BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Saint John’s University sophomore Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) was named the MIAC Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Grahek (GRAH-heck) earned the first medalist honor of his career – out of 120 golfers – to lead SJU to a third-place finish out of 22 teams Sept. 14-15 at Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational. He started the tournament with a 2-under par 69 Sunday and went -2 in his final 11 holes to finish with a 1-over par 72 Monday for a two-round total of 141 (-1). For the tournament, Grahek was -4 on the par-5 holes, +1 on the par-4’s and tied for second with seven birdies.

He has a 73.4 scoring average through five rounds so far this fall.

The Johnnies return home to host their annual fall invitational this Saturday (St. Cloud C.C. in St. Cloud) and Sunday (Blackberry Ridge G.C. in Sartell), Sept. 20-21.
