However, Matthias’s wife was never to see him compete at the 2008 Beijing summer games, because she passed away in a tragic car accident the year before the competition. Steiner almost quit the sport completely, but say to himself that giving up will not change anything. And also on his final attempt to win gold, he gave everything he got, lifting 22 kg more than his personal record. The German’s emotional outburst sparks that Olympic victory.
