Colombian golfer Sebastian Munoz clinched a historic victory at LIIV Golf Indianapolis, securing his first individual title and fifth team title since joining the circuit. But here’s where it gets controversial. His path to victory included setting a new record with a 59 stroke round on Friday despite two double bogeies. Mosa’s weekend started explosively at the club at Cadam Hills where he made history by posting the first 59 stroke round with double bogeies in golf history. This remarkable performance set the stage for a thrilling playoff against Spanish golfer John Rom on Sunday which Munoz ultimately won. The leaderboard was tight heading into the final day with Munoz who had been leading after Friday and Saturday starting tied with Dustin Johnson, the captain of the four aces team. Meanwhile, the leader of the Legion 13 a few groups ahead was also vying for a successful defense of his season championship. John Rum finished his round with a score of 60 strokes totaling 22 underpar. Munoz, however, was at 20 under par after the 16th hole with Dustin Johnson trailing at 18 under. With the tension mounting, Munoz headed to the practice field to keep his nerves in check while watching the final group on the Giant screen. To force a playoff, Munoz needed two birdies. On the par 51 17th hole, his second shot veered left, landing near the cart path and causing a delay as officials determined the drop zone. From there, Munoz executed a miraculous approach shot, drawing cheers from the crowd and securing the first of the two necessary birdies. The 18th T held mixed memories for Mos and his caddy, Jose Pepa. They had scored a birdie there on Friday, but a double bogey on Saturday. This time, Mos’s drive landed perfectly in the center of the fairway, followed by a precise approach to the green. A long putt later, the ball found the center of the hole, sealing the win as Rem watched intently. Munoz celebrated with a firm fist pump, a bright smile, and handshakes with Johnson and Thomas Peters before returning to the tea to await his new opponent. Reflecting on his victory, Munoz shared, “I’ve received a lot of support. I was quite hard on myself after that opening shot yesterday, but the support around me kept me going. My caddy reminded me last night that we were in a fantastic position and playing great golf. We believed in ourselves and that’s what we came to do today. The crowd was electrified watching two golfers known for their exceptional play face off for the win. Munoz and Rum both took advantage of the wide fairway with Munoz driving along the left edge and Rum opting for the right side. Minos’s approach landed at the back of the green with a gentle backspin, stopping about a meter and a half from the flag. The pressure then shifted to Rohm, whose strong backspin shot unfortunately hit the flag stick and rolled further away than intended. While Rahm’s putt fell short, Mosa’s birdie secured his victory. This win marks Mosa’s first individual title since the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2019 when he was still part of the PGA Tour. It adds to his impressive collection of titles including the club Colombia championship in 2016, cornfairy tour and the Abiierto Debukrama and Abiierto Dell Club Camper Medí in 2015.
