off to a terrific start. Here’s a birdie putt at the fourth. He hit it to tap in distance at three. And here at four, wedged it past a hole. Big breaker to the right, but poured it right in the middle. So, a great start. Now, let’s stay with Scotty. Fast forward to the eighth. Another birdie putt. Had a wedge shot in here just outside 11 ft. And that also went right in the middle. That moved him to 10 under par. And then his second and nine from the rough. And the rough can be challenging here this week. The rough is challenging. These guys always have a shot, but it comes out hot and firm greens. But how about this control? He knew exactly where he had to land it for it to release like that. Up there close. Another birdie. Another birdie. Moved into 11 under part. He was starting to sniff the lead and his birdie putt at the 10th to move to 12 under. Drove it pretty close to the green. Had to play out to the left a little bit and he starts making these mid-range putts. The rest of these guys are in trouble. [Applause] You got to keep it down the right center of the fairway today. That flag’s all the way over on the left. [Music] Oh, this is flawless execution. Almost looked like sort of a chip cut freewood down there. That was really pretty. Needs big spin. He’s trying to tumble down there. Yeah, there’s a lot of slope behind that hole location and he knew it. It’s coming. It just keeps trickling, doesn’t it? He’s putting everybody on notice. Scotty has seven birdies today. He’s within two of the lead. USA. What a round he is putting together. Still two par fives to play as well coming in. Probably got to play out to the left. Came out fat. And that’s not going to get any easier. Kurt, that will be a tough pitch from that angle. And he is landing on a down slope, Kurt. If he lands it short, that face wide open. Whoa. You don’t see that often. Wait, you think so? All of that work to get within three of the lead and now Scotty’s going to give away at least one here. Oh, he barely breathed on it. Get in. Can you believe it? That will drop him back to 11 under par. Five shots behind Ben Griffin’s lead. Up at 15 with Scotty Sheffler. He has got to be awfully upset with himself right now. And now he’s got to calm down cuz he does have two par fives on the way in. And this is really looking good start to this par five here. That is not an easy driving hole. You got to take it because it’s a sharp dog leg right to left. You got to take it down the edge of those trees just like he did right there. Get up. Make the two up. I thought he was going to make that double up right away. He thought so, too. Here’s the reaction. He thought he made it. Yeah. [Applause] To get to 12200 par. He’s one of the best on tour, if not the best in that bounceback stat. A well played hole after that double bogey. But the left hole location, he should be okay. So you got a lot more fairway to work with here today. Oh, this is a dead pole, guys, into the oak trees left. He’s hit that shot. That’s the third time I’ve seen him hit that shot this week. Twice with the driver and now with the 3-wood. One’s got to play it out towards the middle of the green. Par is a great score from here. [Music] Boy, this is aggressive. My goodness. Oh, how good is that shot? How good is that? That’s ridiculous. Yeah, he had to turn that over what, 20 yards. What a three. This would be unreal. A tricky tricky putt for read. Tricky speed putt. Oh boy, that looked good for a long time. Potentially roll it up there. I don’t think you can stop it up there if you fly it. Just a little shelf and it is tough to get it on top of there and keep it. all over it. The hole in there. Oh, that is such a good shot. And he’s coming back. What a T- shot from Sheffller, who’s trying to battle his way, it looks like, anyway, into that final group on Sunday, which would be a huge thing for not only Scotty, but presumably Ben Griffin. That’s not how they made the RDER Cup team. They are highly competitive. This guy wants to win this week. Never ever discount the competitiveness and the grind and grit of a player like Scotty Sheffler. He never just shows up. 297 in that bunker on the right. My mom is single. Oh, this starts on a fabulous line. Oh yeah, right center. He gets a kick off the back side of that bunker for a little extra run out. This holds 581 yds. trying to work back to the right. Miss Green, he just carried it. He got a nice break there. That nice. Kept it out of the primary cut. [Music] Good speed. Just ran out there at the end. Good luck putt though. So if he makes that, he’ll be the first to post 14 under. Remember Tommy Fleetwood in Memphis saying with a smile on his face, a little bit easier to play tomorrow, meaning Sunday with Justin Rose and not Scotty Shuffler. And then the following week at Caves Valley, Scotty got himself into that final group with Robert McIntyre and he ended up winning. So it’s kind of a big 45 60 minutes upcoming here. Scotty Shuffler 64 for you today. Scotty, you’ve your scoring has improved every single day. What’s been the key to maybe knocking off the rust after the break, after the tour championship, and getting back into the swing of things? Yeah, I mean, I I felt pretty prepared going into the week. I didn’t have as good of a first couple days as I would have hoped to. Um, but yeah, like you said, improving as the as the days go on, and today was definitely a pretty nice day. It’s a pretty nice day. A little bit volatile on the back nine. Had some interesting things happen there on 14. Walk us through that hole. You’re going to make me walk through my one bad hole today. Is that Well, you you recovered from it nicely and sandwiched it with the birdie, but still it’s nice to see how the number one player in the world backs off from something like that. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, 14 just got on the wrong side of that hole. It’s it’s a tricky little hole and then like you said, did a good job bouncing back. Uh, you know, I thought I’d hold that that bunker shot on 15 for uh for Eagle, but settled for birdie and made made two nice birdies on 1718 to close. Uh, this is your first time playing this golf course. You’ve had to take some time to really get to know the course. Teddy has had to take some time to get to know it. What are the nuances that you’ve learned through three days of play that you’ll bring into the final round? Yeah, I mean there’s definitely some some tricks to this golf course. Um, you know, it definitely changes as the day goes on. This is a a golf course that changes significantly from the morning to the afternoon and, you know, I played two rounds in the afternoon now and got one more tomorrow and so we have a pretty good idea of what to expect tomorrow. Lots of great moments today, Scotty. Thanks for taking the time. Thanks. Appreciate it. Thanks for watching the PJ tour. To watch more, click here. To subscribe, click here.
