The Ryder Cup quartet will seek to outgun local hero Shubhankar Sharma at Delhi Golf Club from October 16-19.

The event boasts the largest prize fund for a DP World Tour event in India.

Major winner Lowry, who lifted the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush in 2019, will make his third consecutive Ryder Cup appearance next week, as Team Europe aim to defend the trophy they won in Rome two years ago.

The Delhi event could also represent Lowry’s last chance to make the top 70 in the Race to Dubai who qualify for the first DP World Tour Playoffs event, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Lowry is currently ranked 151st in the Race to Dubai and running out of time to rack up points.

However, he said at the Amgen Irish Open he wouldn’t be “chasing” a spot in the Playoffs, which conclude with the top 50 contesting the DP World Tour Championship.

“It’s amazing how many Race to Dubai points you miss out on when you don’t have a couple of good majors,” he said at The K Club.

“I normally throw at least the top 20 in or a top 10, and suddenly jump up the Race to Dubai. But when you don’t do that, it’s amazing how far down you are.

“But yeah, I’m not going to go chasing it. I don’t have that in me. I’ve got a few good weeks left in me this year, and then it’ll be down tools for a while.”

On his first trip to India since he tied for 59th in the 2010 Avantha Masters, he said: “Having the opportunity to play in front of golf fans all over the world is one of the best parts of my job, so I’m really looking forward to going back to Delhi for the first edition of the DP World India Championship.”

The DP World India Championship, co-sanctioned with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), marks a new chapter for professional golf in India.

It follows the success of the 2025 Hero Indian Open and positions India as a premier destination for world golf.

McIlroy, who committed to the event in May, is keen to play more golf worldwide.

“I’m excited to not only tee it up in India for the first time but also visit a country that I’ve always wanted to explore,” the Holywood star said.

“I’m proud to play in the inaugural DP World India Championship.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing a global schedule, and as I have previously said, there is tremendous potential to grow golf further in the country.

“This is a great opportunity, and I can’t wait to play in front of Indian golf fans.”

McIlroy confirmed today he will return to Emirates Golf Club to headline the field in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic from January 22–25 next year.
