HASTINGS, Minn. – Led by a top-six finish from sophomore Anneliese Carlson, the St. Olaf College women’s golf team took ninth of 18 teams at the D3 Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Emerald Greens Golf Course.
Carlson tied for sixth in the field of 97 with a 36-hole total of 152 (+8) to lead the way for St. Olaf, which shot its two low rounds as a team this season on the weekend. The Oles were tied for seventh after a 326 (+38) on Saturday before improving by three strokes on Sunday with a 323 (+35).
Carlson put together her two lowest rounds of the season with scores of 77 (+5) and 75 (+3), with the three-over 75 on Sunday matching her career-low round. The sophomore was tied for first in the field in par-three scoring for the weekend (3.10, +1) and carded three of her four birdies in the tournament on Sunday.
Junior Ella Wright posted St. Olaf’s second-best score of the weekend with a 165 (+21) after compiling rounds of 85 (+13) and 80 (+8). The second-round 80 was one off Wright’s career-low round. Classmate Marit Lyle was three shots behind Wright with a total of 168 (+24), followed by senior Belle Mae Williams (170, +26) and first year Annika Searles (171, +27). Williams’ opening-round 82 (+10) was the lowest round of her career to date.
St. Olaf will compete at the St. Kate’s Invite on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21 at Braemar Golf Course in Edina and Eagle Valley Golf Course in Woodbury. The tournament will be the team’s final event before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships on Oct. 4-6.
