Garrick Higgo opened with back-to-back birdies and never looked back—signing for a 6-under 66 powered by a hot putter and a smart, steady game plan. He admitted to a couple frustrating stretches when the ball-striking cooled, but freeing himself up on approach (thanks to confidence with the flatstick) kept the round humming.

Higgo also revealed he’s been building momentum after a hip labrum tear in April—five weeks off, no surgery, and now trending the right way. With firm fairways, thick rough, and bumpy late-day poa, he stressed the premium on hitting it straight and staying patient. As for Sunday? “I think I’m close enough. I’m going to give my all.”

Eric, good start with a couple of birdies to out of the blocks and then under 66. How would you describe that round today? Yeah, it was great. Um, I’d say it was a pretty good fight. Um, I hit hit it pretty well for most of the day. Um, you know, just just stayed in it. Um, obviously had a few frustrating moments, but um, you know, it was a good day. Looked like you puted pretty well. Is that not the specialty today? I’d say so. Um yeah, I mean my potting has been is for sure carried me most events of my life, you know. Um so it uh it’s nice when it when I do putt well because I feel like I have less less pressure going into the green. So it kind of frees me up. What’s your definition of frustrating? What do you mean? What what frustrated out there? Just just a bad hole, bad score, or was it Yeah, I felt like towards the end I wasn’t hitting it as good as I did in the beginning. So, um, that was the only little bit of frustration. Yeah. What What do you um What’s your kind of objective for this last portion of the year? You’ve already won this year. Yeah. So, I mean, it’d be nice to win again. Always. Yeah. Five more times would be good. I mean, yeah. As much as possible, but I I I don’t really have like a I mean, it’d be nice to get as high up on the FedEx as we can. Um, but I just want to keep building on what I did this year. Um, I tore my labum in and my hip in April, so I took five weeks off in the middle after the PGA. I took five weeks off. So, I’m just trying to get some momentum back um from that. Was that wear and tear or did you do something? I think so. I I tore it happened the uh corn ferry week uh in Savannah. So, before Pentagon um I was just doing a simple stretch and I felt a pretty big pop um and it was wasn’t great. You ever think about stop stop stretching? It wasn’t even that big of a stretch. Like it was just one of these, you know, like literally. Um Wonderful. Yeah. So, it’s fine now. I’ve avoided surgery. So, do you I think we’ll see what Ben does on 18, but but are are you close enough? What are you looking forward to tomorrow? I think so. I mean, I I think I’m close enough. Um this course, you know, the greens get a little bumpy. Like, they weren’t great the last couple holes um in the afternoon. Yeah, it’s it’s a good test. It’s like you still have to hit it. You have to hit it straight off the tea. So, um I mean I’m I’m going to give it my all. So, have you played with Scotty before? I I’ve played with him in a I played with him in a practice round at Northern Trust like five years ago. So, just before he before he was who he is now, I guess he’s still the same guy. How did that happen? Just just just happened. Just Yeah. I mean, just got to the tea at the same time. Okay. Yeah. Was he five years ago? Was he professional then or was that still when he was on Hammer? Scotty. Yeah. No, he was. He He was It was uh 2021, so four years ago. Yeah. The last year they had it at Liberty National. My first year. So like my fifth event. Sixth event. Yeah. Thanks, Gonkey.
