The 42nd Victoria Open Golf Tournament begins next week and many golfers do not have a place to stay while competing.
The tournament takes place at the Uplands Golf Club in Oak Bay from Sept. 14 to 21 and features professional up-and-coming golfers playing on a world-class circuit.
However, tournament director Brad Norris-Jones says a lot of the golfers cannot find a place to stay.
“The struggle right now is to find host families for the professional golfers coming to town,” Norris-Jones said.
This is the first time a large amount of golfers have been unable to find a place to stay, organizers say.
“It is challenging. We’re hoping the community can come out, support and take some of these athletes in,” he added.
Norris-Jones says the best way to offer housing is to send a message to their website.
Although housing has been a problem, the tournament has received a lot of volunteers.
“We’ve had the strongest number of volunteers in many years with over 275,” Norris-Jones said.
After the tournament ends, the top 120 players from the PGA TOUR Americas series will compete in Surrey at the Fortinet Cup Championship.
“Cheer for our Canadian kids … and come and support these unbelievable athletes,” said Norris-Jones.
