Golf Course for Sale in Bangkok?! 🇹🇭 Thanont Golf View & Sport Club

58 courses in Bangkok. I’m going to play them all through scorches and monster rain. Not giving up until I’m done. [Applause] Hello and welcome back to Farang Golf and to the 36th episode of me playing all the golf courses here in Bangkok. And it’s back to reality for me after the amazing luxury golf course Thai Country Club review. Today we are playing Tanon Golf Club on the northeastern side of Bangkok and it’s a budget golf course looking for a new owner. The course was opened 1995 and it’s designed by Bob McFarland. I tried to dig up some information regarding this course and it’s relatively difficult to find anything. But maybe you can help out in the comments if you know the history of this course. My best guess is that this course has something to do with Pomelo. I think they have had the same owner since both courses were designed by Bob McFarland. The clubouses look a little bit similar and few of the green flags had Christa city text on them here at the tunn. I’m pretty sure that Pomelo Golf Course used to be called Christa something earlier and my guy told me also that this course is for sale if somebody wants to purchase it. But one thing that is unfortunately true is that this course is lacking some love and care. Arriving at the golf course really early in the morning, I headed to the locker rooms first. And the lady running the locker rooms was really concentrated on watching this tight drama series on her phone. So, I didn’t want to bother her. I managed to get myself a key to the lockers without exchanging any words with her. The locker rooms were, as you would expect, not in great condition. The locker rooms were eerie and straight from a horror movie, especially early in the morning when I was there all by myself. But to be honest, they had some amenities. They had some paintings on the walls and some decorative flowers on the tables and the showers were clean and tidy. So the grandma watching the drama series in the entrance of the locker room is actually working sometimes. I don’t know how to really describe the clubhouse. It was beautiful in its own way and I can see if it was 30 years ago it would have been maybe unique but still beautiful. I was going to go and check out the pro shop for you and maybe purchase some secondhand balls for the round but the pro shop was closed. I could though see through the windows that all the items inside looked like they were relatively new. So I’m pretty sure that the pro shop is open sometimes. And as it turned out that after the round when I returned to the clubhouse, the pro shop was open. So yeah, they do operate. It was just closed early in the morning. So instead of going to the pro shop, I paid my green fee to this window next to the pro shop. And for the first time ever in Thailand, I encountered issues with payments. You couldn’t use credit card or QR payment. And I didn’t have any cash on me. And the closest ATM was far away. So, I was standing there a few minutes staring at the lady operating the hole in the wall and expecting her to come up with some type of solution for the payment, but she was just staring back at me. So, we were staring at each other for a couple minutes until I walked away to my caddy and explained her the situation and she drove me away to the area where the caddy spent time and there was this lovely gentleman who I transferred money to and he gave me cash so I could pay my green fees. Since it was early morning, I needed some caffeine to kickstart my brain. And I was a little bit hungry as well. So, I decided to go and check out the restaurant. But when I arrived there, they didn’t have any milk. And I guess they had some instant coffee there. So, I skipped that and purchased a Coke Zero. And unfortunately, I wasn’t brave enough to check out if they do indeed serve some food at the restaurant or not. And since there was no driving range at the premises, it was pretty much time to head downstairs and meet my caddy and start the round. It’s not easy to find places in Thailand where you get underwhelming or bland service. But that was the case at the clubhouse. And I feel a little bit saddened about it. Not because of me, but because of the staffs. It looks like the owner has given up with the course and that is clearly affecting all the staffs and their mood. You can probably guess that I wasn’t expecting too much when I started my round and it was good to lower the expectations to be able to enjoy my day here at the tunn. The course plays 7,85 yards from the tips and that makes it relatively average in length I would say. I played the white TE’s which were 6,385 yards. The round starts off with a super long par4. It’s 470 yd from the tips and plays 430 yards even from the white te. So, it’s a long par4 and challenging start for the round. And I have to admit that the course was in better condition than I was anticipating. I was positively surprised to see that the fairways were quite decent even though it had been raining lately a lot. The roughs were cut evenly, but they were cut quite a long time ago. And for that reason, the grass was quite high. And if you wanted to get your ball out of the rough, you really needed to brute force yourself through the rough to get the ball in the air. The greens were relatively okay. I would have to say they were a little bit mushy and soft and that made them slow, but on the other hand, it was nice change to play a little bit softer greens for once, but I did have issues with the general conditions of the course. Unfortunately, I got a headache and I couldn’t really concentrate on the game since I was constantly bouncing in the cart. The cart bats were more like a I’d say collection of potholes and it didn’t really help that the caddy was driving everywhere with the cart in the roughs on the fairways next to the greens and tea boxes and it was same all over the course. It was really bumpy ride and really frustrating to sit 4 hours like that. What about the prices then? I paid 1,350 bot for creamy caddy and carton. The price is decent in my opinion, but you have to take in consideration that you could play a round of golf call for cheaper, little bit closer to the downtown and on a course with actually decent facilities and maintenance. And to my understanding, they don’t have dual pricing. So the price is always the same no matter where you come from. Overall, I have to say that it’s not the worst price to value ratio you can find in Bangkok. When it comes to foreigner friendliness, it’s a nice thing that they don’t have dual prize sim, but I don’t think you’ll manage here with English language. Or maybe you do since none of the staffs are really into speaking. Anyways, what about the caddies then? As for many budget golf courses, the course is filled with this cute grandma type. So, if you come here, that’s what you get. I pre-ooked my caddy, Miss Jasmine, and I was really pleased with her. Maybe only one negative thing is that she was driving all over with the cart. I think if I asked, she would have driven onto the greens as well. I think they have relatively loose rules here at the moment for where you can go with the cart. It’s obviously nice if you are not able to walk too much if the carts can go so close to the greens, but I didn’t really enjoy it since the ride was pumpy throughout the day. But other than that, I have no complaints. She was a great caddy and expert on the course and she really helped me play better than I would have done without her. So huge thanks Jasmine if you’re watching this. Then it’s time to wrap up the review and give Tunnel Golf Club a score. Unfortunately, you won’t be finding it high on the list of golf courses I played so far. And that is because of the modest course conditions. The clubhouse is horrendous and the staffs unfortunately seem like they given up on life while working here. Why would you come here when you have cheaper, better quality options closer to the downtown? I can only recommend this course if all the nearby courses are fully booked and this is the only course where you can come and play. I’m really sad to see a greatl lookinging course be in such a shape and I really hope that this course finds a new owner as soon as possible so it can retain its old glory. And so did Miss Chasmine, my caddy. She asked if I could purchase the golf course. It’s a nice thought, but I don’t have the funds. But just tells that they also hope that somebody will come and take over the course. In the next episode, we’re going to be returning to the west side of Bangkok as we go and check out the Rose Garden Golf Course. The Westside courses have been offering some insane value lately. So, I’m thrilled to go and check out how the Rose Garden can cope against the tough competition. So, you better subscribe to the channel not to miss that one or any of the upcoming episodes. And leave a like to Tan Golf Club, not because it necessarily deserves it, but because it really needs it. Comment below your thoughts on tunn golf club and especially if you have played here earlier when the course has been in better condition. Thanks for watching and see you in the next

  1. Thanks again for a great review. Surprising that they have caddies wanting to work there. Bet they don't have that many customers…… As for the course selling price, no idea, but a guess would be one Billion Baht maybe.

  2. Kudos to you for paying to play such a badly kept course. I’ve played many courses in Thailand, but never one in this state of disrepair – a smart move not dining there! Very informative and definitely not on my bucket list! Thanks again for another great videos 🙏🏻

  3. I went there last month. I arrived early in the morning and felt it was like a scene from a horror movie as well.

  4. McFarland once worked for Gary Player. Seems he’s been all over doing onsite supervision. Started with Hawtree in England.
