to waggle like this. See this? This is the waggle. I don’t want that. I don’t want this. I want to see a little bit of waggle. I want the butt end of the club moving away from the target initially. Oh, that was better right there. That was right down the pipe.
