We hit several shots with both the Legato and Titleist Pro V1 golf balls on the ProTee VX launch monitor and closely compare the stats. Does paying double the money for Pro V1’s really make a difference?

We’re back in the Get Up studio. I’m Andy. This is Philip. Today we’re doing budget versus premium golf balls. Again, we’ve done this before, but today we’re going to focus on the Gateau versus Titalist Prob. Let’s check it out. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] So, here’s what we’re going to do today. Like I’ve said, we’ve done this kind of video in the past, the budget versus premium golf ball, but we we kind of failed in some areas. And so, we listened to some of your comments on the last video, and we’re we’re trying to trying to listen to what you had to say and do better. Today, we’re going to focus on three main things. We’re going to focus on obviously the spin numbers of each golf ball, legato versus prob, but we’re also going to focus on the distance, especially with the driver. And we’re also going to focus on dispersion. We’re really going to hit hard on dispersion and see how they compare. And what we’re going to do is I’m going to hit like 15 to 27 irons with each golf ball. Philip’s going to hit about 15 to 20 drivers with each golf ball. And then we’re going to go back to the lab software, look at the spin numbers, look at the distance, look at the dispersion, and compare the two. and just see how they compare. Price-wise, Titus Proby ones, you all know they’re about 60 bucks a dozen. I can’t believe I’m saying that. I remember when they used to be about 45 a dozen. Uh the Legato golf balls are about 27 or 28 bucks on Amazon for a dozen. So, the price comparison is pretty big difference. But performance-wise, let’s see how they do. All right, guys. So, dad’s about to start hitting with the Legato golf ball. It’s kind of hard to see on here. Um this is more of a budget ball. Has good reviews. Dad is getting it off Amazon. Got it off of Amazon. A dozen of them. I think it was like 27 bucks and some change for a dozen of them. Yep. So, good price. Yeah. Let’s see how they do. Yeah. I’m curious to see how they perform. I’ve got it set up on the ProTVX Lab software uh for a seven iron. I’m going to hit about I think I’ll hit 20 shots. I think that’s a good number to get the numbers that we’re looking for. We did warm up, by the way, just so you know. I think it’s fair when you’re doing a golf ball test like this to make sure you’re warmed up before you start hitting. So you’re not basically hitting the first golf ball all cold and not stretched out. Sure. You might still shank it, but Well, yeah. I’m not saying I’m not going to hit bad shots cuz that’s a that’s a given. Yep. The other thing we’re going to be talking about, too, is the durability, guys, based on those 20 shots each. Okay, that’s my first shot with the Legato. I’d say my average, these are my new uh Tacoma 2011’s. My average carry with the sevens is probably going to be in like the 165 to 170 range with these striping them. Those Tacomaomas are nice. If you guys haven’t seen that video yet, go check out our Tacoma 2011 review. Uh more of a first impression unboxing video, but we’ll have a more in-depth review on those later down the road. That was a good one. Nice. Spin numbers seem more forgiving. Like I usually we usually hit the Tailor Made TV5 pix. Yeah. And I feel like I get too much spin with those with the irons. Sure. Where they the dispersion gets way off because the spin, right? So far after seven shots, I’m not even off the toe, I’m not getting as much spin. So that’s good for me. Yeah. Oh, that wasn’t good. We go. So just for reference guys, we are using the Legato 3085s LX LTX I should say. They claim that they break through the air. What do you think about the way they look, Dev, when you’re looking at them down like from from down sight? I like them. The logo is definitely a little more prominent than other golf balls. It’s bigger. Um I like the line on the side of it, too. The way it’s set up for putting and things like that, aligning your putts, it’s kind of cool. Yeah. But for um simulator golf, the ProTVX and other camera based launch monitors, the logo can play a big factor in that on how it picks up the spin and things like that. So, it’s nice having the bigger logo that that the camera can pick up. Yeah, it’s a lot more bold on there. See if I can square one up. That was a bad one. I’m trying to get the logo facing up on purpose just to get the most accurate numbers that we can. With the ProTVX, you don’t have to have logos on it. It’ll still pick it up, but it’s more accurate when it has something like a logo. Like we said, beautiful. Three left. Okay. Beautiful. Feel like that was off the toe, but it still went pretty straight. Was it ready? It was off the toe a lot uh more than the center of the face. But that’s that’s really interesting cuz the sid spin on that normally be like a thousand. Yeah. With those tailormaids. That’s That’s interesting. I like that. Okay, that’s 20 shots with my seven iron. Philip’s going to tee it up and hit 20 with the driver with the legato. All right, we’re going to go over to the lab software and kind of look at the spin numbers on this and the dispersion. Um, obviously I didn’t hit all those shots great because I’m just an average Joe. But you can see here, we’ll average these out for you so you can see what the average distance is. Again, we’re not focusing mainly on distance, but it does play a big factor into it. And then we’re going to look at the dispersion numbers, how far off line we were. If I go over to here to the swing tab, it shows us our dispersion right here. Okay, all those yellow dots where my seven irons I just hit just now. The white line is the center line of the fairway. So, we’ll figure out all these numbers here after Philip pitch his driver and see what they average out to dispersion and spin and distance. Yeah. So, we’ll go from there. Before I start hitting my driver, wanted to show you guys the head cover that I use on my driver. Jesus is King number one. This is my driver head cover from Gospel Golf. If you are unfamiliar with what Gospel Golf is, click the link down below. Use code get up for 15% off your order. They have t They have polos, hats, putter head covers, everything you can think of. Towels. Check it out. Towels. They’ve got it all, folks. I’ve got you all set up for driver. You’re good to go. Sweet. So far, it looks pretty good. You only hit 20 shots with it, but there’s no like major scuff marks or anything on the ball. Looks really good. Good shot. Good way to kick it off. Still carrying fade or whatever. Usually probably average 275, 2 to 85 somewhere in there. If I If I catch it right in the center of the face, swinging hard, I’ll go 300. But yeah, there’s no need for that. Popped it up. Higher launch angle. Oh, that was solid. Yeah. Yeah, it was pretty good. Off the heel a little bit. But what’s really interesting so far is I’m looking at your spin numbers. Your side spin was only minus 156. So that’s why that ball just went like straight. Yeah. Um backspin wasn’t bad. It was a little high, but really curious of what the spin numbers would look like all combined. Total average. There you go. That was a good one. Yep. It sounds so much better already. Oh, that’s right. That’s the money shot right there. That’s like a 270 carry. Nice. Oh, that’s perfect. It’s a little high on the face. I love that though. I mean, that little baby cut. Oh, it’s way left. That one there, folks, is gone. But this is okay because in real life, you’re gonna have those, right? Yeah. You’re gonna have that. So, oh, and I just tried to kill it. So, we’re not robots. No, we’re humans. Average golfers. Mhm. That was a big slicer. Yeah. But still, what I’ve noticed with when I was hitting the seven iron and now you’re hit with the driver is the spin numbers are more forgiving with the legato so far. Yeah. Like you hit that straight off the heel. Yep. Like dead off the heel. And your sid spin was only 735. Still went 256 down the middle right on a bad shot. Yeah. So I feel like it’s more forgiving than some other golf balls with the spin. Yeah, that was off the toe. Still not bad though, right? You know what I’m saying? 265. It’s dead off the toe. High and off the toe. Like literally off the toe. Still went 293. Your sid spin was 343. That’s pretty cool. Back spin was 1988. Yeah, it feels good. I love that so far about this golf ball. That was bombed but left. If I snap my driver, guys during this video, I will open up a donation link where you can donate to my charity. Yeah. And when he means snap it, he doesn’t mean like this. He means because he shanked it so bad. Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. There you go. Take this moment to talk to the camera. Sometimes as amateur, average, everyday recreational golfers, we expect too much perfection out of ourselves. Don’t do that. Oh yeah. See that right there? Yes. Every time. [Music] All right, let’s take a look at some of Philip’s numbers here real quick. You can see the dispersion orange circle. Um, I don’t know what happened there. That doesn’t seem right. Where did that one come from? Oh, yeah. Right there. Yeah. Um, if you’re wondering guys what this little dot here is, um, that was a popup like straight up in the air. Like I thought he was going to break the the ProTVX, but most of them not bad. You had several really good ones here close to the center line. These over here, not so much. But hey, that’s what we’re working on. So, what we’re going to do is we’re going to figure out the average distance, average spin, average dispersion, and then we’re going to hit the Titus golf balls, and we’re going to compare the two, see how it looks. All right, guys. So, we’re going to start hitting the Prov1 Titus Pro one golf ball. Dad’s going to hit his seven iron again. About 20 shots. Let’s get going on it. Let’s do it. A golf ball that needs no introduction. Starting off hot with a nice shot. And I got to say, guys, I I really haven’t played with the Titalist Proby ones hardly at all since I’ve been playing golf. So, I don’t have a lot of familiarity with them. I don’t know if we said this, but Philip and I are both hitting the same golf ball. So, we’re kind of looking at the wear and tear on the golf ball, too. Yeah. You are hitting it further, I think, with this golf ball, though. Yeah, I am. So, I will say that’s my 10th shot. Right away with the Titalist, I can tell a difference obviously in the distance. I’m getting a lot more carry with it. And also the spin numbers are pretty forgiving for me. I have a tendency to hit it off the toe a lot, but um it’s a high quality golf ball. What else can you say? I striped that one. That was a good one. If only I could do that every time. What do you think right now, Ed? It’s a good golf ball. I mean, there’s just no denying it. I’m questioning in my mind, though. Is it a big enough difference for me to justify buying these knowing I’m going to lose a bunch of them? I don’t know yet. But it’s a great golf ball. I mean, it goes without saying. You’re just striping them with this ball. Three more. There we go. Striped. A good one to end on. Yep. All right. I’m going to hit some driver with this thing. See how much better or worse the Titus Prov1 is for me. Going to use the same same ball that dad just used for those 20 shots. So far, obviously, we know the Titus Prov1 is a very premium golf ball. premium golf ball that’s going to last a while for a reason. I mean I mean if a pro is going to use it for his entire round, not lose one, it’s got to last for a whole round. Yeah, there’s no doubt about it. The Titalist Prob are just premium high quality golf balls for a reason. Try to hit some drives that stay in bounds for a change. Wow. Uh let me set this up for the driver. Yeah. Yeah, do that. Set it up. I’ll set it up while you shut up. All right, let’s see what you got here, Mr. Titalist. Oh, straight left. Wow. Yeah, I know it’s your first shot, but I’m going to say no on the title list for you. It just doesn’t work. Oh, yeah. That’s nice. That felt good off the face. 303 total. Uh backspin, 1900 and almost zero sid spin. 64. Pretty nice little uh little drive there. All right, that’s your second one. That was my best drive of the day. Was a good one. It’s going be like 280 carry. Got to be. Oh, I was way off. Felt so good. Still went out. Rolled out to 288. That’s good. I like that one. I over corrected it. But yeah, but I like that. That’s dead down the middle. That’s a good one far. So, you’ve hit 10 shots. How you feeling so far about the Titus Pro one? I’m feeling good about it. Have you hit them a lot lat recently or in your No. Um, but it does feel comparable to my Kirk Hunt ball. Yeah. Like this is a little bit more home for me. Um, they are so comparable. But yeah, I would say I feel really good about how it feels off the face. I’m just not really feeling my swing today as all all the push. Not about distance right now. It’s about the spin. And really dispersion is a big thing with the driver. This video is going to make it look like we just got up here and smacked him as soon as we could, but we’ve been taking our time here, guys. Been about an hour here just hitting our shots and we would hit more but it just takes too long to do it, guys. That’s I like that. Yeah. As Philip setting up for his next shot, we had some people comment and say, “Hey, you should hit like 100 shots with the legato, 100 shots with the prob.” We would do that, but we would be here all day. And guys, this is something that we do on the side. We both have full-time jobs and families and so we come in the studio do these videos. We have limited time. We’d love to put the time in it to do that, but it’s just takes too much time and the editing on that would be insanity. Yeah. Um on average, it takes us about 3, four hours to edit a video and probably two hours to film one. You got a whole day and just shooting a video like this. Yeah. And if you’re trying to spend time with your family in the evening, it’s just Yeah. If we did this full time, obviously we’d be able to put more time into it, but I don’t I don’t even know what to say there, dude. I absolutely clobbered that thing. Beautiful. Trying to be easy with it. Give us uh four more of those. [Music] I almost broke my driver on that one. All right, that’s 20. Well, folks, that was probably some of the worst driving I’ve ever done. So, out of curiosity real quick, before we even look at the numbers, I’m going to say that I was not hitting tidalist as good far as um straighter straight or not. Sure. Sure. Sure. Sure. But I want to say that the distance and stuff was a lot better on it. So, you think your distance numbers are better, but your dispersion was not as good? Yeah. And that obviously comes down to swing a lot, but also could be that maybe the spin numbers, too. Who knows? Yeah. Let’s check it out. Okay, so we’re done hitting. Philip hit 20. I hit 20 with both balls, the gate and titles probably won. I hit 27 irons. He hit 20 drivers with each golf ball. We’re going to go over to the lab software and take a look at the numbers. So, quickly, we’re going to take a look. One of the cool things with the lab software is has this dispersion window. And so, the yellow and the red shots, those are both my seven irons. Yellow is the legato, red is the Tylus. And obviously right off the bat, you can tell that the titleless dispersion numbers are quite a bit better. Most of them are closer to the center line and had some that went way out here. I was opening the face a lot because I was kind of fidgeting with my golf swing, but still dispersion looks way better with the Titalist uh golf ball. And then for the drivers that Philip hit, the orange circle, ignore these down here. Those were some mis hits, so don’t don’t pay attention to those. The orange dots in the circle is the legato golf ball. The blue circle in the dots is the Titalist Prob. And so you’ll notice here most of all of the orange ones and the blue ones are all in the blue circle. So dispersion really wasn’t much of a difference, Philip. You thought it was going to be a bigger difference. You said with the Titus golf ball. Yeah, I felt like the Tylus is a little bit more dispersed, which I think they are. I mean, the orange is right here. You hit a lot. So the orange for the legato probably might have been a little better on this version, I think. So the spin numbers were a little bit better on the legato for you for with the driver than the titalist. Um and then distance Philip said he felt like he hit the titalist farther, but the numbers don’t show that. There’s they’re showing about the same, which is really interesting. Y So we’re going to figure out the average numbers here. Over here on the side, it shows the all the spin numbers like for my seven iron. We’re going to figure out the average and then we’re going to figure out the average dispersion offline for each golf ball and we’ll come back and tell you what those numbers come out to be. Okay, so Philip and I went through all the numbers on the lab software. The cool thing about the lab software is it literally records all of your shots, all the stats that you need. And so we went through and figured up all the averages. Okay, we figured up the average carry. We figured up the average total spin. We figured up the um average dispersion, how far offline the ball went. So, I’m going to go through those numbers with you. We’re going to throw it up on the screen so you can see it as well. So, let’s start off with the legato 7 iron. I hit 20 shots with the 7iron. My average carry was 167. My average dispersion offline, how far offline it went, was 16 yards. Yesesh, don’t like that. Um, average total spin was 5963. Okay, so that’s legato numbers. Again, we’ll have it up on the screen for you to see that. Now, let’s compare the legato 7 iron numbers to the Titus 7 iron numbers. The total uh average carry distance with the 7ironir on the Titalist Prob was 170, so three yards further. Um, the total average offline dispersion was 11 yards, so five yards better than the Legato. And then the average spin with the Titalist was 5,759. So a couple hundred less RPMs than the Legato. So the numbers for the seven iron and for me I hit 20 shots with each ball would say that the Titalist is is better. Um, I just have to ask myself as a average recreational golfer, is it that much better to spend the extra money? We’re talking double the price, right? And that’s a question that you guys have to ask yourself. I can’t answer that for you, obviously. So, ask yourself, do these numbers make sense? And everybody’s going to show different numbers depending on your golf swing and the way you connect with the ball and things like that. So, keep that in mind. But for me, I don’t know if it’s worth it spending the extra money. That’s where I’m at with it right now. I have to kind of think about it more and hit some more shots. Okay, the next thing we’re going to look at is the driver. Philip hit 20 shots with each ball. Legato first and then the titalist. We’re going to look at these numbers. It’s really interesting because, well, you’ll see as we read them off. Um, with the legato driver, the average carry for Philip was 260. Okay, 260 yards carry. The average total distance after it rolled out was 288. So 260 carry, 288 total roll out. His average dispersion offline was 30 yards. So Phil needs to work on something there, buddy. He’s running the camera. I’m looking at him. 30 yards offline average with the legato. His average spin was pretty good. It was a total of 2466. That’s pretty good number uh for the spin. And then with the driver, we also wanted to include his um average ball speed. And so with the legato, his average ball speed came out at 160 miles per hour. Okay, so that’s the legato. With the titleist driver, the average carry for Philip was 259. So one yard less than the legato average carry. And then his total distance was 287. One yard less than legato as well. I think it was 288. So the numbers are like pretty much spot-on with the distance for Philip between the Titalist and the legato. And then his average offline dispersion was 31 yards. He was 30 with the legato, 31 with the Titalist. Again, almost dead on the same. Um, his total average spin was 2,47 with the with the Titalist. With the Legato, it was 2466. So again, almost dead on the same these numbers are. And then his average speed was at 160, which was basically the same as Legato. He was at 160 average speed. So for Phillip with the driver again, we only hit 20 shots with each club, right? We know we could hit 100, 200. We don’t have the time to do that. If we did, we would. But for Philillip, 20 shots with each ball, the numbers are exactly the same. And that’s one of the cool things about the ProTVX is to be able to come in here and actually look at the stats and see how they compare. So for Philip, as far as his driver goes, it makes no sense for him to spend extra money on the TLES golf balls versus legato. It just doesn’t make any sense for the driver. It could be different with irons. The spin might vary for for Philip with irons and he might be like, I need to find a golf ball that’s a good medium between the driver and the irons that works for him. But based on what we saw here, I would say me personally, and Philip, you correct me if I’m wrong. I love the Titus golf ball. When you’re hitting it, it just feels good. It does. But the numbers for me don’t make sense to be like I’m definitely going with titalist again. And it’s I’m just picking it because it’s titleless at that point. And this is a nonbiased review. We’re going off the numbers that the ProTVX is showing us. So, it’s nonbiased. We can’t deny the numbers. And for me, I don’t know if it’s worth spending the extra money on it. Philip, what do you think? Like Dad said, it’s not like a biased review because we had never even hit Legato before this review. We’ve hardly even hit titles prov not on the ProTBX. Yeah. For me, honestly, I would have to hit some probes with my irons to see how I feel with them. Yeah, I agree. And obviously things like short game is a big part of what you pick a ball for as well. But I think in general for average golfers like us, it wouldn’t make that big a difference for us to really go and spend double the money on it. Not saying that Titleless Pro one isn’t worth the money because for some people it may be. If you’re playing tournaments, if you’re a really good golfer, man, the Pro one might be the right ball for you. For the Legato, for guys like us, I mean, I’m going to go with the Legato. I agree. And again, it depends on your caliber of how good of a golfer are you. Basically, the better you are, the more I could see why you would want to play the higher quality premium golf balls. And that’s fine. So, I know some of you are watching and you’re like die hard fans of a certain brand. Stick to it. If it works for you, stick to it. We’re not saying don’t get Titleless golf balls, don’t get tailormaids. They’re great golf balls. What we’re trying to figure out is are these lesserknown golf ball brands good brands for average everyday recreational golfers like us, you know, and for us so far the numbers show that they work fine, right? And why spend the extra money? If you got the money to spend, spend it. But Yep. I’m not going to. Yeah. For me personally, I use the Kirkland Costco golf ball. It works great. I love it around the green. Love it off the off the tea. Yep. It’s a good golf ball. But for me, I’m not going to go spend $60 on a set of golf balls I’m going to lose. And I would say the overwhelming majority of golfers out there today, recreational golfers, are just like us. Yep. We’re not great. We enjoy the game. We’re trying to get better as we go. But we don’t have the budget to go to go out and buy a $60 box of golf balls and only lose, you know, lose them in two rounds, right? That’s the thing with it. It’s a dozen golf balls for 60. I can get 24 golf balls for like $35 from Costco Costco. So, for me, I’m like, that’s a no-brainer, you know? Now, if you don’t have a problem hitting it out of bounds like Philip and I, then go for it. But we we hit a lot of golf balls out of bounds, so the dollar signs start racking up pretty fast. But that’s our take on it. Yep. Appreciate you watching. Hey, leave a comment. Even if you think we’re wrong, tell us. We’re we’re open to your opinion on it for sure. I’ I’d say keep the comments from getting nasty, but you know, give us your true honest opinion on what you feel as far as the premium golf balls versus the not so premium. Yep. All right, I think that’s all we got. Um, stay tuned, guys. We have a lot more content coming out here in the next few weeks. The one thing we’re going to be doing here in the near future is hopefully soon starting up a video cast/podcast where we talk golf. We talk new videos coming out, we talk reviews, technology, things like that. Just sitting down and shooting the breeze about golf and kind of our passion. So stay tuned for that guys. Would like to see this test against maxfli tour. Great job
CORRECTION: We said incorrect prices for the golf balls. It’s currently actually $55 for a dozen Titleist Pro V1’s and $30 for a dozen of the Legato LTX 3085 on Amazon.
Good test. Hard to justify the extra cash…. I hit the pond and ditch at least once a round. 😅
