They’ll be throwing something other than sliders and fastballs around Pensacola Blue Wahoos Stadium come November. They’re be throwing plastic, and the plastic won’t be sliding. It will hyzering and anhyzering.
If you don’t know that those are disc golf terms, then you’re just part of the crowd that organizers of the crowd organizers hope to attract to the 2025 Downtown Disc Golf Experience at Blue Wahoos Stadium sponsored by Discraft and presented by Flight Factory. The event takes place Nov. 22-23 at the downtown stadium, home to Pensacola’s minor league baseball team the Blue Wahoos.
The first day of the event, a Saturday, will feature newcomers and casual players alike, and maybe a ringer or two, playing through the nine basket course that will be set up inside the stadium. On the second day of the event, there will be a flex start tournament, though open play will still be available for the casual player and newcomer.
Weekend passes entitling users to use the course throughout the event are $33.85 for adults and $23.18 for people 17 and younger. There are also less expensive single-round tickets available for both days, allowing users to play the course once. Children under 6 are admitted free. VIP packages are also available. There is a separate fee for the PDGA sanctioned flex start tournament. This isn’t the first disc golf event at Blue Wahoos Stadium. In 2020, two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson of Santa Rosa County hosted casual play, along with the franchise, on a nine-hole course at the stadium.
Mike Osley, one of the event organizers, said the event will feature some pros, including Pensacola’s Eric Oakley and Paige Pierce, and most likely other professionals to be added later. There will be vendors selling disc golf equipment and plenty of learning experiences for beginners and the curious as well as specialty events such as distance competitions.
“We’re hoping to appeal to someone who has heard about disc golf and might just want to check it out,” said Osley, retail manager of Flight Factory, a disc golf store on Tippin Avenue. “We’re going to have different activities and want to raise the profile of disc golf in Pensacola.”
