Donald Trump skipped out on the vigil for Charlie Kirk on Sunday at the Kennedy Center, opting instead to spend his time at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, according to multiple reports.

Trump is still planning to attend Kirk’s official memorial on Sept. 21, but the fact that he didn’t attend Sunday’s event, which reportedly saw multiple high-ranking Republicans turn out, had folks on social media tearing into the president.

“Trump skipped Charlie Kirk’s vigil so he could play golf,” Howie Dewitt wrote on X. “Yep you read that right, the man whose family claims Charlie was like a son to them, couldn’t even be (expletive) going to the vigil because golf is more important.”

“Donald Trump SKIPPED the Kennedy Center’s vigil for Charlie Kirk,” The RaiderDiana account on X responded to actor James Woods. “Instead, he went to enjoy a weekend away at his golf club in New Jersey. Every MAGA member should see this.”

There were plenty more comments like that — and many far less kind — over on Elon Musk’s platform.

People Magazine reported that the vigil for Kirk was held at 6 p.m. at the Kennedy Cetner on Sunday.

The outlet said that House Speaker Mike Johnson, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt attended.

The president attended the “Hope Through Education” gala on Saturday in New Jersey, per People. The outlet said it is “unclear” whether he actually golfed at Bedminster during the stop.
