Is this new release the right **golf equipment reviews** for you? Check out the video to see if the **wedge review** is up to par with other Cleveland Golf releases!
Cleveland have just released a new wedge [Music] and it is the CB. So, it’s the CB, the cavity back. It’s got more cavity than the RTZ. And there we have it, the new CBZ. Now, I do really like these wedges for certain golfers. Personally, I don’t need forgiveness in a wedge. So, I’m going to point myself round the other way, and I’m going to hit some shots left-handed cuz I need forgiveness when I’m doing that. I’ve also got in the same loft an RTZ 54° and from 100 yards out because I’ve kind of worked out that I hit 54s roughly 100 yards. So, this is the not as forgiving RTZ and I’m not striking it very well. I’ve had a few shots that have gone in funny directions in funny strikes. I’ve got a few thin shots and I’ve got quite a few drop kick toy ones as well like that. So, I’ve hit the ground a bit early, slaps it off the toe, I kind of get away with it. So, I might need some help and I want to see how helpful the CBZ actually is. And the reason I like things like the CBZ as opposed to a set wedge, so the sand wedge that comes with your irons, is that we have got a proper set of grooves on here. In between the grooves, there’s extra milling as opposed to it being a little bit smoother. So that ball can still grip the club face. And they’ve also got the hydrazip element to them. So they do maintain a lot of spin when they’re wet. Whereas the sand wedge that comes with your set probably doesn’t. And with the sort of golfer that’s looking at the CB wedge, you might be a little bit less informed. I’ve hit that off the toe absolutely horribly, but it’s maintained a lot of its distance. Cool. So, in my right-handed set of golf clubs, I have four wedges in addition to my pitching wedge. So, I go really deep into it because I really want my wedges to give me almost the performance of a mini set of irons. I want the yardages to continue from my pitching wedge in a routine fashion. And I get those yardages quite a lot. Sometimes if you go down to your pitching wedge and you’ve only got a sand wedge, you don’t have as much choice, but you probably don’t need as much choice. No offense. And when you’re looking at a set of wedges or a new wedge, just a singular one, I would encourage you to Google your irons. So it might be Callaway Rogue irons and then look at Callaway Rogue specs or Callaway Rogue lofts and then go images on Google and then you can see what the loft is of your pitching wedge. It might be that you have like I don’t know a 41 degree pitching wedge and then you have like two wedges below that or you have a 44 degree pitching wedge and you have one wedge below that. As time goes on, as you progress, you will start appreciating the need or the desire for more wedges, and you might go, “Okay, I’m going to get a 52 and a 58 instead of just a 56 on its own to give you a bit more versatility, to give you a bit more choice.” And if you think of like a kids package set, different kettle of fish, but you’ve got like a wood, a hybrid, an iron, and a wedge, you’ve got four different distances to create. And that’s what a kid needs. They just need they need a bit more space just to create different shots. They don’t need 14 clubs absolutely nailed in straight away. They just want to get the basics done and then as time goes on, as they improve, as you get better at the game, you start filling the gaps. You start getting an extra hybrid. You start getting an extra few irons. You start getting extra wedges. So, it might be that you get one of these just to fill one gap. It might be that you get last year’s CBX4 because they’re a lower cost, but they might not have every loft available by the time you look at this video. but they’re also a very decent wedge. And I do want to get both of these wedges toe to toe to see what the difference is at the minute. I’m just seeing how easy this is compared to a more bladed wedge. And to be fair, those grooves are getting cover off the golf ball, which is delightful. Even though I’m slapping it everywhere, we’re still getting a lot of spin. I’m going to go one more with this because this is super super easy. Apart from that thin one. Spoke too soon, didn’t I? Stay in the shots. I want to make noise through the golf ball. If I make noise through the golf ball and drop kick it, I still get on the green convincingly. This is actually quite fun doing it this way round. Yeah. Nice. Okay. I’m quite enjoying myself there with the CBZ in a context where I need a bit of help left-handed. I’m quite enjoying this new sole design. There’s kind of like that flat bit there and then there’s some relief there and relief there. So, as you bring this through at different intervals at different angles, you’ve always got something on the bottom helping you. With this cavity being bigger and wider, we’ve got more surface area to slide on the floor. We’ve got more surface area to stop it from digging in and getting stuck. So, these are also quite good for the golfer that chops down into the floor a little bit more because you’ve got a bit more resistance to getting into that grass. Absolutely. Slap that off the tote. Not a problem. I’ve got a putter in my hand on the next shot. Cool. I’m just going to go back to the RTZ. I’m going to get a few shots with this. It doesn’t have as much meat on it. There’s not as much mass in the head. Well, there might be as much mass, but there’s not as much size to the head. I’ve got less surface area on the sole here. And what seems like a slightly smaller head altogether. Now, the CBZ, I hit a shot that felt like that that didn’t go as bad. I could try and fix my swing or I could just use a club that’s easier. Now, what I often find is that someone that’s using the CBX or the CBZ, the slightly bigger cavity wedges, is that I kind of want them to progress and I want them to grow out of them eventually, but as it is, use all the help you can get and don’t compromise the quality of the club face. Drop kick that’s done all right to be fair on the green. And that’s all I’m asking for at the minute. So, yeah, like I say, you could get one just to fill a big gap. You could get two to kind of like spread that gap down. You could get a full set of them with four degree gaps perfectly. If you use your wedges more often, if you get your T-shots inside a certain yardage, you might need a bit more choice to give you different yardages. If you don’t have that shot as often, prioritize the other areas of your golf bag. Oh, it’s definitely not as easy. So, why try harder when you can literally use one of them? and Callaway make a similar wedge as well. They’ve got something with a slightly bigger cavity. Um I don’t think Vokey do. Yeah. Like get in the hole. Ah, a little bit of backspin. Look at that. And just looking at the bird’s eye view here, there’s definitely a difference. The white ones are the CBZ. If you need help, take it. So, I’ve got one shot there that went 140 cuz I thinned it in the CBZ. That is down to me. I’ve got one shot there in the RTZ that went too far as well for the same reason. Uh, so I’m only taking one shot out of each. Two groupings there. That is really interesting. So, I’ve got a slightly tighter circle and I’ve got a slightly bigger circle and this one is further up in the CBZ. I have got more spin on the RTZ. That’s why the RTZ is attractive because you get that little bit more spin and control into the greens. However, the variance in yardage for me there was 4 yards. The variance in yardage here was 3 yards. I’ve just got a much tighter, easier dispersion ring on the CBZ. And I wouldn’t say that difference in distance is because of like anything like in terms of like the power off the middle of the club face. I would say it’s the quality of my ball striking. I just maintained more of that speed, more of that distance with a bigger cavity in the CBZ. When I went to the RTZ, I didn’t get as much help. I lost a lot more. So, my average is much lower. Little bit of spin as well. So, tiny bit more spin just kind of like makes the ball stop a bit quicker. But, we’re not talking a massive loss in spin at all. It was like 400 revs. So, make your life easier if you need to. Uh, if you’re getting a bit more precise in this game, then you want more wedges and you want something more like the RTZ, but that’s down to each golfer. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Mate you hit your left handed wedges better than I hit my right handed ones 🤣
Good stuff. I play the Callaway Mack Daddy CB's (KBS Hi-Rev G80 shafts). I need all the help I can get with my wedges and they do that.. Currently putting a set of 1st Gen Cleveland CBX's (Project X Catalyst 80 shafts) together with a view to doing a comparison.
Lefty swing looks good.
Dude. I've known you a very long time. I did not know you could swing it left handed like that! 😂 Fair play.
Hi Freddie, first off thank you for all the thorough testing and instruction videos you have shared on your channel. It’s helped my game and I’m sure many others! Had an idea for a video request, if you could compare the 4 iron ZXi4 vs the ZXiU? Curious to see how the numbers, forgiveness, and consistency compare to each other. Thank you and keep up the great work, you’re one of the best golf YouTubers out there! Cheers! 🍻
Wedges worst clubs in my bag, so just bought 54, 58 cbz’s…..let’s try! I play ping i240 irons well, so not a total hacker, just wedge issues 🤣
I got the RTZ 56 AFF, it is my favorite wedge and used the most around the greens.
However it is horrible in bunkers. Im thinking of getting a CBZ 58 degree for bunkers as bunkers are the worst part of my game. I definitely dont want the ping Bunkr. What are your thoughts?
