The ladies European tour this week in the idyllic setting on the east coast of Spain for Lasa Open at Lasa Golf and Resort for the third year running. Last year on her le debut as a pro, Helen Bream shot 666 over the weekend to win the title. Not so easy for her for the opening round in some windy conditions in the afternoon. She moved to two overpar did the defending champion. Fairing better was Allesandre Finale, the Italian with five birdies that took her to the mark of one under. You can see at one stage she was three under, but there were so many occasions where players tripped up on the back nine. Not so Emma Spitz who had eagle 12. Then look at this at 13. The Austrian who hasn’t missed the cut since last year’s Lassaya Open posting a round of one under par. Out in the morning was the number one player on the Ladies European tour, Mimi Rhodess. And this was a birdie at her penultimate hole, the eighth on her way to a round of 70. two under par as she goes looking for a fourth win of the season. Pier Babnik went best of the players in the afternoon. Hardly a par on the call on the card for the Slovenian and that one of seven birdies as she moved to four under par despite the tougher afternoon conditions. Shannon Tan starts the week second on the rankings and that was a good par save at eight on her way to a three underpar round of 69. Plenty of Spaniards in the field 13 in total. Best of them is the player from Morca, Luna Sabbron, finishing with a birdie for a round of 68. The only harm has had a fantastic season at the end of last year. She thought she was going to quit the game, but she’s come back in style and she posted a round of 66 as she goes looking for her first ladies European tour title. Six underpar for the German. Six underpar as well for Nastasia Nadau. This her eagle attempt down the hill at her closing hole, the par 59th. beautifully judged by the 20-year-old French woman and she would tap that in for a round of 66. But best of the lot was Anna Huang. What a performance from the 16-year-old Canadian rookie. This at the 10th, setting her up for one of eight birdies in her first 13 holes on her way to a round of 64. And she leads by two shots after day one at Laa.
