Wheeling, W. Va. – The 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Men’s Golf schedule rolls on as the Wheeling University Men’s Golf team makes their second straight trip to Charleston, West Virginia. The Cardinals will compete at the Stonewall Invitational, running Monday, September 15th and 16th at the Stonewall Resort. The Cardinals are looking to bounce back  after taking 14th at last week’s Golden Eagle Invitational as they continue down the stretch towards the MEC Men’s Golf Championships.

Last time out, the Cardinals competed at the Golden Eagle Invitational, where they competed against nine other MEC teams.   The first day saw the Cardinals play two rounds in one day for the first time this season and they got off to a slow start in round one. They would sit 14th after the first 18 holes, shooting a 307, but a big bounce back in the second round helped them climb the ladder. Wheeling would drop 21 strokes off their first-round score to shoot a 286 for the round. They finished fourth among varsity teams in the round, but would finish with a 306 in the final round to finish off the event. The effort brought the team’s average round score 296.2 for the season, with three of those five rounds seeing them shoot sub 200 as a team.

Leading the way for the Cardinals at the event was Graduate Student Sean Dobson, who finished in a tie for seventh at the event. He was tied for the third highest MEC golfer during the event, finishing just four strokes behind Point Park’s Milo Thim for the top spot. His best round came in the second 18 holes of competition, where Dobson shot –3 to propel himself up the individual scoring list. He would finish tied for fifth in that second round of competition and built off that momentum the rest of the way. He would finish out his round on day two shooting an even par to finish with a season-best three day score of 211. Dobson is one of two graduate students on the team and is looking to lead the young Cardinals through the season.

While not factoring into the team score, it was a strong showing for Lodin Femoen, who competed as an individual at the event. He would start things strong, shooting a career-best 71 through the first 18 holes and remained in the mid 70’s throughout the event. Femoen put together a three-day score of 222 for the event and looks to move up into the team scoring this time around. Rounding out the team portion of the event for the team was Elias Ekenes-Fosback, who finished with a three-day score of 230. Ekenes-Fosback is coming off a strong showing at the Wheeling Invitational to start the season, and shot a season-low 73 in the second round of competition to crack the top 70 of the event.

Monday’s tournament is the final MEC regular season event for the Cardinals as they will match-up with their conference competition one last time. The final two events of the regular season will come in Atlantic Regional play with the team heading to CAL-U and Pitt-Johnstown to end the regular season. Their final conference event of the fall takes them to the Stonewall Resort where they will try and improve their three-round score in their second three-round event. They will play the first two rounds on Monday and follow that up with the third round on Tuesday.

Day one of the Stonewall Invitational is scheduled for Monday, September 15th, with tee times beginning at around 9 AM.
