Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason golf team will stay close to home this weekend as they travel to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy The Goat Invitational, hosted at the Naval Academy Golf Course, Sept. 20–21.

The Naval Academy Golf Course is a par-71 championship venue designed by William Flynn and renovated by Andrew Green, known for its tree-lined fairways and demanding greens. The event annually attracts a strong regional field, providing the Patriots another early-season test.

“We are looking forward to continuing the positive momentum we made this week in Canada,” said head coach Gregory Pieczynski. “We competed against a super-elite field featuring six Big Ten, SEC, and ACC teams as well as multiple conference champions from last year. That was a huge opportunity for our program, and to beat two of those teams including a Big Ten team was great.”

“It’s a very short turnaround at Navy but fortunately it’s a local event. We displayed consistency with 14 of our 15 scores for the first tournament between 72 and 74; however, we lacked the great round in the 60s. If we can clean that up, we can meet our goal to finish top-5.”

Mason enters Navy following a steady performance at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational in Ontario, where the Patriots topped two Power Five programs. Sophomore David Fuhrer paced the team on the final day with an even-par 72 to finish +2 overall and inside the top 25. Senior Vaughn McMeans added a 73 to close at +5, while junior JJ Powell delivered a 74 to remain consistent in the middle of the lineup. Sophomore Uzair Mirza rounded out the Patriots’ scoring with a 76. This weekend, Mason welcomes in freshman Sivawong “Putter” Aukrawat, who will make his season debut in place of injured classmate Philipp Krone.

Competing Teams:

Binghamton, Bucknell, Colgate, Columbia, Connecticut, George Mason, Georgetown, George Washington, Harvard, Howard, Lafayette, Le Moyne, Loyola (Md.), Navy (host), Seton Hall, William & Mary.
