Galgorm Castle is developing the courts amid a boom in demand for the ever-popular racket sport.
“We’re excited to announce the anticipated opening of our brand-new padel courts at Galgorm Castle,” it said.
It says the “latest addition to our [racket] sports offering… these two courts offer a dynamic new way to enjoy one of the world’s fastest-growing sports”.
“Padel is considered a hybrid of tennis and squash and is typically enjoyed in doubles, on an enclosed court.
“Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the game, our courts provide the perfect setting for friendly matches, social events, or competitive play.
“With easy booking options and a convenient location in the heart of our historic estate, Galgorm Castle is now your go-to destination for padel in Northern Ireland.”
The plans would see the courts being developed on the grounds of Galgorm Castle Golf Club, located outside Ballymena.
The golf club is now owned by the overall Galgorm Collection group, which owns and operates the Galgorm Resort & Spa.
It’s the latest company to invest in the growing sport of padel.
Padel is a racket sport played on a small, enclosed court that looks similar to a cut-down tennis court.
Several new padel courts have already opened here in the last year, with firms submitting plans for new locations.
Elsewhere, a lifestyle magazine could be turned into a major new padel club in Belfast as part of a £1.5m investment.
Feat4 is planning its first padel club in Northern Ireland, and says it has the intention “to expand to other locations” here.
It’s eyeing up the site of the former Ulster Tatler headquarters on the Boucher Road for its first major club. The Ulster Tatler has since moved elsewhere to new offices.
The plans could see the current office building razed to make way for a facility, which will include five courts, a gym, pro shop, and café.
“This application is brought forward to offer a new leisure opportunity to Boucher Road on a site which was formerly occupied by Ulster Tatler for more than 40 years,” plans say.
“The demolition of the existing office building and the erection of a purpose built padel facility which comprises [five] padel courts and ancillary uses to include a café, reception, pro shop, changing facilities and recovery studio/gym.”
