I Played the SAME Course in Real Life AND on a Simulator… Here’s What Happened!

Hi guys and welcome back to another video. Today I thought I would do something that I’ve always found quite interesting and I always hear a lot of people ask what is the difference between simulator golf and real golf. A lot of people are very much against simulator golf and probably back in the day I used to be. Um but now I get to work in a place here where we’ve got the sim. Uh it’s fantastic for practice and actually I think it is quite realistic. So, I thought I’d do the front nine holes at Remedy Oak, which is my home golf course, off the white TE’s, using my actual golf ball to try and reduce any variables. And um let’s see how I get along. So, I’m obviously going to be doing the front line in here, but I’m also going to overlay the front nine holes that I’ve already played um off of whites. So, let’s see what I score best on. simulator or real. Um, the best I can do in terms of the gimmies on here, we normally have them about four or five feet gimmies. The lowest I’ve managed to find is 2 feet, which generally on a round of golf, I would hope not to miss a two-footer. So, I’m hoping that this is the most realistic I can get it um without actually putting out everything. And putting is actually really difficult on here. Okay, we’re on to the first hole. 390 yard par4 slightly uphill. Pretty much does look exactly like um in real life. Um I normally aim at the fairway bunkers there on the left and hit a bit of a fade off of it. Uh this is very realistic cuz I haven’t hit any golf balls yet today, which is normally how I go out onto the golf course when I’m filming. So I’d say this is pretty much as real as I could get it. Let’s see if I can hit a good drive here. Little fade off the bunkers on the left. I’ve definitely missed it there quite a few times in real life. In fact, I was there the other day. Just started that a little bit too far right. But I do have a shot. And I actually, like I said, I had the shot the other day. I got one, two, four, playing five uphill. Is out the rough. Let’s see if I can hit this one close. Going with a pitching wedge. Oh, this could be good. Sit. Okay, got a good chance of birdie. That’s coming back nicely. Okay, guys. This is where I am going to struggle. I’m just going to aim it out left. Going to break quite a bit. Have no idea how hard to hit this. Not that hard. Oh my gosh. The two foot gimme is actually tiny. Okay. Right edge. Oh my gosh. This is the hardest bit. I’m literally having a meltdown on the first hole. Finally got it in the hole, guys. I mean, that could happen in real life, but it was just uh yeah, not very good at all. I’ll finish up my this hole here. In real life, I would probably take a 3-wood because it’s normally downwind. And actually, it doesn’t look as drastic right to left from here. But I am going to have to hit this over the corner here for it to be decent. So, I’m going to go with driver. Oh, that’s never going to draw when you hit out the hill. Okay, I got away with that. That was not a good golf shot. All right, guys. Well, I’ve got 236 yards downhill. Uh, I actually feel like in real life, this would be blocked out more. I feel like the green’s more round to the right. So, I think this is where this might be good for me in terms of simulator golf. I’m going to go with a hybrid and I’m going to aim it left and try and cut it around there. I mean, that’s come out pretty good. Just didn’t get the fade on it, but that’s where I was aiming. Funnily enough, I was in this bunker the other day, but I still don’t know how to play this. So, this is hard to judge on the sim as well compared to real life, but it might be a bit easier cuz it is a longer bunker shot. So, 56 yards. There is water long though. So, but it is a par five there. So, I got up and down for a birdie 56. Okay. Go. Oh, okay. I’ve completely misjudged that. Not good. Not good. All right. This is definitely a bit of a ropey start and I feel like this has been harder than real life. Definitely caught a bit off the left. Just got to get the speed right. Oh, it’s so hard to judge. Perfect line. Oh, tap it that. Oh dear. That is a double bogey on what what is a reachable par five. This is not going well, guys. And those of you that um think it’s a lot easier on the sim to play golf, I actually disagree overall because the padding and chipping I think is really really hard. Quick today. Just like that. Should be good. Now it’s in the rough, but it’s sort of where I wanted it. Going with a full wedge here. Oh, actually, is that the rough? No, I’m going to commit to a full wedge. That’s what I’d go with in real life. Be good. Kick up. Okay, I’ll take that birdie putt. Right, let’s try and get one back here, guys. Come on. 16 feet. A little bit uphill. God, that swings a lot. Okay, give me par. We’re taking gimme pars all day long on the sim. Right. When you start I stood over. I can feel it. Right. This one could be tricky. 213 minus playing 200. Okay, I’m going to hit a five iron. I am doing this slightly differently as well because I’m hitting this off the deck and I would actually normally tee this up. Oh, I pulled it. Did not hit that great, guys. Oh no, this is going to be ridiculously hard up and down. This is not where you want to miss it on the sim or real life. I actually think in real life it it’s definitely more off the left, but 27. This is just a little almost like a little mini flop. I think I’ve got to play this. Played that really nicely. Oh, that stopped so quickly. Felt like that would have run out a little bit more in real life, especially out the rough, but I’ll take it. It was a good shot. Come on. Right, I think I’ve got a bit better at this patting thing. Okay, on to the fifth par five. Good chance of birdie here. Obviously in real life, um the water is a bit more apparent. I don’t feel like you really get the fear as much of the water um on the sim. So, I’m going with the driver aiming. Yeah, just inside that tree line. Play my fade. Definitely not the best hit, but it’s perfectly placed to try and get on in two. I got 235 to the pin, but it’s only 209 to the front. I’m going to go with a hybrid, which is normally what I would probably hit around here. It’s come out very high and spinny as it normally does, but I’ve got an eagle putt, guys. Let me know down in the comments if you feel like this is quite realistic side by side. I would say for a simulator, it does feel quite realistic to um what it is in real life in terms of what it looks like. Game play is slightly different. Right, this is going to be really hard to judge. Almost 60 ft uphill, breaking left to right. If I can get it anywhere near a gimme. Oh, I feel like that’s way too short. Oh, it is. Damn it. So hard to judge. No. Sit. Three par. That’s not what you want. But it was a 60footer in the sim which is always tricky as mentioned. Great job. right. So 295 par4. This one is drivable from here normally. Um especially at the moment it’s pretty baked out. So we’ll see if that is the same on the sim. So just a standard driver. Got that movement left to right. Okay, that’s probably roughly where it would be in real life. 41 yards. So, I need to literally pitch this 35 I reckon, not 21. How have I what? It’s just so hard to judge. Right. I should have actually played that how I normally would, which was to try and run it up instead of hitting a 60. It’s fine, though. Right. Got to give this a bit of a whack. Little bit off the right. I’m actually pretty happy with that putt. No way does it stay there. Oh, that is a sloppy sloppy sloppy bogey. And I’m sure more times than not I would not be getting a bogey from there. the back. All right, guys. I’m going with what I would normally go for from here, which is a 3-wood. I can’t quite tear that up high enough, so I hope I don’t top this. But yeah, it’s just a 3-wood over the corner. It’s even got the driving range on there on the left. That’s cool. Yeah, let’s go with this one. You did a good one. I almost did top it. I mean, that’s absolutely fine. It’s actually in a good spot. Pin is right at the front, though. So, I think this uh Yeah, this should be good. Rough, I think. Stay there. Okay. Happy with that. Just a pitching wedge. Bump and run. Little bit left to right. Just get it running over this mound in front. Oh my god. I’ve almost chipped that in. Right. A little bit right to left for par. It’ll be a good par on this hole. Really good par. Oh, I’ve hit it too hard. serious man. So, this hole I would normally go for uh well, actually depends on the wind. It’s normally into wind. If it’s really gusting, I wouldn’t go for it. But generally, I’ll go for this. So, 270 to the pin. This is just a solid driver at the left bunker. Let it fade back. Oh, no. Such a bad swing. All right, guys. I am in deep in the Jamani. That was not a good shot. I think in real life this is well I don’t think this is 100% a lost golf ball but I’m going to try and somehow get this out. I’ve got 58 yards. I’m just going to hit a lob wedge. Hit it high and see if I can get it out there. Well, we’re still in Jamanji. Let’s go for that again. Okay, we’re putting for par. Actually, that’s quite close. Right, 18 ft uphill. Left to right. Oh, that’s so hard. Oh, it’s so hard. Okay, a little bit right to left. It’s for the bogey. There’s not a good nine holes. Double bogey. Bit down, it Uh I’m not ashamed to admit that I will be posting this still and I’m seven over through nine through eight with one hole still to go. Um I’m going to go with a seven iron here. Oh no, that was such a bad strike. Such a bad strike. Okay, bunker shot. Try and judge this 20 yards. Well, it had some raz on it right for the par and to finish nine holes on seven over par. Get in there. Good effort. Oh, that was not good. That was not good. Good shot. How does that not break right? Well, there we have it, guys. As you can see, uh I very much struggled on the simulator golf there. Um I have made it as pretty much as difficult as I can uh sort of get it with the two foot gimmies, but I definitely feel that real golf compared to that um is much easier. Um, I got away with a couple of shots, but just the short game and the putting is hard. Let me know down in the comments if you’d like to see me do 18 holes versus 18 holes, or if you would like to see me actually play how we would normally play in the simulator versus how I play on the golf course. Um, that might be a fairer comparison. Um, but I hope you guys have enjoyed this video. I hope it’s given you a bit of an insight into the comparison between simulator golf and real golf. 1. I'm the opposite. I'm a 12 hcp player in real courses but I play scratch on simulators. Not having to worry about losing your ball as well as always having a perfect lie really helps.
