HASTINGS, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s golf team competed in the first day of the D3 Classic on Saturday. The Gusties stand in third place out of the field of 18 teams after the team shot +21 in the opening round.

“Good start today,” said Gustavus head coach Scott More. “I felt all nine of our players today did a really nice job of being ready to compete from the start. We had a couple stretches that we need to clean up a little bit before tomorrow. Super happy for Lauren as she fires her personal best in tournament play at 72 today. She started with three birdies on the first four holes and had great composer throughout the day. We still need to make sure we do a good job of limiting any bad holes or bad stretches. We were not too familiar with the golf course, hopefully a couple of those spots we will clean up tomorrow. Looking for a great finish to our home tournament.”

Lauren Hubbart led the Gusties on day one, shooting for par with a round of 72, placing her third overall out of the field of 97 golfers.

“I am really proud of how everyone on the team played today,” said Hubbart. “Everyone seemed really comfortable out on the course. This was my best tournament round so that felt nice to achieve. Looking forward to finishing out the tournament tomorrow morning.”

Layla Mathews had the second-best score for the Gusties on Saturday, shooting a 78 (+6) to place 17th overall. Addison Longie placed 22nd on day one with a round of 79 (+7). Riley Zebroski followed at 27th overall with an 80 (+8) for the last counted Gustavus score of the first round.

Up next for the Gusties is day two of the D3 Classic on Sunday, September 14.
