Welsh Hollywood star Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to swap the red carpet for the fairways after being confirmed for this year’s Ryder Cup All-Stars match.
The Swansea-born actress will line up for Team Europe in the celebrity curtain-raiser to the main event in New York later this month. Zeta-Jones, who has been a passionate golfer for years and often plays alongside husband Michael Douglas, admitted her love for the sport began while filming in Australia early in her career.
“I was shooting a movie in Australia early in my career and was on hold for a very long time,” she previously told Golf Chic..
“Surrounding me was golf course after golf course, so to pass the time I bought myself a set of clubs and started hitting balls as soon as the sun came up.
“Our handicaps… I play off 22, Michael is lower than me. But I have never had a hole in one.
“I played most of my golf on the island of Bermuda. (I currently use) XXIO golf clubs, my favourite is my hybrid.”

The 55-year-old, who will be proudly representing Europe, joked that Ryder Cup week always brings extra tension at home: “I’ll be supporting Europe and my husband will be supporting the USA. It certainly heightens the stakes at our house.”
Zeta-Jones will be joined in Team Europe’s line-up by Brooklyn Beckham, Harry Potter actors Tom Felton and Oliver Phelps, NBA legend Pau Gasol, former Chicago Bulls star Toni Kucoc, Spanish chef José Andrés and Finnish ice hockey great Teemu Selanne.
Their opponents in Team USA include tennis legend John McEnroe, former NFL stars Eli Manning and Michael Strahan, country music stars Miranda Lambert and Kane Brown, celebrity chef Bobby Flay, comedian Colin Jost and singer Noah Kahan.
The All-Stars match will take place on Wednesday, September 24, at the iconic Bethpage Black course, two days before the Ryder Cup itself begins. The event will see celebs compete in pairs over a series of holes, with bragging rights on the line ahead of the real Transatlantic battle.
Luke Donald’s Europe will then attempt to defend the title they won in 2023, with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose leading the charge. Team USA, captained by Keegan Bradley, feature world number one Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau.
But with Zeta-Jones flying the Welsh flag in the celebrity opener, Team Europe fans will be hoping she can give them the perfect start.
