WOODBURY, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s golf team competed in the opening round of the St. Kate’s Fall Invite on Saturday. The Gusties stand in third place overall with a team score of +16, just five strokes behind current first-place team Carleton.
“Fun day today,” said head coach Scott Moe. “Players showed up with a great attitude and ready to battle. This is a golf course we had not seen before, so we talked about trying to keep it simple, hitting center of greens and not taking chances off the tee. We converted on some really good birdie opportunities.”
Riley Zebroski led the way for Gustavus on Saturday, shooting a -1 to place second overall out of the field of 73 golfers.
“Riley posting a 71, which ties for the second-best round in program history, was awesome,” said Moe. “Her game has been close lately, so it was nice to see it come together today.”
“Today was a great day at Eagle Valley,” said Zebroski. “It was very exciting to shoot my new PR. No one I’d rather celebrate with than this team.”
Emily Kolb and Lauren Hubbart both tied for 17th place overall at +5. Addison Longie followed at +7 to place 28th.
“Having four scores in the 70s was fantastic,” said Moe. “Emily had a huge round for us at 77, Lauren also had a great 77 and Addy battled hard today for her 79.”
Up next for the Gusties is day two of the St. Kate’s Fall Invite on Sunday, September 21.
“Now we switch courses to play Braemar tomorrow which is site of the conference championship in a couple weeks,” said Moe. “Looking forward to the battle in a great field.”
