Olympian Hannah Green will lead the Australian challenge at the US Women’s Open 2024 golf tournament at the Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania, USA which starts on Thursday.
Six Australian golfers, including Green and former champion Minjee Lee, will tee off in Pennsylvania. The tournament will be broadcast and live streamed in Australia.
Hannah Green, who finished fifth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has been in fine form this year. The world No. 5 golfer won the LA Championship in April, shared 18th at the Founders Cup and followed it up with a runners-up finish at the Mizuho Americas Open, which was eventually won by Olympic champion Nelly Korda of the USA.
Green, a five-time winner on the LPGA Tour, has never missed the cut at the US Women’s Open and she recorded her best finish of T13 last year.
World No. 9 Minjee Lee, who won the US Women’s Open in 2022 after besting American golfer Mina Harigae by four shots, is also in the fray. It was her eighth LPGA Tour win.
Lee, who also represented Australia at Tokyo 2020 alongside Green, has been inconsistent so far this season. She finished T21 at the Mizuho Americas Open and T7 at the Founders Cup earlier this month.
Australia’s Stephanie Kyriacou and Keeley Marx will be making their US Women’s Open debuts this year. World No. 87 Kyriacou has two professional wins in her golfing career while Keeley, ranked 1360th, is still searching for her first.
The 38-year-old Sarah Kemp will be playing her seventh US Women’s Open this time around while Gabriela Ruffels will be playing the tournament for the fourth time despite being only 24. Ruffels finished T13 in 2020 which remains her best finish at the US Women’s Open.
The elite field at Pennsylvania will also include world No. 1 Nelly Korda of USA, defending US Women’s Open champion Allisen Corpuz, 20-time LPGA winner Lydia Ko of New Zealand, world No. 3 Celine Boutier of France and world No. 4 Ruoning Yin of the People’s Republic of China.
