Major winners Shane Lowry, Sergio García and Patrick Reed have added to the stellar line-up at the 2025 Open de España presented by Madrid on the DP World Tour from 9 to 12 October.
The trio of major winners will join two-time major champion and three-time Open de España champion Jon Rahm (2018, 2019 and 2022), who is bidding to surpass Severiano Ballesteros with a fourth victory and move closer to the record of Ángel de la Torre, who won five titles in his national open between 1916 and 1925.
Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host the $3.25 million tournament for the sixth consecutive year. In 2024 Málaga native Angel Hidalgo pip Rahm to the post in a playoff to claim his maiden DP World Tour title.
Shane Lowry – Luke Walker/R&A
Irishman Shane Lowry has recorded four top-20 finishes in his six previous appearances in Spain’s national open. Currently ranked 153rd in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai Rankings, the Offaly man needs a strong performance in Spain, and the following week in India, if he is to secure his place in the Play-offs in the UAE.
Sergio Garcia – LIV Golf Nashville – LIV Golf
Spain’s Sergio García, a past winner of the tournament in 2022 and former host in 2016, will make his return to the event for the first time in six years. The LIV golfer, who captains Fireballs GC, was recently scheduled to play in the Amgen Irish Open but withdrew late after not receiving a captain’s pick from Luke Donald for Team Europe at Bethpage Black.
Patrick Reed – LIV Golf
Fellow LIV golfer and 4Aces GC member Patrick Reed is making only his second appearance, coming off the back of a top-10 finish in last year’s edition. The American is currently 17th in the Race to Dubai Rankings, thanks to an 8th place in Ras Al Khaimah, 3rd at the Masters and a tie for 3rd at the recent BMW PGA Championship.
The 35-year-old has already secured his spot in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates in November.
